Not that great

I re-dyed my hair about a week ago using this dye and i was quite disappointed! It didn't turn out like the colour on the box and my regrowth, which wasn't very dark, turned slightly ginger. I was going for a dark blonde and it turned almost grey.

Not soft or shiny

I was incredibly disapointed with Garnier Olia. When I colour my hair at home, I normally only use a long-lasting semi-permanent like L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss, which I have nothing but praise for and leaves my hair looking great. I decided to give Garnier Olia a try because I was looking at going red, and unfortunately the usual doesn't have a wide colour selection.

Firstly, I found it a lot harder to apply Olia. I applied in sections as I normally would, and then I would normally massage the colour in so that I know it's even, but I had a lot of trouble doing this with Olia.

I waited the required time then went to rinse. You're supposed to add a little water then massage in, my hair didn't want to massage! I rinsed and applied the conditioner, which was nothing to write home about and I probably wouldn't use again.

After my hair was dry I could see what the colour looked like. I had brown hair and used Intense Red, so according to the box I should have a resulting all-over dark reddy-brown. Instead my hair has a faint tinge of red to it but that's about it. Also, it looks very dull and feels incredibly dry, not at all what I would be expecting from a product that states 'soft and shiny'.

I wouldn't use this again, and will probably be re-colouring my hair with another brand in a couple of weeks.

Tips: If you do use this, I would make sure you have a good colour protecting conditioner to try and stop your colour from fading.

No colour change

My hair is naturally brown but for the past year and a half I had blonde, then ombre hair (mainly because going to the hairdressers for a top-up every 4 weeks was too expensive). I tried the Olia in dark blonde and it changed the colour of my hair slightly, but not really noticeable. After a couple of washes it was all gone though as if it washed out. This is quite an expensive product compared to the others and I was quite disappointed to see it didn't last. The application was great though, it didn't burn or irritate me (not that it should) and there were no sharp smells.

Garnier Olia

I bought this one month before before last (second to last dye), as I went to buy my Salon Live Oleo but my shade had sold out. I bought this one because my usual one is also oil based, and I noticed a change in my hair since switching from regular dye- much softer and silkier and the colour is shinier. Now while I will still apply the softer, silkier, shinier to this, is also burnt my scalp to oblivion. That happened when I used a regular Garnier dye a couple of years ago, so maybe my skin just does not like whatever Garnier use, but man did this burn! I had a weeping sores on my head. Ugh. That never happens with my salon Live Oleo, just that one time I used this, and a couple of years ago- again, regular Garnier. I gave this a three on "Did it do what it said it would?" because as I said, the oil based dyes really do make your hair a lot nicer, but my hair feels better after my regular dye and it leaves me sans chemical burns- which I always find a plus when I'm purchasing products! My other dye also had a richer, more intense colour, which I prefer, it's easier to brush and the finish is just nicer. I do feel I should point out a couple of plus factors about this and other about oil based dyes, is they don't stink or leave that gross smell in your hair. Much more pleasant than regular dye. I also really liked that this came with a massive applicator bottle. It's super easy to mix up and use. It's a shame my skin doesn't like it.

Tips: Wash this out as soon as you feel that slight itching. It leads to a sting, which leads to a burn, which leads to an ugly weeping sore. Do not, I repeat DO NOT brush your hair or apply product after developing said sore, because it friggin' hurts.

Didn't match the box.

I used the red dye in the range and used it to touch up the fading and regrowth on my hair, which was already coloured red. The dye made my hair appear to be a more washed out red, and I just really didn't like the colour. It doesn't fade easily though, three months later and my hair is still quite red, so it is relatively long-lasting. It doesn't wash out as much as other reds do, I didn't find any red dye washing down the shower drain as much as I normally do.

Tips: Don't use the conditioner that comes with it all at once, as you will need it to stop the colour from washing down the drain every time you shower.

Not the longest lasting colour....

