This did start off as a good product and gave my pale skin a look of a blurred soft focus that looked great. However, I found that it is a very fickle powdered and doesn't play nice with a variety of foundations.
Using as a setting powder over foundation is the best way to use this candlelight powder as it has a very soft, muted shimmer that adds a great blue to the face and helps mask blemishes by reflecting the way the light hits your face, without caking you in tons of glitter. A little goes a long way however and don't layer or you will end up with a golden glow all over that looks heavy.
Works well with most foundations but there has been a few I have used under this powder that has caused it to all sink into my pores and break down to become a patchy and somewhat oily looking complexion. So just be wary of that when you use this. It can be used as a spot highlighter for an ever so subtle glow on the top of the cheeks for a more youthful glow, which looks amazing on maturing skin types.
This is a beautiful product that isn't quite right for my skin. I am 21 and have oily/combo skin. As much as I love a good cheekbone highlight, I don't struggle with dull skin. I purchased this product after reading fabulous reviews and I thought it may be a great finishing touch after lathering my skin with a full coverage base and perhaps covering up some of my 'natural glow.'
I must admit I was a little disappointed with the packaging. It is plastic and not particularly eye catching on the outside - quite unlike many Too Faced product. The inside makes up for it though - with a large mirror and the most gorgeous, glowing formula tucked inside. It is the most magical powder - it appears as a setting powder with hundreds of tiny particles of glitter. I am hesitant to use the word glitter, as this makes it sound chunky or cheap - but however you describe it, glitter, sparkles or GLOW - this product is stunning and unlike any other other. It has to be seen to be believed.
I have tried various applications of this product but unfortunately it isn't right for my skin. It doesn't provide enough glow for me to use it as a highlight on the cheekbones, but it provides too much glow for me to use it as a face powder all over, even when applied lightly. This would be absolutely magical for dull, dry or aging skin, or someone looking for a VERY dewy/glowing finish, but it doesn't fit with the finish I prefer on my oily skin.
For anyone considering the Hourglass Ambient palette, I suggest purchasing this instead. It is more affordable and provides a stronger but still natural glow. I won't be repurchasing, but I will absolutely be recommending.
Tips: Read other reviews to hear how this performs on dry/normal skin.
