From disappointed... to quite pleased.

I got this because BR had a trial on it (I missed out). It made me really excited. I had ombre' hair before using this product.

I chose 3.16 Deep violet. I mixed the product as per instructions. My mum applied the product for me. Her first comment when applying the product was "wow, this smells DELISH!" there was so harsh chemical smell, it smelled lovely and fruity/flowery. I had to agree. It smells so good and different to normal hair dyes.

Once it was all applied I waited 30 minutes and went to wash it out. The conditioner is so lovely and thick and has I nice smell. It's also a generous 54ml which was awesome.

After drying my hair, I was really disappointed to see that my hair had no resemblance whatsoever to what was depicted on the box. The darker shades of my hair are now a reddish colour, with a TINY hint of violet. The lighter ends of my hair are now a light reddish brown. I'm really disappointed as my hair colour is nothing like what I expected. My mum brought herself a kit in the same shade, and after seeing how my hair turned out, she gave her kit to me, so I will try it again, and hopefully have better results.

UPDATE: I have since coloured my hair again. This time I left the colour in my hair for an hour. Once again it made my hair lovely and soft and shiny. The colour is more darker and you can definitely see a dark reddish - violet colour to it.. which is really noticeable in the sun or under light.

Tips: My tip would be to leave it in for as long as possible.

did you color your hair again with the one your mum gave you? did it turn out any better?

Only the ends of my hair were dyed/bleached. The rest is virgin hair. The colour indicated on the box showed a lovely subtle dark violet/purple but mine came out red. Even though it didn't turn out how it should have, I'm ok with the colour.

It may have been reacting to the already dyed hair. You have to remember, the colours that they show you on the box are meant to show the colour applied to virgin/one tone hair. It's like the old saying, if you dye your hair too much it'll turn green

Deep Violet

So I received my colour today and was so excited I used it straight away :)

Firstly, when I opened the box, I thought the packaging was very stylish. It's a lot better looking than other brands out there. I liked it a lot. The second thing I noticed while mixing the product was that it didn't have that foul chemical smell. It was a pleasant floral smell. So I wasnt getting gas out while applying the product to my hair. That is a huge thing for me. It actually made the whole experience of colouring my hair enjoyable. It's normally something I hate to do! While the colour was developing, the dye got really dark which gave me high hopes for the end result. I normally just colour my hair dark brown (I haven't in almost a year because I wanted to give my hair a break) so thought I would switch it up and try something different. However, once I washed it out after the 30mins and let it dry naturally, I was quite disappointed in the colour. It wasn't the intense vibrant violet I was expecting. It's a nice dark colour, and you can see the violet in the light, just not what I was expecting. However, I do have longish hair and maybe if I use two boxes instead of trying to portion one box for all my hair, it would if been different. I'm going to try that next time with the same colour to see if it makes a different. The product is good though, and will definitely be using it again :)

Tips: If you have long hair, definitely use two boxes. It sucks having to try and ration out one box on long hair and also apply something along your hair line to stop it from staining your skin, just make sure you don't get any on your hair :)

Beautiful Iced Chocolate Colour

I brought this colour from the local supermarket based on its price. For a hair colour this is very reasonably priced and the Garnier brand is a well known and trusted brand.

I found the colour was easy to apply and found that it covered all of those horrible greys. The box contained all the instructions on how to apply and were really easy to follow. The colour had a beautiful depth to it and it left my hair really glossy and soft. I found that the colour lasted well until my next colour which was six weeks later and then when I washed my colour in the following weeks after colouring that there wasn't a lot of wash out colour. The after conditioner smells devine and left my hair feeling soft and nourished. I continued to use the after shampoo once a week when washing and it lasted me around five weeks.

Tips: Definitely recommend this product. Awesome price point and easy to use.

Fantasic product

I have only recently started to dye my own hair at home again after years of getting it done at a salon but with 3 young children getting to a salon is almost impossible. It was great to try this home dye and I absolutely loved. No aweful smell like some dyes and my hair felt amazing. The colour was very natural looking and I love that the conditioner lasts a few washes which I think is fantastic. I would definetely use this again, the iced chocolate colour is lovely.

Really soft!

