Confusing and oily

This product really confused me. I had to look it up on the L'Oréal site to understand how to use it. I applied it blended with make up, on top, underneath, and with a base of moisture only. None of the application techniques worked for me, I didn't see as much of a shimmer as I expected and was left with a oily feeling on my skin.

I don't think I would use this again on my face as the oil slick, wet shimmer result was just gross. However I will try it mixed with moisturiser on my body for a golden dawn glow and see how that works.

Love the bottle, super classy, and the dropper is a great idea as a little goes a long way.

Tips: If it doesn't work on your face try it on your arms or legs with moisturiser instead!

Not a highlighter

If you are hoping that this will give you the similar "glowing" look of highlighter - think again. This might be your lazy option of foundation substitute over winter to go to supermarket, or to "thin out" your hard-formula foundation, but it's nothing more than that. I've tried this in four ways: as a base, mixed with my foundation, mixed with a concealer and as a liquid highlighter.

As a base - it was below average. I honestly didn't see much of dewiness, or glowing feeling from my face. I was hoping that this would cover my dull face in case I forget to do my skincare routine - but I still looked dull without my usual beauty regime. I applied my foundation over the base, but it was gone before lunchtime (in a cool workplace!?). I definitely wouldn't re-use this as a base.

Mixed with my foundation - for summer time, I don't think this was a great idea so will try this in winter time again. I have a combination skin where my skin outside is a bit oily but it's dry inside. Mixed with foundation, my base make up disappeared around lunchtime again.

Mixed with concealer - I've tried mixing this with my fav Nars concealer and only used the area that I wanted to "highlight." I applied with my usual brush and it wasn't so bad.

Liquid highlighter - I had my highest hope as it seemed very pigmented. It was average - it wasn't as pigmented as I hoped it to be on my face. But that being said, if you are looking for very natural highlighter (like barely-there sort of highlighter), then I guess this could work with you. You also don't need much as a liquid highlighter as you can't layer it up.

Tips: Mix with concealer and apply thin layer over your skin after sunscreen for "natural" make up.

I wanted to love it

I was most excited about getting to review this product. Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations.

The colour is absolutely stunning. The formula is very creamy and hydrating to give a lovely glow. But that's where the positives stop...

It works well on its own as a base but as soon as you try to add it to foundation or use at a highlighter like recommended I ran into problems.

I found adding it to my foundation gave a beautiful glow yes but I had to use twice the amount of foundation to get the coverage I normally achieve.

And using as a highlighter...I only made the mistake once! I dropped a wee bit onto my cheekbone and went to blend to finish my look. It removed all products that were under it leaving weird marks on my face with no makeup. I tried to blend a different way on the other side thinking it may have been the way I did it, but no luck still having the same result.

Maybe it's the products I use not working well with it or how I tried to use it, I don't know but unfortunately it's a no go from me.

Wake Up and Glow Mon Amour

Firstly, I find the bottle strangely weird as the top or the dropper seemed to be off-cantered and slightly wonky, which makes it looks like a baby bottle’s teat, but not in a cute way. The dropper is also a bit pointless as it produces a massive blob of product - great if I want a lot of bling to mix with body lotions. Otherwise it’s way too much product, a smaller dropper would have worked better.

The highlighting drops has a pretty colour (01 Sparkling Love) with slightly sweet scent that I don’t mind. It has very runny consistency, more runny than what I expected. Messier than my expectation.

A little bit goes a long way, a super duper tiny drop size of it can cover a lot of areas. It gives a subtle sheen/sparkles on my décolletage and my shins. The effects can only be clearly seen under the sun/the light. Therefore must always apply it under good lighting, otherwise might ended up looking like a disco ball.

I was a bit worried of putting it on my face after reading on the ingredients list that it contains coconut oil - my face doesn’t like that particular acne-inducing ingredient. I tried using it as eyeshadow, didn’t work well as it creased on my lids. Very hard to spread it around properly and had to use much lesser amount.

I like the sparkly effects on my shin. Would use it more when summer weather is finally here.

Overall I would only use it on my body and limbs, not on my face. It doesn’t blow me over, I still prefer my powder highlighter that’s easier and quicker to use, with less mess.

Wake Up and Glow Mon Amor Highlighting Drops

I really like using this as a highlighter on my cheekbones, but didn't like this as a base under or mixed with foundation.

