Adventures in Dehydrated Skin

Hey ya'll. I thought I'd share my journey in fixing/treating my dehydrated skin. I suspected I had a problem, but three weeks ago, my facialist gave me a huge telling off about how dehydrated my skin has become. I just thought it was super oily, but I usually saw her on Saturday mornings, after I'd used my much loved Clinique Oily Skin formula face wash (Bye Felicia), so my skin was usually feeling a bit tight and thirsty.

So my routine before was basically the clinique three step system, except I used pixi glow tonic instead of the clinique toner. Morning and night. Now, its totally different. Here I am three weeks later, its 11pm and my skin would normally be a total oil slick and its normal. NORMAL and has been normal all day. Yes, there is a small amount of oil, as one would expect at the end of 16 hours awake, but its not a slick.

Whats changed? EVERYTHING. Now, my routine looks like detailed below, removing products that foam up, have too much fragrance and getting products that are just moisture, moisture and moisture, and gentle.

Morning
Garnier Rose Milk Cleanser
Pixi Glow Tonic
Mario Badescu Green Tea Spray
Origins Ginzing eyecream
Drunk Elephant (DE) BHydra
Tarte Maracuja Oil
DE Lala Retro Whipped (just a tiny amount)
SPF (Mecca to Save face)

Evening
Goodness Breakup Makeup Balm
DE Beste Jelly Cleanser (This may be replaced)
Mario Badescu Green Tea Spray
Kate somerville retinol eyecream
Tarte Maracuja Oil
Dr Jart+ Active Hydra Vital Sleeping Mask

So yeah, if you have dehydrated skin, I guess there is hope, but this is what is working for me, and I'm just super stoked to have good results in just under a months time (albeit with a lighter wallet). I guess I never took into account moving to a drier climate and working in air conditioning for the past three years, verses old life in a humid climate and no aircon when doing my skincare.

Amazing the difference climate makes, right? I’m on day 3 in spring in japan and even with flying for 17 hours over two trips, and being less careful than usual with my skin it’s clearer and has lost the puffy look it had a week ago when I was exhausted to the core and not getting outside enough. It’s early spring here so colder mornings and nice afternoons, and the humidity’s not kicked in yet, which is the thing that slicks up my face. I do find a massive difference in oil control when I’m using ethique in Your Face in the morning and an oil cleanser at night. My skins not dehydrated but the hormone tornado that is hypothyroidism makes it unpredictable
