Nice change from liquid removers.

When this arrived I was happy I had gotten another Trilogy product to try.

I don't think that I have ever used the amount they tell us to when using it but I take it piecemeal as I do each part of my face, wait about 30 seconds after covering my face completely then remove in one go with a warm/hot flannel. I have been very naughty and used it to remove eye makeup as well, I haven't had any reaction but it advises against this. I normally twice cleanse with this, sometimes I wash a third time with a foaming cleanser but others times I just leave it. This leaves my skin nice and soft after use, so it shouldn't surprise that I have even used it as a mask after cleansing to hydrate. Little multi tasking on the product that wasn't planned for.

The scent is nice and soft but with a hint of something sharper underneath. The downside of this product is the cleaning of your flannels but that's easily fixed, they need a real wash rather than a rinse out and reuse the next day. The pot lasts a while for me as I also alternate other cleaners and removers with it.

Tips: Use a spoon to remove from the pot if you are not sure on using your fingers, and you can wash the spoon before each use so you know it is clean.

Disappointed

I received this product in one of the beauty boxes and I was pretty disappointed. The product is difficult to get out nd it didn't really remove my waterproof eye makeup. I use makeup remover mainly for my eyes as I use a makeup cleanser for my skin. I was disappointed as it didn't remove any of my eye makeup. It does however remove makeup swatches on my hand howver

Argh it's the worst when a makeup remover struggles with waterproof mascara!

Smells wonderful and works!

Rubbing this stuff into my face makes me feel like I'm having a mini-facial. It smells divine and feels so luxurious. it removes all makeup, including long-lasting and waterproof which is just amazing (although if I have heavy eyeliner and waterproof mascara I will use an eye makeup remover first). I sometimes follow it with a toner. I only use it at night, I prefer a foaming cleanser in the morning to feel fresher.

Tips: it will stain your washcloths/flannels! I soak mine in Sard or similar (I always have a bucket of tea towels and whatnot soaking though, I'm weird like that...) and they come out pretty good.

Trilogy goodness

Like a lot of other Beauty Reviewers, I received my Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm in the September BRBB.

Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm comes in a brown plastic jar with a black screw top lid and of course the classic Trilogy labelling. Within the packaging was also included a small organic face cloth which is really soft.

Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm is solid. I had never used a Cleansing Balm before. I used 1/4 teaspoon (literally) and the smallest amount really does go a long way for me. I rubbed between my fingers and once Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm starts to warm up, it melts in to a liquid. I love Trilogy fragrance and this has not let me down. It has a beautiful, earthy scent.

When applying to my face it feels as though I am applying an oil, although I am not left with an oil residue. It does feel slightly sticky though.

My makeup literally dissolves, including my mascara. I don't wear a lot of makeup or waterproof mascara. I am cautious about what I use around my eye area and was very relived I did not react in any way. Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm is very gentle around my eyes.

You definitely need to use warm water and a face cloth to remove as it is slightly sticky. After use, my face feels cleansed, soft and smooth.

Average

I received this in the September BRBB and I was super excited to see it since Trilogy is such a great NZ brand. Also it is worth $38.90 which made me even more excited. I thought a makeup remover that costs nearly $40 must be pretty amazing, but I was left with mixed feelings about this product. I finished up the whole pot a few months ago. I got it in September, so I think it lasted me about six months. I used it on average about twice a week, so it does last a decent amount of time.

This product comes with an organic cotton facecloth. I used the cloth when I first tried this balm, but I didn't love it. The cloth is very thin and it felt scratchy against my face. It helped to remove most of my makeup, but not all of it. It would need to go into the washing machine after each use, which just didn't seem practical to me. I never used the cloth again after that first time.

The packaging says that you only need to use 1/4 of a teaspoon for your entire face. There is no way that this is enough product to remove makeup. I measured that amount out with a measuring spoon one time, and it only managed to cover one cheek on my face. I found that I needed to use at least a teaspoon or more to effectively remove my makeup.

