It says that your skin turns red, mine does too but if you keep using it it gets better :-)

Too harsh on my dry sensitive skin

I purchased this off iherb after reading the raving reviews about this both on here and online. I have used it once a week for the past 3 weeks and have had both good and bad results.

On the good side it has definitely reduced the amount of breakouts I have had and kept my skin oil free.

However, I have dry sensitive skin and this has really dried out my skin even more (despite layering on moisturiser after use). My forehead and chin in particular are like crocodile skin. I really wanted to like this and to get the amazing benefits others have had without it affecting my dryness, but, it just hasn't worked for me.

I mixed the clay with apple cider vinegar as suggested and applied the mixture to my face with an old paddle foundation brush. The suggested thickness is ridiculous and with that amount of it layered on it just did not dry. The second time I used a much thinner layer and this worked a lot better. I found it really itchy on my face which was extremely uncomfortable, but, persevered and kept it on for the full amount of time. It pulls the skin as it dries and cracks all over which was fine. After the 20 minutes was up I removed the mask in the shower as it is so much easier to fully soak and re-hydrate the mask before trying to rub it off the skin. My face always felt nice and soft and clean immediately after each use but the morning after the dryness was really evident.

Not a product I will repurchase and will probably gift my tub to a friend as it just isn't suitable for my skin. I wouldn't recommend this to others with dry skin.

Dryness and Itchy

I purchased this off Iherb

The packaging is bright and catches your eye straight away Comes in a large plastic jar, quite a fair amount in the jar.

I found this product is no good for dry sensitive skin, I tried to make the mixture with just water and then apple cider vinegar as suggested on the jar, also tried it thick and thinly applied.

Both times I had the same result it dried out my skin something terrible and left my skin feeling itchy with hive type bumps.

It is quite hard to remove off your skin and it takes a lot of emulsifying with water to get it off,

This would be fantastic for oily and unsensitive skin

Not a product I will repurchase.

I am in the process of ordering it now....... I have dry sensitive skin, I was just thinking what I might try though if it irritates my skin is melting some coconut oil and mixing it with that then applying it! ;) I'll give it a go, great review!

If you still have it, try mixing it with honey as honey is a humectant , it's going to draw moisture to your skin, or try a an oil like a rich oil eg olive or avocado oil. you could also mash some avo into it.

Wow. I was going to give this a try but it sounds like a no-go for my dry skin. Thanks.

I've almost added this to an iherb order a couple of times, but I'll definitely stay away from it now - my skin sounds similar to yours, so it doesn't sound like it would work for me. Thanks for the review! xx

Disappointed it didn't really work for me

With this product being a bit of an iHerb legend - I had to try it. It took me a while to get it as it is so popular it is regularly out of stock. I couldn't wait to try it once it arrived so I mixed the powder up with apple cider vinegar - I also tried plain water but it mixed up so much better with the vinegar. It really stinks with the vinegar- like sting your eyes stink! I packed it on and let it dry. It does pulse and it dries. It is difficult to remove after - best to just have a shower and soak it off. My face was very bright red afterwards which took a few hours to dissipate. My skin felt lovely and soft but the next day I got some whoppa pimples- big, blind, sore ones. I thought maybe it's bringing them to the surface etc so I kept using the mask but every time it makes me break out badly. I've seen some suggestions to mix it with avocado or honey so I might give that a go, I like the lush cosmetic warrior mask so I might try making my own version of that using the Aztec mask as the clay base and adding some egg, tea tree, garlic and honey perhaps? Not sure but on its own this mask doesn't seem too good for my normal skin.

Aztec Secret Clay Mask

My skin felt great after using this but I mind it a lot of work. I prefer a mask or tissue mask that is quick and easy to pop on.

Rejuvinating

I really love this mask when I am in need of some serious rejuvenation. It takes some perseverance but the results are definitely worth it!

