Light, too light

I love scented products and use plug-ins, candles, and incense, all the time. I hadn’t tried a Living Light candle though, so was excited to see this one in the BBBE. It is Revive Come Alive Butterfly.

It comes in an awesome little tin. On opening it, there came a strong citrus smell which scented my bedroom over a few days. I love citrus so that made me happy.

The candle is easy to light and just sit somewhere in its tin. I chose to burn it in my lounge as I’m usually in there. It is a medium sized room.

I sit the tin inside its lid so it doesn’t get too hot on the bottom.

Sadly, the strong citrus scent isn’t so easily detectable once the candle is lit. There is still a scent, but it is quite subtle and smells more like generic-burning-candle than citrus.

I think if I were to repurchase, I would leave the open tin on my duchess where it was, and not light it, as the scent is stronger that way.

Weight for weight, I think I’ll stick with incense and cheaper candles, as they give a stronger smell for a longer period, for much less cost.

"Kitchen" - Good dose of limes/lemongrass

I always walk past small candles, votives or tea lights because in the past, the ones I've purchased have been utterly disappointing because they lacked fragrance. I have used two of these candles in the past from Beautiful Christmas New Zealand box and Best Beauty Box Ever box respectively.

I haven't come across many candles in a tin so I think the packaging is pretty cool and creative. It's compact so it's easy to take traveling where you can just close it up (once the wax has solidified) and pop it into your bag ready to light at the next destination.

You don't need to trim the wick on this (thank goodness) so it really is a "purchase-and-light" kind of candle. However once the wax is fully liquid the flame does come up pretty high which can be a bit of a hazard so you'll need to be mindful of where this is placed. Fragrance aside the main thing I was looking for was whether or not this burned evenly. I really HATE having to maintain a candle that needs constant attention.

I'm happy to say this has a good burn to it where the wax pools evenly around the wick. The tin is not hot to touch within the hour, it's just warm but any longer than that I wouldn't recommend touching it or carrying it around to a different location while burning because the wax might spill over and that's just asking for medical attention.

I let it burn for an hour in a small room and found the fragrance travelled well but due to size I don't think it's ideal to light a big room, you'd probably need more than 2 or 3 to create a relaxing and calm ambiance.

I have the fragrance 'Kitchen' which is amazing. I initially thought it was a lime scent coming through but it's actually lemongrass. Don't get it confused with the kind of overpowering lemongrass you detect in some cuisine this is more of a refreshing take on it. I would recommend this candle for traveling but for rooms in the house I still prefer to use larger candles that last longer.

Lovely NZ made candles

I picked up one of these wee candles in the BeautifuL Christmas Advent Calendar in a scent wouldn't have chosen myself and didn't 100% love, but I can't fault the candles. The scent I got, Revive, was pleasant, just a really citrussy ' refresher' blend and I prefer to use candles for relaxation after work :)

These candle come in cute wee tins, which mean they can be covered over if need be and offer an alternative to the common thick glass jars. I was a little more concerned (whether or not that was legitimate) about these getting hotter, so set it on top of another candle plate i have to be safe. The candle burned cleanly, and for an acceptable length of time given the size. I didn't time it but I wasn't left wondering where it had gone, either.

Extinguishing didn't cause clouds of dark smoke (my pet hate with candles) and the scent hung around for a long time afterwards, but in a subtle, pleasant non-cloying way.

I believe that there are other scents in the range that would have gotten a 5 from me, but this is the one I had :)

Tips: as always, trim the wick before lighting, to ensure a cleaner, safer, better burn :)

Kitchen - Lemongrass

This was such a neat addition to the New Zealand BBBE.

I got the Green/Blue labeled tin in 'Kitchen' which the scent was Lemongrass. And what an amazing smell this is! Very citrus.

Can we talk about how cute the tin is?! Really it's not very practical as the tin does get hot after it has been burning for and hour or two. Keep out of reach of kids. But the tin is such a cool idea, I really love it. Screw top lid.

The candle itself when lit doesn't fill the room with the scent but for a small candle it does release a pleasant scent in the area the candle is. Once you blow it out though I find the fragrance to be stronger.

This candle turns to liquid after half an hour of burning so it's not ideal to take it to another room once lit. I have this candle in my bedroom but it really would make the perfect addition to the kitchen or bathroom :)

I've been burning it for 2 hours everyday for 4 days now and have over half the candle left. For $18 I think it's value for your money.