I liked how this product felt when I applied it to my face. It feels nice to rub it all over your face at the end of a long day, and watch it 'melt' your makeup away. The balm has a subtle natural smell to it. I preferred to use a baby wipe to wipe away the balm and the old makeup. It's probably not that environmentally friendly to use a baby wipe, but it did the trick for me.

It removed my foundation, lipstick and eyeshadow easily, but it always struggled with removing mascara. I would really have to rub and apply a lot of the balm to get the mascara off. Generally I would end up using Micellar Water on my eyes afterwards to get the last of it off. This is a really gentle product, so it might suit people with dry/sensitive skin.

Overall I found this product to be a bit average. I've used other makeup removers that do a much better job at a much cheaper price, so I probably won't be purchasing this one again.

Makeup, Be Gone!

I received this in a BRBB and was excited to try it out seeing as so many makeup removers are drying or just smell awful. It comes with a tiny organic cotton face cloth, which to be fair isn't worth the hassle. You're better off to use a normal one that you already have.

I find up to half a teaspoon to be more than enough product depending on how much makeup you need to remove. Starting with the heaviest areas (i.e. eyes and lips) and work your way out around the face is the most effective way to use this. It melts beautifully. Spend a little more time massaging it into those heavier areas for the best result.

You end up looking like a melted clown, but don't worry, it washes off! With some warm water and a cloth it wipes away easily and leaves your skin feeling hydrated.

Having tried this balm it's something I probably would purchase.

Tips: Best applied before showering so you can soften it up well to remove.

BR review

Thanks to my lovely fellow BR friends that gave great reviews for this product, i just had to try out. I love the Trilogy range and try and get my hands on all their latest products. I love the natural ingrediants used in the product, and the feeling of it cleansing and ridding all the unwanted make up off my face was great. i love the product as it is great for my dry skin and gave a nice healthy finish, can be expensive but it lasted me a while

Favorite cleanser!

I have a wee supply of this at home, and I find it is an effective makeup remover at a reasonable price when you compared it to others. I've also used Dermalogica pre-cleanse and this is about 1/3 of the price. It's a semi-solid at room temperature with a soft smell. I have tried this on my eye makeup as well and it does work but doesn't always remove all the mascara. I find it quite soothing massaging it into my skin. It definitely needs a flannel to remove, it has one in the packaging, but any will do. I must say that the flannel you get in the package is softer than normal ones and is nice to use. The product emulsifies with your makeup, lifting it off the skin.

Bonus that it is a nice New Zealand brand that uses quality ingredients. Would purchase again.

Tips: Soften the product between your fingers and use it on dry skin for the most benefit. If you don't feel clean enough you can use another cleanser afterward.

Outstanding - Gentle on the skin, removes make-up.

Where do I begin with this stuff?

This stuff is truly amazing. I got it in a BRBB. I don't tend to purchase high end skin care, so it was a right treat when it arrived in the box. You need the smallest amount of this stuff, two small fingernails worth of product. It spreads easily over the face and you can see it breaking up the make-up straight away. The wash-cloth is a lovely touch - I definitely don't mind paying extra for something sustainanbly sourced (Plus Triology is a NZ brand, WIN!). All my makeup comes off with a swipe of the cloth, I don't have to 'work' it at all. Really its as easy as any other make-up remover I've used - plus I'm sure its saving the enviroment not having tonnes of make-up pads in the landfill!

Tips: Be prepared for stains if you use it to remove colourful lipstick and mascara.

Absolutely lovely!

This is one of the more expensive skincare items I own and I love it - although I dont usually spend over $30 on a skincare product I would definitely purchase again. The balm has a nice subtle scent, almost citrus-y. You apply to dry skin, rub all over your face then remove with a warm cloth or sometimes I just use water from the shower! It makes my skin feel so nourished and glowy.

Tips: I prefer to use at night as it leaves a hydrating film on your face which leaves my skin feeling super hydrated.
