How Long Have You Had Your Hairbrush?

I was reading an article the other day, recommending we change our hairbrushes every SIX MONTHS.  This seemed a bit extreme to me, but I do agree its important to keep our brushes in tip-top condition lest we risk them damaging our hair.

You see, built up debris of styling products and damp hair can lead to bacteria growth, and melted bristles from heat styling can actually snag the hair as we brush.  At the bare minimum we should be removing excess hair from our brushes after every use.  For the Gold Star of Care, we should be washing our brushes weekly.  Using baking soda and vinegar is an easy way to remove product build up and scalp flakes, helping to keep our brushes in better condition for longer.

We're putting the latest hair brush release from Mita to the test.  The last three Mita detangling brushes are all Top Rated by you, the people of New Zealand, so we're super excited to get our hands on this colourful beauty!

The Mita™ GEMTIP Detangling Brush is a unique 3D Flexi-Control Brush with multi-nylon bristles & gem tips.

Each bristle is physically formed into a smooth round sphere, like a delicate gem, free of sharp edges. The Mita GEMTIP detangling brush is super flexible with long & short thin bristles to remove tangles effortlessly and painlessly, reducing hair breakage.

The two-length bristles work perfectly to detangle and massage the hair whilst massaging the scalp and gently cleaning away dandruff and dirt from the scalp.

As well as for use on dry hair, the GEMPTIP shines when used in the shower.  It helps to spread shampoo and conditioner evenly along the hair and helps rinse them away more quickly without snagging or pulling on wet hair.

If you fancy a spot on this trial team, get chatting below about all things hair brush.  How long have you had your current brush?  Do you look after it well or is it a bit neglated?  Why would you like to review the Mita GEMTIPS Detangling Brush for us?

I am always looking for an amazing brush! I have really long hair and brush my hair a lot. Any brush I buy seems to only last 6mths anyway! Currently using a Mae brush which is not amazing but not too terrible. Would love to try this brush please!

Ummmmm I actually can't remember how long I've had my hairbrush haha! Ewwww it's a bit grody too so could definitely do with an upgrade. It's one of those items for me that I just don't think about replacing often. This brush sounds amazing and I would use it on my 7 year old daughter who has long hair and it is such a mission washing her hair!! This would be wonderful to trial! <3 :)

I've had my brush for at least 5 years and I really need to replace it...

I have had my hair brush for years. And I would say it's been neglected. I would love to try this brush. My hair is shoulder length and is prone to a few tangles especially after a nights sleep. Been able to use this in the shower would be fantastic. My daughter has long hair and this would be great to try on her hair as well.

My hairbrush is about 10 years old - ooops! Obviously I clean it often

Eek Mines at least 2 years old... I would love to try this brush as I need a new one obviously! My thick hair does get dreads if not brushed well so would love to see if this helps. I do clean my brush in tea tree and lemon with hot water...but thats it!

I always thought using a brush in the shower was a no-go as it leads to breakages. I’d be interested to see how this goes on my fine hair.

I have really long thick curly hair. Ive never found a brush i liked that didn't feel like it was ripping my hair out. Ive used a detangling brush before but felt like the bristles weren't really long/strong enough to get through my hair. I would LOVE to try this and see if i finally found one that would work for me!

I treated myself to a really good brush after I had my daughter.... three and a half years ago! Ooops!!

At the moment I am using the head of my old hair brush because the handle broke.....

I have long hair. Like at least mid thigh length long wavy hair. It's always hard to wash because it tangles so easily in the shower so I tend to procrastinate about washing it as it takes ages. I try and use my normal Tangle Teezer To Go but it often feels like I'm stretching my hair and I end up accidentally pulling some of my hair out each time even if I'm gentle. I do always remove excess hair from my brush everyday and I wash my brush about every two weeks. I've never actually thought about a brush needing to be changed unless it was broken. The Mita brush seems like a great solution to properly get shampoo and conditioner through my hair with it's long bristles and reduce the chance of pulling out my hair in the shower. I'd love to give it a go.

I have never had used detangling brush. I am looking to try one. I have the same brush for 7 years, I only brush my hair after a shower and then let it go.

I have a detangling brush which I love. I've had it for a couple of years tho ....

I hate using a brush as I’ve only ever experienced pain and ripping hair out with one. I’ve had a brush for over 10 years but I hardly use it because it’s quite rough on my taur. I’d love to be proven wrong about brushes and try one that is gentle on hair tangles and one that’s hairdresser approved.

I had no idea you were meant to change your brush. Im not sure how long I have had mine, but ages. At least 5 years. I wash it when it looks like it needs it but maybe it's time to try something new. Would love to give this a go
