How Long Have You Had Your Hairbrush?

I was reading an article the other day, recommending we change our hairbrushes every SIX MONTHS.  This seemed a bit extreme to me, but I do agree its important to keep our brushes in tip-top condition lest we risk them damaging our hair.

You see, built up debris of styling products and damp hair can lead to bacteria growth, and melted bristles from heat styling can actually snag the hair as we brush.  At the bare minimum we should be removing excess hair from our brushes after every use.  For the Gold Star of Care, we should be washing our brushes weekly.  Using baking soda and vinegar is an easy way to remove product build up and scalp flakes, helping to keep our brushes in better condition for longer.

We're putting the latest hair brush release from Mita to the test.  The last three Mita detangling brushes are all Top Rated by you, the people of New Zealand, so we're super excited to get our hands on this colourful beauty!

The Mita™ GEMTIP Detangling Brush is a unique 3D Flexi-Control Brush with multi-nylon bristles & gem tips.

Each bristle is physically formed into a smooth round sphere, like a delicate gem, free of sharp edges. The Mita GEMTIP detangling brush is super flexible with long & short thin bristles to remove tangles effortlessly and painlessly, reducing hair breakage.

The two-length bristles work perfectly to detangle and massage the hair whilst massaging the scalp and gently cleaning away dandruff and dirt from the scalp.

As well as for use on dry hair, the GEMPTIP shines when used in the shower.  It helps to spread shampoo and conditioner evenly along the hair and helps rinse them away more quickly without snagging or pulling on wet hair.

Oooh, I've just been looking at hairbrushes for my 10 year old daughter as the handle has snapped off her wet brush. She has extremely long hair which seems to knot quite easily. We have tried tangle teezers and most recently she has been using a wet brush. I haven't tried Mita brand but this Mita GEMTIPS brush looks absolutely gorgeous and it looks like it would do a fantastic job at detangling her Rapunzel length hair. It would also be great to spread the conditioner on her hair in the shower as I don't think the conditioner is currently reaching all of her hair.

I have a tangle tease which ive had for a while, and 2 off brand ones that are still doing alright. But 6 months? What a waste of plastic lol. This brush is gorgeous though. I might just keep me eyes peeled for it at the chemist!

I have had mine for a very long time. I clean it every now and then when i see it building up. Would love to try a new one

Who knew?! Well I’ve had mine forever so I’d lobe to try a new one out

I’ve had mine for longer than I can remember... I don’t even know where I bought it from but it was cheap. Every now and then I give it a little clean, but for the most part it’s pretty sad looking. Brushes as well as you could expect a hairbrush to, but I have really long hair now that’s really thick and prone to tangles so a good brush is a MUST.

I've had my brush for way to long. Having very curly hair, detangling is always an issue and I do notice the hair breakage. I'd love to trial the detangling brush.

I’ve had mine probably at least 2 years but looking at now, it’s pretty ragged with bent bristles and some even missing. Time for a replacement I guess after reading this article. My brush is a type of detangler which is a godsend with my long curly hair. It always takes me ages to brush my hair and if I go to the pool with friends I’m always the last to leave the changing room because my hair takes so long to do. I’d love to trial this brush.

I've been on the hunt for a new hairbrush for awhile. I used to replace mine quite often (usually once a year) but my favourite one is no longer produced so I've not made it a priority to hunt out a new one. This one looks promising though, especially with being about to use it in the shower instead of using a comb!

Replace your hairbrush? That’s new to me lol. I have long fine hair so a lot of it ends up in my hairbrush, I’m always pulling out handfuls from my brush. I would love to trial this to see if easier on my hair. Bonus on using it in the shower!!

Omg I’ve prob had mine 3/4 years!!! I do swap between a couple of brushes and I’m getting my hair sorted in the next few weeks as I’ve done nothing to it since before lockdown and after having baby so I’d love to trial this beauty!! Guarantee my 2year old daughter will pinch it lol

My current brush is 2 years? Maybe 3 years actually. I'd love to be included in this trial!

Ps thanks for tip about how to remove build up, I wondered how to clean that for awhile oops lol.
