At the time of writing there are 3 days until new series of Vikings. 11 days until House of Cards. And 49 until Game of Thrones. There are 148 days to go until the release of Harper Lee's second novel, the sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird. There are 313 days until Christmas.
I'm no stranger to counting down to things. And it seems neither are our beauty fanatics. From the latest contouring kit to the next must have eyeliner, hotly anticipated products really get the social media feeds a-buzzing. But it's one product that seems to get a beauty more excited with every day closer to launch.
Gerard Cosmetics. Lime Crime. Jeffree Star. All cult, but increasingly popular, lipstick brands that know how to get a girl's heart beating. All it takes is one of these brands to post an Instagram snap of a new shade and boom - every beauty wants it. Scratch that. Every beauty needs it. And they'll stop at nothing to be first in line to try it!
The most lusted after, soon-to-be-released at the moment has to be the Lime Crime Velvetine shade Riot.
Lime Crime Tumblr
Described as a 'neutral, earthy, medium reddish-brown' Riot has bloggers, vloggers and their followers in a tizz. Especially as Lime Crime recently pulled distribution from Australia and New Zealand, meaning the Antipodeans are going to be battling it out with the whole of America to get their hands on the shade.
But all of this internet chatter has me wondering - what's the big deal about a shade of lipstick?
Gerard Cosmetics - 1995
Look at Gerard Cosmetics for example. Famous for their nineties style shades and made famous in NZ when featured in a Shaaanxo vlog. The shade 1995 (the ultimate Kylie Jenner lip) was out of stock for weeks and weeks after - it's restocking sent waves through the blogosphere. And you can't scroll through our Instagram feed lately without seeing a Jeffree Star post. The gender-bending model, singer and lipstick maker has people going crazy for his bold liquid lipsticks - and only 1 shade is currently in stock!
Jeffree Star - I'm Royalty
So back to Riot - are you telling me it's impossible to find a 'neutral, earthy, medium reddish-brown' in a similar finish by another brand? And while it's all very well and good waiting for the release, securing your order and then excitedly waiting for it to arrive on your doorstep, what about the disappointment when it doesn't quite suit your skin tone? Would you wear it anyway because it's Lime Crime Riot? Or Gerard 1995? Or Jeffree Star I'm Royalty?
When it comes to lipstick - what's in a name?
Are you a lipstick brandie? Do you collect every shade of your favourite lipstick brand, and eagerly await the new releases, regardless of whether the shades suit you? Or is a lipstick shade easily duped for you?

I have to say Lime Crime really does give results. Their colours are bold and vibrant. I'd love to get my hands on a Jefree star lip shade.
