Great for oily eyelids

I have this in colour Painterly which is basically a skin coloured beige which I use as a primer before my eye-shadow. It really helps the eye-shadow to stay in place all day without creasing or melting away & I've found that it enhances the colour of the eye-shadow. Whenever I wear eye-shadow I always apply this first. I have oily lids that always crease the eye-shadow & it looks horrible-but not with this stuff. It lasts for ages I've had my pot for about 2 years and it looks hardly used because you really use only the tiniest amount. Touching the top of the product puts enough on your finger to cover the area, then you can apply eye-shadow immediately. I always use my finger because it is way to easy to overload a brush with it. Great stuff

Tips: If you use too much on one eye, it will actually crease. use the minimal amount & its awesome

It looks like I'm the only one who doesn't love it

Ive tried 2 colors, bare study and groundwork, and i can't figure out how to make them work for me! Ive tried applying with all sorts of different brushes, I've tried using my fingers and it just seems patchy, and if i try to apply another coat it just wipes off the first coat. The colors are so pretty but i never use them because they just aren't working for me.Does anyone else have this problem? or can anyone give me tips so i can love my paint pots as much as i want to?! please comment!

'Bare Study' and 'Let's Skate'

From the start the MAC packaging is great. Makes you feel like you have bought quality. From the glass bottom to the rubberised cap. I love the cap in particular as it lets you get some grip to open this (especially when you close the lid as tightly as I do).

I find using my fingers to apply these best. I find it warms up the product quite nicely so they apply smoothly and means I can blend out the edges. If I use a brush for these I can often apply too much product.

I often use these by themselves on simple makeup days. But they also work well as bases or primers for product. They definitely make powder eyeshadows last longer without creasing for me. I also like that a colored base like this can make the same eyeshadows have a completely different look.

Bare Study - Golden light brown. Great as a starter color although quite shimmery. I say it is great as a starter color as it is very neutral so will be within many peoples comfort zone. It also means it goes with many other neutral shades so you can use it with things you already have.

Let's Skate - Pale shimmery pink. I must say I don't use this nearly as much as Bare Study. But it is a great going out color as it is extremely shimmery. I do get a bit of fall down with this product - the shimmer dropping onto the face. However I usually do my eyes before face makeup so just brush it off. This is great as a bright base and really brings out my blue eyes.

Tips: Make sure you always do the lid up super tight and store them lid side down. As with many cream products these can dry out and doing this can make them last longer.

Almost everytime I use shadow!

I use the soft ocre all over my lids when I am going to apply shadow or even alone. It is the perfect base colour for my lids and gets rid of any veins or discolouration if needed.

The paint pot is nice and creamy highly pigmented as well so you need not use too much otherwise you will crease your shadow. I have slightly oily lids so this is perfect to get rid of that problem. Also will help with the colour pay off of every shadow you use.

Tips: A little goes a long way. I usually use my finger tip to apply or a small concealer brush.

Mac paint pot

I have a couple of paint pots Soft ochre Delft Artefact Indianwood Rubenesque Genuine treasure Bare study

The colour pay off is really good and they blend easily. I use my finger to apply and blend my crease out with a blending brush. I use them alone or as an eye shadow base, or as an eyeliner which I set with eyeshadow.

I find these very comparable to the maybelline colour tattoos, and stila smudge pots and mix and match them up. Cost is a point when it comes to repurchasing as maybelline is a lot more price friendly and can be picked up at perfume sales for $6-12 as opposed to $40ish. I do think mac still has a superior colour selection, and I'm a packaging snob sometimes and mac just looks a lot more chic and classy without big bar odds and ugly stickers.

Tips: Keep your lids on nice and tight or they can dry out. Use a light hand as they can layer up and become uneven.

Painterly as base

My lids look great with eyeshadow but they don't hold it well - shadows tend to move into the creases no matter what primer I try! I took this problem to MAC and one of the makeup artists recommended I use the Paint Pot as a "grip" beneath eyeshadow. I bought the "Painterly" shade as it is closest to my natural skin tone and would go well with any colour layered over. I find it's quite nice to brighten the eyes on it's own, but I don't think it stays put quite as well as I was sold. I am an extreme case though! I use a brush as I was instructed by the MAC makeup artist to apply this product. I have had it for years and use it every time I use eye shadow so the investment goes a long way! The packaging is nice though has a lot of glass, which is a bit heavy if you're taking it for travel.

Groundwork works

I purchased a pot of this in the colour Groundworks from the Mac store in Botany. A young man served me and I told him I want an eyeshadow that acts as my base and stays on all day. He sat me down on one of the chairs and proceeded to brush this eye colour all over my eyelid and I loved it right there and then. I left the store without purchasing it at that time because I wanted to make sure it was going to last before I spent my money. Anyway I was back in the store the next day and bought it. Have worn it everyday since then. Its creamy texture is so easy to apply and yes it lasts throughout my work day. I paid $37 for it and I feel I got my money's worth. I'm going to buy myself another one but in a different colour to compliment and add to the one I've bought. No creases either...yay.

Tips: According to the guy that sold me the pot, you can use this as your primer as well. Tried it and it works for me.

Great!

It's a great primer for your eyeshadows, but I feel like it creases really easy if you wear it just by itself. My eyelids are quite oily so cream-like products always crease on me, so setting it with a loose powder or to prime with eyeshadows works best for me. It's still a great primer never the less, just would'nt recommend to wear it on it's own if you have oily eyelids like myself.

Non-creasing, gorgeous colours

I have two of these - Groundwork (soft neutral brown) and Vintage Selection (pinky champagne). I use Groundwork on its own all over my lid, and will sometimes layer Vintage Selection on top. The best thing about these is they do not crease on me, which I find incredible. I apply them with my fingers and find them easy to blend. They are expensive but will last forever!

It's worth it I think! I have tried cream eyeshadows from lots of different brands and these are my favourite. The MAC artist can help you pick one that will suit you - there is a decent colour selection. Enjoy! They are great.

Prime or Colour

I love MAC Paint Pots, for one key reason: their staying power. They just don't budge throughout the day, and them when you go to remove it with a cotton pad and some remover - it just swipes gently away. Amazing.

I used to use Painterly as an eyelid primer, as I can get quite oily lids. I have since discovered better eye-specific primers, but I'll always have a soft spot for Painterly because I love the colour on its own, it totally glams up a natural make-up look.

It's easy to apply with a brush, but I also use clean finger tips.

Tips: Don't have too many open at once - they do dry out, so you have to bin them after a year or so

They sound decadent and wonderful. I'd love to try one of these one day out of curiosity.
