Packaged in a bright pink 400ml plastic bottle with a flip top lid, VO5's Give Me Volume shampoo caught my eye while I was buying groceries at Countdown.
I have naturally oily, flat, limp and fine hair, so finding a shampoo that will give me volume and address the greasiness is always a challenge. Since treating oil with oil worked for my face (with the oil cleansing method), I thought why not try it with my hair, as this shampoo is enriched with natural oils.
Well, I think I may have been expecting too much from a simple shampoo. Firstly, there was a lot of lather (and who doesn't love a good lather) but it surprised me to see that the second ingredient on the list, after water (aqua) was sodium laurel sulphate - the stuff that makes shampoo lather. This instantly put a red flag up for me. The first four ingredients in a product usually make up the product, with the rest being additives. The next two ingredients were Cocamidopropyl Betaine (another foaming agent) and Sodium Chloride (salt). So far, this shampoo was not looking good, with the main ingredients being water, froth and salt!
It has a clean, almost floral scent and after rinsing the shampoo out and drying my hair, it didn't give me any noticeable volume. It did leave my hair looking clean and shiny, until the next morning and by the following afternoon, I was back to looking greasy and had to wash my hair again the next day. I usually only wash my hair every second night, which was a bit of a stretch with this shampoo and I had to dry shampoo in-between (dry shampoo gave me more volume that this product did).
Would I recommend it? It's highly unlikely. Does Give Me Volume shampoo work? It didn't work for me. Unfortunately, it may just be because of my hair type and it may produce different results on hair that is not naturally oily.
I purchased this shampoo about 3 months ago and it has been one of my favorite shampoos ever since.
The bottle is bright pink and is very eye catching. The shampoos scent is quite strong but nice it smells very fresh and floral.
It lathers up really nice and effectively cleans my hair. My hair always smells so good after using this. It also leaves my hair feeling soft.
This shampoo claims to add volume however I found it did not do this for me but I will still continue to use just for the smell.