Beautiful scent but not strong

I received one of these in the Best beauty box ever, I am a big candle fan so getting another candle to add to my collection makes me so happy! I received Revive which has a citrus scent of Orange, grapefruit and lime, combined they smell so refreshing and really open up your senses. The smell of this candle really boosts your mood!

It comes in a beautiful tin, which I have never seen before and a twist lid, I like the idea of being able to carry this in my bag and travel with this.

As much as I love the scent of this candle, when its lit, it doesn't travel very far. The fragrance is very light unless you're up close to the candle.

Overall I wont be purchasing this candle in the future unless the scent is made stronger.

Living Light Pohutukawa - Citrus, Berries, Spices

I got this in the first BBE ever released. I'm really happy with the scent I got - Pohutukawa. This is such a beautiful festive scent for Christmas. It smells like a mix of berries and spices with a hint of citrus. Now the scent has quite the staying power honestly I don't need to light it to get the aroma. I can just put it on the it on the table and next to me or the beside table the scent just wafts in the air. All I need to to do is make sure that when I'm done I screw the lid on tightly.

The burn time is supposed to be eighteen hours with this candle that comes to about a dollar per hour and while I have discovered wax melts to be more cost effective, this isn't too expensive in price for a good candle with a layered scent. The tin can get really hot when it burns so I would recommend placing a sauce underneath it to protect any furniture. I haven't gotten to the end of the candle yet but if I hadn't discovered wax melts I would've repurchased this scent in a larger size.

Tips: If you are looking for a festive scented candle for Christmas this is the scent to go for plus the scent throw is really good even before you light it.

Living light candle

This little tin with the candle in is a real gem.It is a cute round tin and the one I received in my Beauty Box was a kitchen one with lemon grass, rosemary and bergamot scent. The tin is a silver tin with a screw top lid. This tin has lovely light aqua label with a dark aqua strip and white writing.Made in NZ and pure soy wax. The scent is lovely and gives 8 hours of burn time which is amazing for the size and having a lid is so practical when you want the candle to stop burning. It eliminates that horrible smell when the wick is snuffed out. The scent of this is really lovely and lightly permeates the room. I love it on before I go to bed as I find it relaxes me totally.

Tips: Can use in any room -not just the kitchen.

Relax

So happy to see this little tin of Living Light candle in the NZ Brand Best Box Beauty Ever box, I have been a fan of Living Light for a while and have a couple of their candles already so knew this was going to be awesome.

Coming the the scent "Relax" this little tin candle, which unfortunately got overused because I loved it so much I kept on lighting it, is a blend of relaxing fragrances like lavender and patchouli, with the lavender being the most noticeable. It truly was a candle to relax by, making my room fill up with wonderful aromas that allowed me to sit back, chill and be totally at one with the universe for that brief moment of the day. If you suffer from stress and the inability of being able to switch off you need this candle, it sort of forces you to.

Designed to be a travel candle, in comes in a resealable screw top little tin that would be very practical to pop into an overnight bag or even if you are really fancy and have a caravan to pop in there. The wax once the wick is snuffed out returns to a solid state pretty quickly, which might be because there isn't much in the tins but it makes it more easy to get and go whilst on holiday.

As I mentioned above I used it up pretty quickly but then I did have it on for probably 4-6 for the first 3 days of owning it, for it to be bone dry of any wax by day 4. I'm a bit impulsive and greedy like that, but the fragrance was that good I wanted to keep it lit all the time.

Pohutukawa - NZ Goodness at it's best

A candle in the Best Beauty Box Ever was the icing on the cake for me... I have been longing to buy a Living Light soy candle and even better is the scent that arrived in my pack... Pohutukawa!! It is so beautifully soft and yet so familiar and inviting.

The small metal tin meant my candle was safe from bumps and knocks and the scent stayed fresh. The soft scent is hard to pinpoint exactly, it has a warm spice kind of hint to it but more like a subtle gingerbread, a sweet aroma with maybe a hint of lemon... or citrus of a kind. It's very beautiful and enticing.

I imagined the candle to be smaller (pleasantly surprised there) and it takes up the whole tin. It burns well and melts the wax evenly, part and parcel due to the heat absorption of the tin itself. I wouldn't sit this on any painted surfaces as the heat could damage it. I don't think I quite got 18hrs of burning but it would have been pretty close. I wish I could afford to justify buying these more often as they are simply divine

Tips: $18 a candle for 18hrs burn time not sure if this is a good deal or not but it lays outside my expenditure range at the moment for the repurchase of it.