When I used this under foundation I found that my foundation and makeup on top didn't look very nice on top of it. I tried using next to no product and tried using more product and tried using it mixed with foundation, without, all over my face, only on some parts, and no matter how I used it I didn't like it used like that. When used with a fuller coverage foundation you couldn't see the highlighter, which kind of defeated the point of using it. When used with a lighter to more medium coverage foundation, I found it made my makeup last a shorter amount of time than usual and I just didn't like how it made my skin look.

I did really like this used as a highlighter after my foundation, though. Once blended out, it looks very subtle, and makes my skin look glowy and fresh. I got sent the shade 01 Sparkling Love. It looks very gold in the bottle, but once applied it's a gorgeous champagne colour. It looks good used by itself, but I've also tried using it with a powder highlighter on top when I want extra shine. I found powder highlighter sits nicely on top of it and sets it well.

I don't like the packaging of this and find the dropper applicator more annoying than anything. I think the dropper works when applying as a base, but I don't trust using it straight on my face when using it just on a specific area. I apply it first on the back of my hand, then use a sponge to blend it onto my face.

Love the effect, not the formula

the colour of this is beautiful and does give you a nice highlight glow.

However the formula, when i tried to blend into my skin, it started to pull off the makeup underneath. it started to "gum up" and rather than blend in cause little flakes of foundation and highlighter.

Also the bottle, the dropper is huge and gives you WAY to much product, so wouldn't recommend dropping straight onto face, put onto hand then apply so you can control product better.

GORGEOUS product, but my skin reacted to it

I got LÓreal Paris Wake Up and Glow Mon Amour Highlighting Drops in the '01 Sparkling Love' shade. My review is a bit of a mixed bag in that I really loved this product and wanted to keep using it, but for some reason my skin reacted to it.

These highlighting drops are attractively packaged in a small, see-through glass bottle, with a rose gold lid and white drop applicator. It looks luxurious and sparkles inside the see-through glass bottle.

The dropper is a bit unusual in that I assume it's meant to suck up the liquid and squeeze it out, but instead the liquid seems to stick to the dropper - perhaps because the formula is quite thick in texture. It doesn't come out of the dropper as cleanly as it appears to in the picture above. Not a biggie, but the dropper just doesn't seem to act as a dropper should so perhaps a wee bit of a design flaw there. I ended up kind of 'dabbing' a few of the drops on to my finger tips rather than attempting to squeeze the liquid out of the dropper. You only need to use a few drops at a time, particularly if you use it solely as a highlighter. A little seems to go a long way, so it's economical.

It's also a versatile product. You can use it purely as a highlighter, you can mix it in with your foundation, apply it after your foundation or even use it as a primer. If your skin is reasonably blemish-free and even-toned, you could even get away with using it INSTEAD of foundation. I guess it depends on how much coverage you need and what skin issues you may or may not have. It's up to you how you use this product. It's definitely a multi-tasker. I chose to use a few of these drops over the top of foundation. I blended it in evenly and it made my skin glow and took away any dullness instantly. WOW!! My skin looked luminous, it sparkled and I felt younger, like a Queen ...for about 5 minutes...until the stinging sensation started to occur.

Unfortunately my skin reacted to these drops, which was a shame as I really did love how this product looked once applied. It made my skin sparkle and glow and was the perfect way to counteract any dullness. The stinging sensation increased so I had to get the makeup remover out pretty quickly. I don't have overly sensitive skin and hardly ever react to makeup products, so it really was disappointing and if I hadn't had a reaction, I'd probably still have those lovely luminous drops on now!

This product is a great way to get your glow on because it makes your skin look radiant, dewy and gorgeous. But I obviously can't personally use it. That's not to say you shouldn't. Everybody's skin is different and just because I had a reaction doesn't mean you will. It definitely does what it claims to do and gives your skin a healthy, radiant glow. So I can't criticise it at all in that regard, I can only say that it's not for my skin.

Tips: A little goes a long way, a few drops at a time is probably all you need, particularly if you're only using it as a highlighter.

Sparkle sparkle

These highlighting drops come in a glass bottle with a pretty rose gold lid and white dropper. Not too sure of the purpose of the dropper as the highlighting liquid is overflowing in the bottle and all up the sides of the dropper. All I needed to do was put the tip of the dropper on my cheekbones and I had more than enough product to work with ... I wouldn't dare squeeze the dropper! Putting the dropper back into the bottle it pushes all the highlighting liquid up and I was worried it would overflow but thankfully it didn't.

