Nice but not great at covering greys

I enjoyed using this product, but don't think I would again. The reason for this is that it didn't lighten my hair to the colour on the box, and didn't sufficiently cover my greys.

I can't really complain about either of those things though, because the product (1021 Very Light Pearl Blonde) did say that the result will depend on your natural hair colour (mine is quite dark ash blonde) and also says 'if you have a lot of grey hair this shade will not completely cover all grey'.

So in that respect, the product did do exactly what it said it would! It lightened my hair and provided some grey coverage, but just not quite as much as I would have liked it to do either of those things!

The things I did enjoy were the ease of use (simple instructions and a no-mess non-drip formula), the Nutri-Shine conditioner (nice smell and good conditioning properties) and the fact that there is no ammonia in the product. I did feel that the colour of my hair was nice and subtle, looking blonder but not noticeably dyed, which was a bonus as I'm not a fan of the really harsh peroxide blonde look.

In summary, I would recommend this product to a friend if they had naturally lighter hair than me or less greys, but probably not to a friend with hair like mine.

Tips: If your hair is any longer than around shoulder-length, or is very thick, you will probably need two packs to ensure full coverage.

There is plenty of conditioner so you can keep this and use for at least 2-3 conditioning treatments to keep your hair soft and shiny - a nice addition for light blonde shades which are often quite drying.

L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss

I received this product in a trial team in the shade 'Chocolate Chestnut 515'.

I really like this hair dye, the first thing I noticed was that unlike other hair dyes this one did not have a nasty chemical smell. Applying the product with the applicator bottle made it super easy and a quick process. I was impressed that it came out true to colour and the colour looked glossy and amazing, it really suits my hair. Just after one wash, my hair felt so soft and looked shiny. The only small let down for me would have to be that the gloves that are in the box are really tiny & are a bit hard to put on. Overall, I would still recommend this product to anyone who is needing a quick touch up :-)

Tips: You might need to buy bigger gloves

Loreal Casting Creme Gloss - Chestnut Brown

Package is average, although I did appreciate how easy it was to squeeze the content of the colouring tube into the main bottle for mixing. The fact that it was plastic instead of a semi-metal or foil, it was easier to squeeze without force. Being a creme definitely made the whole process less messy. The consistency was great as it was easy to mix, spread evenly, and massage into head without worrying about drips. The smell of the colouring mixture was subtle which is a plus for me. I have always hated the strong smell of ammonia that seemed to linger even after washing and conditioner. The conditioner smells good too although can be a bit overpowering. I am not sure if it was just me havent done home colouring for a long time, but I have noticed the size/content of the conditioner have increased. I was able to use the conditioner for 5 days!

I definitely admired the effect of the conditioner on my hair. It had definitely given it the "super glossy shine". My hair felt soft straight after use.

Now the only negative thing I found about this product, it didnt give me the colour it says it would even after almost two weeks. I have dark brown/black hair and I still can't see any colour change. Maybe it just need few more washes or I have the wrong base colour to begin with? who knows! Either way, it gave my already dark hair that glossy shine.

Tips: chestnut brown would be better use by someone with lighter natural coloured hair who wants to go a little dark.

Not bad for the price, great shine

This is a really good product for its price - colour representation is accurate and the end result is glossy and rich colour. The depth does fade after a wash or two which is quite quick but not at all bad for what it's worth. Would use this again for a quick touch up or last minute need.

Packaging is good and the actual system is easy to follow and use. Good quality gloves too and plenty of product for mid-length hair.

made my hair feel healthy

Used this the other day. My hair is naturally black but I had blonde highlights in it. The dye coloured the highlights beautifully but my natural hair was still black with a bit of a red sheen.

My hair felt healthy after dying it and since my hair is normally very dry and damaged, it was a good product to use in my hair.

Tips: Not for black hair unless you want a tint

Get your shine on!

I have recieved this product in the colour 412 Iced Cocoa which is a lovely cool dark brown.

The packaging is a different shape to the usual boxed dyes the two top sides fold in which I think looks really cool.

The dye does not have ammonia and is a temporary hair dye meaning it does less damage than a usual hair dye.

The box came with gloves which were soooo small! >.< The colourant, the developer and a conditioner.

The initial look at the dye was similar to many other dyes I have used however, pleasantly there wasn't the strong ammonia smell which is awesome the dye glided on the hair easily and gave okay coverage maybe not the best but that could be also down to application however, I doubt that because I always brush the hair through.

What I ended up doing with the product was I already have ombre-esque medium brown to purple hair so I wanted to dye the top part to make the purple pop! Which it definitely did.

After washing out my hair it was extremely soft and shiny which I absolutely loved.

In terms of colour it is as stated above a cool dark brown on the box however this product looks more of a medium chocolate brown. On the hair it looks a lot more dark.

The dark colour definitely will wash out and fade over time so that's not problem but if you are using this from a light hair to darker hair I would be warned that it is quite dark at least for the first wash.

The box says the dye will last up to 28 shampoos I am not sure about that as I have been going to the beach and I have already seen a bit of colour come out but that's fine because I like the current colour. Waiting to see how long the dye will last not that I am sure I will 100% know as I started with brown hair but will update this when I know.

