A Must Have!

This product I can seriously not live with out. I use this religiously every night to remove my makeup. I have been looking into purchasing a good makeup remover for a while now as I was sick of using wipes that did not completely remove my makeup and I wanted to really stick to committing myself to remove my makeup properly every night before bed.

I picked this up in the last beauty vault as I have heard so many good things about the Trilogy brand. At first I didn't know what to expect as the product reminded me of beewax. I don't typically reach for products with this consistency. I gave it a go and it was really waxy to massage into my skin. It comes with a face wash cloth which I believe is made with bamboo. It is so soft and gentle on my skin and I found that this product completely removes my makeup no matter how thick it is.

Overall I find this product wonderful and 100% effective. A little bit of product defiantly goes a long way. I recommend this product to everyone, I believe it is worth trying out.

Lovely luxurious makeup remover

Balm cleansers aren't my go-to makeup removers, simply because they're not the tidiest way to take off your makeup. When I do want to really treat my skin and take care of it, though, I'll use a balm cleanser like this because it's rich and nourishing. The Trilogy cleansing balm doesn't strip the skin at all and it really feels like it's moisturising and conditioning the skin while taking off your makeup.

Only slight inconvenience - you need to use a cloth. So it's lucky this product comes with one! I appreciate that thought from Trilogy, although you'll need more than one cloth if you're removing makeup daily.

Tips: Wash your cloth after each use so you're not recontaminating your face.

Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm

I wanted to love this one, as I've loved most Trilogy products I've tried, but this one is just a little too much effort for me.

In theory there's a lot to love about this creamy balm. It smells delicious and leaves my face feeling smooth, clean and not stripped too heavily after use.

On the downside though, I'm not a big fan of having a pot that I have to dig my fingers into to get the product out. It just doesn't feel very hygienic to me, even though I was my hands before use. I have long nails and getting a sticky balm stuck under them grosses me out.

I'm also a fan of very heavy eye black makeup. Using this to remove it is just too messy and a bit too much of a hassle for me. It takes a fair bit of work and lot of smearing black inky mess all around my eyes for a mediocre result. I'm also not a fan of the way it feels on my eyelashes. Now I use a separate micellar water to take my eye makeup off first, but it seems a bit silly to me to have to take my eye makeup off before I can use a makeup remover. I felt like I needed to really scrub to make this work and occasionally I'll follow with a separate cleanser to remove the residue.

I guess in summary I like the way this makes my skin feel after I have used it, but it's hard to motivate myself to go to this much effort right before bed. Once I use this up I'll probably return to my easy old routine of eye makeup remover/micellar water followed by a cream cleanser.

Lovvve!

I flipping love this product! Its now my go to cleanser! I have always done an initial cleanse with an oil, preferably coconut - due to all the goodies inside but also because its fab at breaking down makeup, and then I do a second cleanse with another cleanser (but this really does depend on the amount of slap on my face). However, now that I have come across this wee gem, I'm addicted. First off, the wee cloth, cuteness factor 10/10 right there. Next is the amount of product... lasting for aggggges! Then there is the heavenly smell of beeswax and other goodies galore, delishy!! The packaging states that it is activated by water but more accurately, it is activated by the heat and manipulation of your hands, working the product over your skin. It also has the bonus advantage of providing a really lovely base for a facial massage. I really love it, have repurchased and have definitely recommended to friends..

Tips: Give (or better still... get someone else to) yourself a facial massage while cleansing.

I like it but my eyes don't.

I love Trilogy and I love cleansing balms so when Trilogy announced they were releasing this, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! However, I decided to be patient for once as I had a suspicion it would turn up in the BRBB that was just to be released! So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I opened said BRBB to see this beauty sitting inside! To me, this alone was worth the cost of the box and everything else was a bonus GWP.

It comes in a screw top plastic jar which is easy to get into. The brown frosted plastic makes it look more like glass but without the risk of smashing the whole jar when you have slippery hands. I've only just realised from other reviews that Trilogy recommend just using 1/4 teaspoon (there's no way I can read that when I'm ready to remove makeup and without my glasses on lol) I definitely used a lot more but the jar has still lasted me a good few months (I've alternated this with other cleansers so hard to give an exact time frame) I currently use a waterproof mascara and discovered when doing a 'Save or Splurge' review for BR that you do need to apply oil cleansers very generously to get it off. I did find this got the rest of my makeup off quickly but I did need to rub it in a lot to get waterproof mascara off.

As well as being a fan of balm cleansers I also love hot cloth cleansing so I was also excited by the face cloth that came with this. However I quickly went back to my old favourite flannels as I find them better size wise and for removing the cleanser. As others have noted, the cloth is really hard to get clean which I've never found with a normal towelling flannel.

What I love is the smell and they fact it is all natural oils - no nasty mineral oils here! I leaves my skin feeling cleansed but moisturised at the same time. What I don't love so much is having to rub my eyes to get my mascara off. This also left my eyes watery and blurry afterwards. At first I was a bit concerned about how blurry my eyesight had become without glasses then realised it was the cleanser causing this lol. Now I have read the label it says 'avoid contact with eyes'. I guess they have to put that but seems to defeat the purpose of a makeup remover to me.

This is a good product but for me, it just doesn't measure up to my all-time favourite cleanser but then I have yet to find anything that does (Lush's Ultrabland in case you're wondering!)