I trialed 01 Sparkling Love and it sparkled and I loved it. The end result was so subtly sparkly - it did exactly what a highlighter should and I was very impressed. I imagine the bottle would last a very long time cause you only need to use the tiniest amount which makes it great value for money.

I use a powder mineral foundation most days so I would tap it on my cheekbones after applying my foundation. But on the days I use my tinted moisturiser I would mix the two together for a lovely glowing end result. I am slightly addicted to having a shimmer now.

I have quite sensitive skin that can feel like its on fire with some products but not this one ... my skin didn't react at all and if not for the beautiful metallic shimmer I wouldn't have known I was wearing it.

Tips: Blend with a brush or beauty blender instead of fingers otherwise it will end up everywhere you touch and not just where you want it to highlight. Peel back the label on the back of the bottle for instructions on how to use plus there are many useful YouTube videos to watch which was great for me as I had not used a highlighter before.

L'Oreal Paris Wake Up and Glow Mon Amour Highlight

I was lucky to get on the Beauty Review trial for these Highlighting drops. The glass bottle is quite cute. Fits in the palm of my hand. It has a shiny, rose gold top with a white grip tip, which looks like an ink dropper. (Sounds weird, but it looks cute.) You can see the highlighting drops liquid through the tiny glass bottle. It looks like shiny, nail polish liquid in a pale, light colour that glistens. The shade is 01 Sparkling Love and there's 15ml of Glow Mon Amour in the little bottle.

The lid is easy to twist off and when you do so, the ink dropper is covered in the highlighter drops which has a similar consistency and look to nail polish. It has a slight fragrance which is pleasant. It's not too strong, it's a subtle scent. I tested this out on my hand first by squeezing the dropper tip and then swatched it on my hand. It came out as a 'drop' then I rubbed it across my skin on my hand. The swatch looked a shiny, pearl-like colour. I have olive toned skin so this shade was lighter when applied to my skin but once it's rubbed it, it does highlight. It is Metallic and when I moved my hand, I could see it shimmering. I rubbed it in more and it blended in good with my skin.

I first tried this as part of my morning make up routine. After I washed my face and moisturised I applied Glow Mon Amour.

The dropper tip is easy to use. A few drops on different areas of my face was enough. You don't need a lot. Just highlight areas where the light hits your face naturally. The drops are cool to the touch when they drop onto your skin. I used my blender sponge to dab it in. It absorbed into my skin and I could see it was metallic and shimmery. After that, I applied a light coat of light Thin Lizzy 6-in-1 mineral powder all over my face lightly. Areas of my cheekbones, nose, chin and on the side of my forehead were highlighted and looked glowy. When I looked in the mirror and tilted my face in different directions. I could see Glow Mon Amour luminating parts of my face.

The next couple of days, I tried these highlighter drops, doing the same in my makeup routine each morning. During the day, I got compliments from my family that I was 'glowing'. I like the glow look it gives although, I probably won't be using Glow Mon Amour every day. I would recommend using these if you're having date night or Girl's night or got an event to get glammed up for or, if you like to put on full make up every day. They do make your skin glow though. I would say, less is more and one bottle would probably last awhile.

I will be continuing to use Glow Mon Amour and see how it goes until this product is empty. I don't think I would purchase myself as I'm more of a moisturiser and powder foundation gal but I will be recommending to my friends who are into face highlighters.

Packs a punch

Wow! Turn on your high beams, ladies, this highlighter is not messing around. Highly pigmented and very glittery, a little goes a VERY long way.

For my first application I used it under a full face of foundation - I used a full drop swept mostly over my cheekbones and a little on my forehead, cupids bow, and nose and then applied my foundation over top - and it was still quite a punchy highlighter look. The rest of my applications were with a much lighter hand - just a tiny, tiny little brush of product on the same places and that worked nicely for a more subtle no-makeup look.

I'm not quite sure what they were thinking with the packaging - the dropper is very unnecessary, as you get more than enough product (and then some) on the outside of the dropper. Trying to apply drops without just getting the product that's clinging to the dropper everywhere seems pretty unlikely, not to mention that I don't think I'd ever want to use that much. There's also a big white sticker on the back of the label with a little 'peel here' arrow, but if you peel it then it never quite sticks back down properly, but if you try to take it off it unwinds to take the whole label off the entire bottle, leaving a tacky mess behind. Small details, but they did slightly cheapen the overall feel of the product.

It definitely requires a bit of care if you're wanting subtlety, but overall I'm very impressed with the product quality, blendability, and staying power. I'll definitely be using this regularly going forward.