An ammonia free hair colour has great appeal. This hair colour does have a very pleasant smell, and the application is easy. The colour after the first wash was lovely, but with this hair colour I found it washed out and faded within a few weeks, and my greys lightened the most. While the greys didn't look grey as such they were distinctively lighter than the rest of my hair, so I felt they were really noticeable as if I hadn't coloured at all.

My hair was lovely and soft after colouring, and my hair didn't feel dry or frizzy, but I've used other Semi-permanents that held the colour better than this product. Not the colouring product for me unfortunately.

Smells amazing

This product made my hair look and feel amazing immediately post-application. There was a great gloss and shine, and it was really soft and silky.

The dye doesn't have the harsh ammonia scent that some do (I dye my hair a lot and so can definitely say this with certainty) and Garnier have really thought about making a product that leaves hair in good condition.

However, I felt that the colour didn't last long enough compared to other products in the Garnier range and so would be less inclined to use it again until this is addressed, but for people without the greying issue I have it would be a great product to refresh and change up your hair.

The colour range is certainly diverse enough that everyone can find a colour they are keen on, and the product has real potential - but simply didn't work for me.

Olia - great idea but not for me

I was really excited to try Olia - I'm a longtime Loreal Castings user and liked the concept of more oils and extracts. My hair didn't approve, sadly. The colour wasn't anywhere near as vibrant as promised (all instructions and colour matches were followed!) and it gave me the frizzies after a week or so. Positives - it smells, great, feels great when first done, and would be great if you have light hair/just wanted greys covered.

Garnier olia 9.0 light blonde

Was not impressed with this product - maximum colour performance - I disagree.. although 9.0 is not my usual colour (I use 10.1 but was sent 9.0) it was very "brassy" . It is definitely hard to find the right blonde.. and all hair colours differently, I would possibly try it one more time to see the outcome with more regrowth. - 100% grey coverage - I don't have any greys so can't comment. - visibly Improves hair quality - as I only died 1cm of regrowth it was hard to tell. My hair did feel silkier after. -optimal scalp comfort - I expected to not get the itch or burn that other hair dyes with ammonia do however I still found this to irritate, it didn't have as strong a smell as others though. The fragrance was nice although I prefer the normal Garnier smell.

I would probably try it one more time to see if I can get the desired colour.

Tips: 1 pack is good for re growth - covers around 10-15cm of hair depending how thick so if doing a full colour Atleast 2 boxes would be needed for a full proper coverage

Garnier Olia Dark Blonde

I was excited to trial this product as I have seen it at the supermarket and was attracted to the packaging and liked that it was ammonia free however I tend to stick with brands that I have used before so had not tried it until now. Dark blonde is the shade that I usually colour my hair and Garnier Olia dark blonde came out the colour that I was expecting. I also liked that there was no harsh smell like many other hair dyes.

I found the box stand idea to be fiddly and in the end I just put the mix up container on the basin bench and I disliked that you had to combine the two colour mixes in a separate container (the home dyes I have used in the past you add one mix to the other) so I felt like this was an extra unneeded step which took more time. Although the applicator container looked really nice I found it hard to grip and it had a sharp part on the nozzle which made it more difficult to apply although the sharp part could have been down to bad luck when I snapped off the seal. I also found the gloves to be on the smaller size, great if you have small hands but if you have big hands like me not ideal.

The colour was quite runny but I did find that it went on quite well (other than the container issues) but if you had long hair you would defiantly need two packets as I have just below shoulder length fine hair and used all of the product up. It didn't cover a couple of grey hairs that I have but to be fair they are quite stubborn and the last hair dye also missed them.

The conditioner was ok. I used quite a bit of it, more than what they suggested but felt like my hair needed the extra. I liked how they provide enough conditioner for a few uses.

For the price I wouldn't use this product again but maybe I would be tempted if it was on sale. Overall it did an ok job, it coloured my hair the shade that I was after but I found it to be more difficult to mix and use than other hair dyes that I have used in the past.

Tips: If you have long or thick hair use two boxes. Don't worry about using the box stand, much more useful to use the box for the empty containers and gloves when you are done with them.
