Oil be gone!

This shampoo did a great job of combating my oily roots.

With my normal shampoo and conditioner I wash my hair every second day, but on my no-wash days I sometimes need to top up with a bit of dry shampoo in the morning, and I ALWAYS need dry shampoo if I'm going out in the evening of my no-wash day. With the Extraordinary Clay shampoo I found that I never needed dry shampoo on that second day, so it's a big win for me there.

I have to say I don't love how much the scent lingers. It's not an awful scent, in fact I kind of like it, but I strongly prefer hair products that don't leave a scent in my hair at all and this range definitely leaves a fairly strong and persistent smell, which is somewhat 'chemical' ish.

It's quite foamy so I use probably half the amount as I would of normal shampoo (or quarter of the amount if I'm using it after the mask from the same range). My only complaint is that it's far too harsh for my tips and the conditioner from the range just doesn't do enough to counter that. On day 2 my tips start getting dry and angry, and if I use dry shampoo to stretch things out to day 3 then my tips are a gnarled mess.

However, I like this shampoo enough that I'm probably going to shop around to see if I can find a better conditioner or treatment to pair with it and hopefully counteract the effects, and if I do then I'll definitely repurchase.

What's not to love?

I love L'Oreal as a brand, but I must admit I was a bit skeptical about a 'clay' shampoo. Would it be chalky? Would it be drying?

The shampoo (super cute packaging by the way!) is like the Goldilocks of shampoo - not too thick, not too thin. It smells so fresh, like there's not a particularly scent, it's just fresh smelling - maybe a bit 'clinical'.

It doesn't lather up too much, which I like, I hate foamy shampoos.

My hair felt nice in that period of time between rinsing and applying conditioner. Usually it feels quite tangled and straw-like, with this it just felt like wet hair.

So, by itself, a really nice, affordable shampoo that does the job of a shampoo.

Tips: I never bother with shampooing twice, and with this one you really don't need to.

Strip Shampoo

I call this particular Shampoo of the L'Oreal Elvive Clay Range the Strip Shampoo. Why? In using this very product i found the results disappointing. I felt that my hair was complete stripped to the point where my hair felt hard. My scalp also felt dry even though i'd just washed the product off. On the packaging, it said that it will leave your hair feeling fresh and clean for 72 hrs, however, it really didn't. Try 48 hrs, where my head started to get that itch where you know you have to wash your head because that freshness, that cleanliness is gone. I had to dry shampoo the heck out of my head just to get through the day. This shampoo was not suited for my scalp and hair.

An awesome shampoo

I was fortunate to be apart of the beauty team trial for this product. I really love the shampoo, you don't need to apply a lot as this lathers up sooooooooo much. Smells awesome and leaves my hair feeling nice and clean afterwards. I can defiantly see this shampoo becoming my go to. Easily one of the best supermarket shampoos I've tried. Works really well with the conditioner to give you shiny, healthy hair!

Very promising

I received this from BR to review along with the conditioner, preshampoo mask, and dry shampoo. They're all in really nice looking packaging, and I really like the light green colour.

The shampoo smells divine, which instantly made me like it more. It lathers up well to create heaps of foam, and only a $2 coin size dollop is enough for my whole head (although I do have shoulder length hair right now). It's easy to rinse off, but I feel like it feels a little too 'oil stripping' if that's possible. If you've ever tried washing your hair with bar soap (terrible idea), you'll know that super gritty, lost all oils kind of feel. Well after rinsing this off, my hair felt a little like that. Almost as if it's done its job a little too well. After I used the conditioner though my hair felt back to normal again so maybe you have to use the two products in conjunction. I did notice that my hair feels much lighter straight after, and it looks very shiny.

It's been a bit over a week and I feel like my hair is already improving. I've been quite active this week so I expected my scalp to get oily quickly, but it's averaging about three days before it's unbearable and I have to rewash my hair. Normally if I wash every second day, I can easily pass off with fresh looking hair.

Lovely scent

I really enjoyed trialling this shampoo. The fragrance was beautiful and fresh. It lathered very well, which meant I only had to shampoo once, rather than my normal twice shampooing technique. I didn't notice any magic change regarding my day two oily roots, but the product was a lovely shampoo and did a good job cleansing my hair.

Not for me...

I always feel bad when I place a bad review or even a slightly below average review. I have tried this product and I keep trying to see if it will get better but for my hair it just didnt do anything for me. I have natural hair on the top and bleach blionde ends.... think ombre but really grown out. I get oily roots when it is close to wash day and I wash my hair twice a week.

Using this product in the shower (obviously hahaaha), I like how it sat with the tops down which would mean the product would be easy to get that last little bit out (big plus). It has a pleasant clean smell (I am more of a OMG fruit or OMG sweet tasty wonder smell fan myself). It foams up and seemed to wash out easily. I did not need to do my usual two sampoo wash. But after conditioning and then drying my hair it felt heavier? It felt weird, something was off and I have no idea what it was.

It did remove the oil but it left my hair feeling bla. I do not need help feeling bla! By day 3 my hair was oily and gross perhaps more than usual. I think this really didnt agree with my hair type.

I did give it a good try and it did do what it said it would. It just also made my hair heavier and feel weird.

Tips: Try it for yourself to see if it suits your hair type better

LOVE THIS

This shampoo is my holy grail! I have very oily roots and dry ends. I find this shampoo really combats the oily roots and the feeling of it on my hair during my shower is heavenly. I have heard some complaints about the smell of it but I don't mind it. I love this!

Tips: Use with the other products in the range!

For when your hair is having an oily day...

My hair has been getting oily roots recently, so I decided to give this shampoo a go after hearing about it here on BR.

The shampoo is packaged like the others in the Elvive range. And the white shampoo inside the bottle doesn't look much different to their other shampoos. Being a clay shampoo, I expected something thicker than standard shampoo. Scentwise however, I reckon it has a similar scent to other products in the clay range - not that it actually smells like clay.

In terms of effect, the shampoo does feel like like it's taking the oil out of your hair. After washing it out, my hair had a squeaky clean feel, and I sometimes got an extra day before needing to wash it again. But although it said it was for dry ends too, I didn't really find it great for those. I found it best to stick to a hydrating product for those.

Because my hair doesn't get oily (except for the roots from time to time) and because I stuck with a conditoner that hydrated the rest of my hair, I don't think I saw the effects as much as someone who has oily hair who uses both the shampoo and conditioner. But it did pull my roots out of their oily funk, and give me back my normal hair (which is more dry than oily). So this product is a great pick me up for people who are having an oily moment too.