Overall, do I think this is a good product? yes, is it the best product? no. However, for the price and for what it is I definitely recommend it especially because there aren't many or any other easily accessible products out there. I think if you're wanted to see what a colour will look like on you before you take the plunge this is an awesome product. Also I am going to purchase another one and dye my full head after I get a haircut

Also on a side note the black colour in this product is sold out at my work (The Warehouse) so someone is loving this product.

Happy hair days ladies x

L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss

This colour is easy to apply, the cream is thick enough that it doesn't run and make a mess. I wanted a natural looking colour so chose Chocolate for my mid brown hair which was a good choice, it looks natural and covered the few greys that I've got. Three weeks later the colour is just starting to fade after daily hair washing, I'm not sure that the conditioner helped the colour last but it did make my hair feel nice and lasted several washes on short hair. I like this product and will use it again, it gives a reasonably long lasting result without having to worry about regrowth or being stuck with a bad colour choice of permanent colours

28 washes

Great colours to choose from and the instructions are very simple to follow. All the bits in the box are numbered and you just follow the diagrams to apply the colour. I like that there was not a very strong smell when I applied the colour. I did find it a bit tricky to apply by myself as my hair is very long and I have not done this in a long time. I think the next time will be easier. I Rinsed my hair thoroughly and it only took about a minute for the water to run clear. I used the conditioner provided and dried my hair. I could see already my greys were gone. First night sleeping, no marks on my pillow case, that's always good. The next day my hair is the colour the box shows and very glossy.

I think the real test came after the first wash. The Loreal Casting Creme Gloss is only to last up to 28 washes. I was a little disappointed when after the first wash I could see my grey hair again, and that night I ruined my pillow case too :(

Back to Black

I was lucky enough to get placed on a trial team to review this product, and was so excited. I haven’t dyed my hair is so long its hard to remember when I last did it, but I chose the colour 100 Licorice, because I have some ginger parts of my hair from D.I.Y ombre attempts, and I wanted my hair to go back to black.

I quite like the design of the box, it’s simple but effective and give you all the details you need to know. I myself did not find using the box as a stand for the applicator bottle useful, but I’m sure for people other people would find it useful. I actually found the labelling on the applicator, developer and conditioner useless seeing as the product was labelled in 4 other languages, with English being the 5th on the list. This might sound like a small thing, but because I asked my mum to help me out with the back of my hair, I saw how people who were not that experienced with hair dye may get confused. I think it would be clever for L’Oreal to prioritise the English language label. The developer crème is a thin liquid which is white and slightly transparent (because it’s quite thin) and this mixed together easily with the cream colorant, and actually smelt quite pleasant compared to other hair dyes I have used, and application was a breeze. I was surprise that there was actually enough dye for a decent coverage over all my hair, and the applicator tip made it very easy to control how much product was getting released. The conditioner is white and quite thick, and I really like the smell of it. It smells kind of fresh, but I can’t put my finger on the actual scent.

Anyway, the results. After dying and conditioning my hair, well it looked pretty damn good. The ombre bits of my hair were completely concealed, which is amazing because I have wanted to cover those parts of my hair for ages. Additionally because I used this all over my hair, my hair got a boost, and had this healthy shine to it. After 10 or so washes, that healthy shine disappeared, and after about 15 washes I can see the hint of a ginger in the sunlight, but inside my hair still looks completely black so that’s good. So this is a good product, but would I use it again? Probably not as I would go permanent next time to cover those ginger spots once and for all. Additionally since I have dark hair, its hard to use any other colours that are available. However, I do think this would be an amazing product for those who want to freshen up their colour. Additionally, I like how the dye only needed to be left on hair for 20 minutes, and that it had no ammonia.

L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss

Choice: 1010 VERY LIGHT ICED BLONDE

I think making a colour choice over the internet might have been a little ambitious - I think this was slightly too light for me, however I'm pretty sure with some toning and fading it will look killer!

Firstly, the price for this DIY colour is damn good.

28 washes: I wash my hair about three times a week so this will last me a VERY good amount of time! Plus blonde doesn't really fade... I'll defo need to touch up my roots before that time is up tho!

I personally love that this product has no amonia in it. Not only was there no burning head, there were no tears haha.

The instructions with this colour are excellently simple and easy to follow. It does do what it says in the fact that its a nice thick texture and therefore no dripping messiness.

I always love using the little conditioner packets that come in these and this one was no exception. My hair felt SO good - not that it had just unnaturally been abused into a preferable shade of blonde! Even after blow drying it felt great. No straw like feel here.

My regrowth was pretty bad and I attempted to only colour that part of my hair - I am not a hairdresser so it was tricky to do on my own. Its a little rough but I'm not picky so I'm ok with it! Looking at the L'Oreal website, I might now invest in one of the products from the Elvive Colour Protect range. I already have the Total Repair 5 Instant Miracle which I didn't use after washing (just the conditioner) might will give that a go in a few days when its time to wash again.

Overall: I think this is a really good product! Next time I think I'll go to a pharmacy or Farmers to look at the colour selection before making my choice :-)