The amount of product you receive for the price is ridiculous! So much I think I could easily do a mask a week for a whole year. I mix about 2 tsp of powder with 2 and a half tsp of apple cider vinegar and then use an old foundation brush to apply.

It definitely tingles a wee bit when first applied but I have a feeling that is more to do with the acidity of the vinegar. Once it begins to harden that is when you really need to preserver. I would not reach for this mask if I was in the mood for relaxing because it seriously feels like its pulling your face completely taut. I have felt the pulsating but it was only very slight and I wouldn't describe it as uncomfortable, not as uncomfortable as the tightness you feel as the mask drys.

I don't let it dry completely because I feel like I would go insane if I waited that long but the relief you feel when you wet your face and experience the results afterwards is amazing.

It really is healing, I have pretty dry skin but also have a tendency to breakout and it pretty much restores my skin to a nice fresh normal state. I feel like this mask is going to be an essential over the winter months!

Tips: Push through the feeling of your skin being stretched off your face! Its worth it :)

Lasts for ever

This amazing mask seems to last forever. I have had one jar for so long now and use it at least once a week either as a face mask mixed with apple cider vinger or a bath detox. It cleans all the dirt out of my skin leaving it nice and smooth though on my face I do find a little drying.

The only negative I have is its a pain to clean up if I make a mess which is often due to the powder form it comes in.

Really good

i purchased this for my partner because he has oily acne prone skin and i found that it works quite well at balancing the oil on his skin out. The smell is awful but its still amazing

Tips: Works better when its a little runny and goes with apple cider vinegar really well too.

Feel the pulsating!

I love this stuff on my face, especially my nose and chin where I get the most blackheads and pimples. It's very cheap and will last a loooong time since you only need about a teaspoon for your whole face. As it dries it tightens and you start to feel your face pulsate, it feels strange but I guess that means it's working!

I like how it's only clay so when you make up a mask you can personalise the ingredients and know exactly what you're putting on your face. I prefer it with apple cider vinegar as the tub recommends, and sometimes I put a couple of drops of rosehip oil in for added moisture.

One annoying thing about this though is that it just isn't as convenient as a mask out of a tube, and also when it dries on your face it takes a bit of effort to get it off. I usually put it on 20 min before a shower then let the water soften the clay so it can easily be rubbed off.

After I wash it off my face is a bit red but goes back to normal after half an hour or so. My skin feels tighter (but in a good way) and cleaner, and as I've been using it for a few weeks once a week I can see less blackheads on my nose and chin :)

I would recommend this to anyone even with sensitive skin - I have sensitive excema-prone skin and this is gentle enough for me, and there are no nasty added ingredients like in ready made masks. Try it out!

Tips: Mix with organic apple cider vinegar for best results, the acidic vinegar balances the pH of the alkaline clay, and when mixed together makes a smooth mousse rather than a clumpy mess.

aztec healing clay mask

WOW! this face mask is defiantly different to any other mask i have ever used , i have been working with face masks for over 3 years in the beauty industry and have never come across one quite like this one. I didn't really think it could be possible that a face mask would literally make your face pulsate like everybody said , but this stuff defiantly does that! I get a lot of hormonal break outs and have enlarged pores over my nose and cheeks. I use this mask once a week and it really clears my skin out leaving my skin refreshed and bright with visibly decreased pores.I always go for this mask when my skin is breaking out and it really helps with clearing my skin, i leave it on until it all drys, it feels really really tight on the skin and you can not talk with this mask on as it will crack and it pretty much feels like a straight jacket for your skin haha. After washing the mask of my skin is very pink , but eventually goes away after about 10-15 mins , so don't worry if your skin goes really pink as its totally normal. I find my skin feels very dry after using this mask so i always make sure i have my trilogy rose hip serum available to put on after wards to hydrate and treat my skin, so i recommend if you do purchase this you also purchase a really good moisturizer or serum to use afterwards.

Tips: Make sure when removing this mask to dampen face with a wet flannel to soften the mask to remove.