I was selected to trial the Garnier Olia. A bit of a background first.... I used to be a salon snob hands down! We moved about 6 months ago and I haven't found a new hairdresser yet. So my hair needs a cut!

I have dark brown hair, with lots of blond streaks that are growing out. My hair is below my shoulders & above bra fastening length.

Unfortunately all the the Garnier branded products I have tried I reacted to some way or another. I looked at the colours on this, it says it's will make hair soft so I had nothing to loose.

So the courier bag arrived. I opened it up to find a large box. There were a lot of rattles. Uh oh I was ready for the worst.. It was all ok. I would suggest the packaging does need to be looked at.

The box was nice looking. Inside was this crazy looking empty bottle and a few other bits and pieces. I read the instructions and it says to do the allergy test. I didn't bother as I knew I'd react.

The instructions showed how to pull a hole of of the box, then you sit the empty bottle in the hole to add the other products. How cool!! The hole bit tore the rest of the box. Oh well. So I sit the empty bottle in, as shown by the instructions and it doesn't work. Love the idea if it was made correctly. Anyway I mixed up the colour. Off to the bathroom I trotted. I put the gloves on (they have a texture inside to help keep them on) I always use a comb when applying colour as it then covers all the hairs. I sectioned my hair, but as soon as the product touched my hair it went in a hard clump. There was no way I could get a brush or comb through it. So I kept going. Wow! I love the smell! It's fruity! Really nice! Very pleasant surprise. The bottle that you use, has a super skinny long tip. It's very handy, as I was running out, I tipped it upside down and it sat easily in the plug hole. Really liked this. It means all the product can drop down to the tip to apply it all.

I noticed the colour changing right away on my head. It was bright orange! You only need to let this stay on for 30 minutes. I washed it off (with farmer hubby's help) then used the provided conditioner. My hair was a lot more manageable now. I washed off and dried it.

So results, shiny shiny hair! Soft and has a red tinge with some orangy bits. It was evening so I wanted to see what the colour would be like in the day light.

Next morning, I used my normal shampoo & conditioner (made gentle for coloured hair) there was a wee bit of colour wash out which I expected. My hair was still so soft. The colour isn't a "intense red" I need to have two boxes of colour. Apply one then the next one the next day or a few days later. I say this as I can see where my hair clumped that I found it almost impossible to apply colour.

I reacted slightly as expected. I had antihistamine before applying and also 2 that evening to help keep the reaction down.

I will buy this again this week as I do need the second box for colour.

Tips: Due to the formula, I highly recommend getting a friend to help apply if you have long hair

Garnier Olia - Purple

I was looking forward to this trial. I had picked the purple for something out there and different. As I have darker brown hair I was wondering how well it would turn out and I was a bit disappointed. According to the colour shades of how it would work on the side of the box it would work great and be nice and bright, vibrant, stand out etc. and that is not the case. It could be my hair maybe but you can hardly tell I have it in. It more darkened my hair. You can see it under light/sunlight etc. which looks nice so it seems like a part time hair colour. The was true in that there is no smell (ammonia free) which was great as my husband hates the smell so colouring my hair is usually fun lol. I do think it is a great idea, I will probably give it another try maybe with another colour and see how it goes. The first impression just didn't have me screaming from the rooftops.

Tips: Really looks at the current shade of your hair against the colour selection on the side of the box and make yours probably a shade darker.

Pleasantly Suprised!!!

I trialed Garnier Olia Hair Colour in shade 9.0 Light Blonde. When the packaged first arrived i thought it was a relatively big box compared to other brands, inside were 3 tubes, developer, colour cream and silk and shine conditioner along with an application bottle, the bottle was quite large with a sleek tear drop shape. While mixing the colour cream and developer i drastically noticed the difference in smells form other hair dyes, there were absolutely no harsh chemical smells or anything. upon applying the mixture the consistency was quite thick but it applied really well, spreading nicely through the roots of my hair. I had no tingling sensation on my scalp and no stinging eyes while the dye was on my head at all, i had a bit of pink colour left through my hair and i didnt expect it to lift very well but after applying i literally watched it disappear infront of my eyes!!! i left the colour on for an hour in total as i have quite stubborn roots. The mixture was easy to wash out and the conditioner had great coverage, i was able to get another two-three applications out of the tube. After drying my hair i was absolutely blown away!! There was not one single trace of pink left in my hair and my roots had were pretty much the same colour as the rest of my hair, which was the exact colour i was wanting, no brassy tones, no yellow nothing!! I could not believe it, i am so so super happy with this product, it will deff be my go to at home hair dye from now on! My hair is noticeably healthier, its shiny and the ends feel amazing. A great suprise considering i have always been so hesitant to try this dye! Go Garnier!!