Pleasent surprose

I've never tried a cleansing balm before. When I saw these where in the last beauty box I wanted to get my little hands on it. Luckily for me it popped up in the BR vault and I got my opportunity :)

This product comes in a sweet little round container, black screw top lid. It comes with a wee cloth also which personally I find pointless,it's kind of well a flannel. I don't see its purpose.

Inside a yellow balm a solid yellow balm. Which I was quite surprised by, I almost expected it to be like a cream this however u need to dig your fingers into it and scoop the product out.

This product does cleanse, it does remove tough stubborn makeup and makes your skin feel clean and smooth without drying it.

There is an impressive amount of product and it lasts for some time. For $38.90 I think this product is definitely worth it. If you don't own this product already, look into it :)

Didn't Really Work For Me

I like the idea of being to remove my makeup quickly and completely - so I was super excited when I got to try this in one of the beauty boxes - it sounded right up my alley...unfortunately it wasn't really for me.

The concept was great...apply to face, work it around, then remove it with water and the supplied cloth. While it seemed to remove most of my foundation, I found it super difficult to remove my eye make up, especially my mascara. I found that I was still having to use make up remover wipes to remove whatever make up was left on my face.

The facecloth was slightly redundant as well. While it did help to remove some of the product, being that it was white, after one use it was dirty - and I mean dirty (especially with the removal of the make up I use on a daily basis).

While this wasn't for me, it may work better for someone who doesn't wear as much make up, because for me and my full daily made up face, it didn't really remove enough product for me to justify using it!

Disappointed :(

I got this in the vault ages ago since I've never used a balm makeup remover before. My impression of Trilogy has always been pretty high since I absolutely love their rosehip oil. This was a total disappointment and proves that even really great brands can screw up sometimes.

The product comes in a little jar with a cloth that you're supposed to use to wipe the balm off your face. It's a nice simple design but I wish they had a spatula or something to scoop out the balm since I have to try dig it out with my finger and that feels really unhygienic. It's quite solid in the jar but softens really quickly when I rub some between my fingers. It has a faint scent that smells 'natural' and not unpleasant. When I massaged it onto my face as directed I found that it dit somewhat shift around the makeup and lift it off slightly. But my eyemakeup wouldn't budge and I didn't want to risk scrubbing at my eyes too hard with an oily balm. Then came the step where I tried to wipe off the balm with the cloth. It was slightly rough and I feel like it ended up irritating my skin slightly and didn't remove all the balm from my face. I ended up having to use a couple more makeup remover wipes just to really finish the job.

I really tried to love this and gave it a couple more go's but it just really didn't work for me. I found that when I'm wearing only bb cream and no eyemakeup the balm was sufficient. So I'll probably use this when I only need a gentle cleanse. A good thing though is that this agrees with my sensitive skin! Yay!

Tips: Really warm up the balm between your fingers before you apply it to your face.

Be Gone, Balm

I can't comment on the packaging as I'd asked my local Farmers store for a sample of this product (by taking in my own sample pot) as I didn't want to commit to the fairly large tub without knowing how my skin was going to react or how well it was going to work. The balm is a pale yellow colour with a firm, almost coconut oil consistency that softens and "melts" with body heat from your fingers and skin.

I really did want to love this product as there is so much hype around it but, unfortunately, Trilogy Be Gone Cleansing Balm just didn't do it for me. The balm needs to be applied to dry skin and I had to massage quite firmly to spread and smear the balm and my make-up all over my face in order for the balm to "melt" my make-up off before wiping it off with a warm cloth. The balm also left me with a greyish-black panda-eye effect around my eyes, especially if I'd used a long-lasting gel eyeliner pencil and this didn't come off when wiping the balm off with the warm cloth. I had to use micellar water to remove it.

I don't like the way the balm felt on my eyes and eyelashes and it left me with blurry vision after use. It also didn't really leave my skin feeling clean, it felt like there was still some kind of 'dirty', oily make-up residue on my skin and I felt the need to cleanse with a foaming cleanser afterwards.

The packaging says to use a quarter of a teaspoon of balm but that amount just wasn't enough to remove a full face of make-up. I ended up using between half a teaspoon and a full teaspoon, depending on whether I was wearing long-lasting eyeliner or not.

I'm really glad that I didn't spend my money on a full sized tub, only to be horribly disappointed. I won't be recommending or purchasing this product. I'd rather use Lipidol's Cleansing Oil, it's more affordable, much easier to use and it emulsifies with water, so it simply rinses away. No oily residue and no wash cloth needed.

Tips: Take your own sample tub (these can be bough from Dollar Stores) and ask for a sample before you buy a full sized tub.

Nice change from liquid removers.

When this arrived I was happy I had gotten another Trilogy product to try.

I don't think that I have ever used the amount they tell us to when using it but I take it piecemeal as I do each part of my face, wait about 30 seconds after covering my face completely then remove in one go with a warm/hot flannel. I have been very naughty and used it to remove eye makeup as well, I haven't had any reaction but it advises against this. I normally twice cleanse with this, sometimes I wash a third time with a foaming cleanser but others times I just leave it. This leaves my skin nice and soft after use, so it shouldn't surprise that I have even used it as a mask after cleansing to hydrate. Little multi tasking on the product that wasn't planned for.

The scent is nice and soft but with a hint of something sharper underneath. The downside of this product is the cleaning of your flannels but that's easily fixed, they need a real wash rather than a rinse out and reuse the next day. The pot lasts a while for me as I also alternate other cleaners and removers with it.

Tips: Use a spoon to remove from the pot if you are not sure on using your fingers, and you can wash the spoon before each use so you know it is clean.