I forgot to add that the one downfall i did find was with the shape of the applicator bottle, whilst it looked great, while i was colouring my hair i had a few moments of finding it hard to hold a steady grip of the bottle due to the tear drop shape.

Great Hair Dye for at Home

I tried this one out in the Dark Brown and I have to say it was a rich, vibrant colour and I was very happy with the results. The smell wasn't over-powering and it was extremely easy to use on my own. BUT I am a salon kind of girl. If I ever get to the financial status in which I need to use an at home brand, this would be the one.

Brilliant Coverage

So let's start at the beginning.. I am a massive salon junkie.. so when I was selected for the trial, I was a little bit hesitant (and so was my hairdresser) with testing out the product.

I selected the Light Blonde shade, as it was quite similar to what my hair had been coloured previously - and it was going to hopefully match up to my roots pretty well to help keep my current salon hair a little longer. There is a massive colour selection with the Garnier Olia range - I was incredibly impressed, and if I wasn't so stubborn with keeping my hair as blonde as possible (so much hard work and money gone into it!), then I would of definitely tried a red or purple out!

The packaging is quite nice, when mine arrived it was a little damaged.. but let's put this down to my lovely neighbourhood courier not being the gentlest of folk. It did mean I didn't get to try out the awesome box holder kit thing at the back of the box.. but thats alright I guess!

Inside the packet there was several items - first being the mixer bottle which was an awesome tear drop shape, second was the developer which looked huge in comparison to most developers in supermarket dyes, next was a colour tube (cant remember what it's exactly called), and then there was conditioner, gloves (these were the best gloves ever!) and instructions.

So obviously I got to mixing. It was pretty self explanatory, even though I did read the instructions in case it was slightly different than to what I had been used to in previous dyes I used before becoming a salon junkie. Mix the colour and developer in the mixer and shake. I shook like a mad woman! The product smelled amazing, really fruity and sweet. Wasn't overpowering or caused my eyes to water.

Application was easy, the applicator was relatively easy to use - it was a little awkward at first because of the bottle shape and the amount of dye I got over the gloves which cause it to slip.. but I got a thick, even coverage over my hair. It did feel a little hard and dry compared to other dyes.

When developing, I did get a little freaked out as the roots were going orange - but it wasn't that bad when washed out. I went for 10 minutes on the roots and 25 minutes on the ends. Because I had a half head of foils recently, I was a little concerned it was going to be patchy and uneven but it covered it all and came out with a nice, even, warm blonde tone.

The conditioner was awesome, it made my hair extremely soft and touchable. Like I was severely impressed with it. Soft and silky hair! Especially after dying.

Garnier Olia is a great product, I'm happy that I got to trial it out and can't wait to use it more often inbetween salon visits to touch up my roots and to make my hair a little bit more cost effective!

Silky smooth hair

I have quite damaged hair from years of mistreating it, and because of bleaching and not being able to get my natural colour back I find myself dying over it way too often. When I was given the opportunity to review this product, of course I took the offer up and chose red because I know that is a colour that suits me. I was quite hesitant on putting something that used oils into my hair instead of ammonia. I knew that it would be better for my hair, but it also seemed like it would make my hair look greasy. I was very happily surprised when my hair didn't look greasy, it just looked incredibly shiny and felt very soft. The dye made my hair very easy to manage and smelled amazing and fruity. The container you use the dye in itself is a great shape to use yourself while wearing gloves, it helps with stopping the bottle from slipping out of your hand. The box also has a handy pop out part in the back so you can sit the container in it while mixing the colour to stop it from tipping. I would definitely go with this range again for permanent home colouring.

Tips: Use Vaseline around your hairline to prevent staining to the skin, or use a baby wipe/make-up wipe to remove any that has gone on your face, ears, and neck straight after putting the dye in.
