A make up sponge worth the hype!

I had read so many reviews about this sponge, but couldn't believe how much it cost so I put it off for ages- I wish I hadn't!

I have owned my sponge for about 8 months now and it was worth every dollar! You don't have to buy from overseas websites now as makeup.co.nz and beautybliss.co.nz stock them. I have tried many different ways to apply foundation over the years and this pink sponge is the best by far.

It doesn't soak up foundation, it applies evenly and gives you an airbrush type finish that is flawless.

I have found even with foundations that I don't like the finish of as they are quite thick (such as Revlon Colourstay) if I apply them with the Beauty Blender they transform into a lovely foundation- it truly is a wonder product.

I love that it is a elliptical shape that allows you to get in underneath your eye and around your nose- I use it to apply my concealer too. Plus it is latex free, non-allergenic and odor free so perfect even for sensitive skin.

The only downside with this product is that it does take a little more care than a brush. You need to wash it regularly and leave it to air dry. Plus travelling with it can be a bit of a pain but I found putting it in a snaplock bag and washing it with whatever shower gel you are travelling with works pretty well.

Tips: Run it under the tap (cold) until it doubles in size then lightly press onto a clean towel so that is just damp and use in a bouncing motion to apply the foundation. Also don't throw away the little stand that comes with it as it is great to sit the sponge in to air dry.

Beauty Blender

I've used this to apply two different liquid foundations, pressed powder foundation, loose powder, and pressed powder blush. Liquid foundation: Does a nice even job of stippling it on but I was only able to get light to medium coverage at best. Even though the sponge was damp it did soak up a fair amount of foundation. It did leave tiny little dots in my foundation application or sponge prints for lack of a better description but they were way less noticeable than finger strokes if I had applied it with my fingers or a lousy foundation brush. The rolling motion to blend it didn't seem work as it either got the application that was setting damp or left sponge prints. I did find the point end useful for getting in corners and dabbing a dot of foundation on pimples and blending it in. It probably would've worked better if I had used a concealer since you don't get full coverage applying foundation with this sponge. Overall though it was a better streak free finish than my previous experience with a lousy brush or my fingers. With pressed powder foundation: I used it dry. It does give a more full coverage look to your foundation and definitely works better for getting in the corners of your eyes and nose better than a traditional flat sponge that comes with compacts. I had better success using the pointy end to dot an extra layer of foundation over pimples and blemishes, no sponge marks either. Can look a bit cakey depending on how much you layer on but I just dusted off the excess with my kabuki brush. With loose powder: I used dry it to stipple on my Antipodes Mineral Finishing Powder on top of my liquid foundation and it gave it a nice easy streak free even finish. I would still recommend using a kabuki or powder brush to lightly dust off any excess. But I would say it applies it better than a kabuki in my opinion and I can stipple more on to areas that need more loose powder. I used the side to stipple some on top of my blush since Antipodes' mineral powder can give a subtle highlight. The point also reached well under and over my eyelids to prep for eyeshadow and to set my eyeshadow application. I probably will more likely use it to apply loose powder rather than foundation in the future. With pressed blush: I would have used it damp if I had a cream blush but since I have powder blush I used it dry. I stippled on my blush and then sort of blended it in with the sponge and it mimicked the look of a slight healthy flush so well in fact it was the look I was always trying to get but couldn't with a brush. I dabbed a bit of loose powder on it to set it and it was gorgeous. The look stayed put all day even though I was doing active work in 40 degree heat. I swear every time I went to the bathroom that day I spent at least 20 seconds gazing in the mirror at my perfect gorgeous flushed cheeks, it wasn't more pink as the day wore on and it didn't fade either. This and loose powder is probably my favorite use of the beauty blender.

Tips: I do find it a bit of a hassle to wash after every use that being said it only takes a few minutes to do and it's texture makes it easy to ring out all the water and soap. It does take a while to dry so I recommend giving it a good squeeze and then another with a towel with a face towel around it and then putting it in the hot water cupboard to shorten drying time. Also I find it takes a long time to dry so if you want to use it daily I recommend you have at least two. The pink dye can run when you wash and wet it so use either kitchen paper towels or a facecloth that the dye won't show up on to wring it damp before use it and after you wash it or you can get the white one. I have a small bottle of the beauty blender cleanser since I got the travel set but I guess baby shampoo would do the trick since the cleanser can be expensive. My partner saw it drying on my dresser and ask what it was and I told him it was a makeup sponge and he said it was cute which is a first since most of my stuff he doesn't have a comment on.

A good product, but a hassle

I had heard so much about this sponge that when I saw it on sale I just had to try it. However, while I did think it was a good product, I find myself using it less and less. Yes it does apply a nice light layer of foundation and yes it blends it perfectly, but even with wetting the sponge prior to application I still feel like it is soaking up a lot of product. It can also be a pain having to wash it after every application, although it does dry pretty quickly. The shape of it is good though, I like to use the smaller end for blending in concealer under my eyes and around my nose. Overall I think it is just a personal preference and dependant on the foundation I am using at the time. For some foundations it is all I use but for others I prefer the finish that I get from a brush or using my fingers. It is something that is worth a try if you get the chance, but I certainly will still be using other methods of application in conjunction with this.

Flawless.

The Beautyblender sure did do what it said it would! I love that after each application, the beautyblender never fails to give me a flawless face! I use the Beautyblender to apply liquid foundation and BB cream, the smaller ends allow me to access hard to reach area easily. The sponge itself is very soft and looks pretty in pink. The only annoying thing about the Beautyblender is the washing after! If the sponge isn't that expensive, I would buy one, use it then chuck it away to avoid the cleaning.

Flawless Flawless Flawless!

I had heard a lot about the BB sponge before I took the plunge and bought it and am happy to say that I absolutely love it! It applies evenly and I find that using the sponge, a little does go a long way! Love it! If you haven't tried it then you have to!

Tips: Rinse before and after use, try and get as much water out of it as possible to avoid getting the stinky sponge smell!

beauty 'blunder'

its awkward and large, you need heaps of makeup on it and it is overall terrible, I brought one online and received it today, why did I bother? I got caught up in the hype and was disappointed with what I got, I don't like it.

The Original Beautyblender

At first I was extremely skeptical about purchasing the Beautyblender, I mean, $38 JUST for a SPONGE??!! It took me the better part of 12mths to decide whether to purchase this. I loved my faithful fake beautyblender, it did the trick but then I had nothing to compare it to. Once I made the leap, my fake sponge ended up in the rubbish bin 5 days later. This sponge is exactly what everyone says it is. It doesn't soak up too much product, blends your foundation in flawlessly and best of all, your foundation doesn't look caked on no matter how much you put on! This is definately worth the (eek) $38. I was lucky enough to pick a couple up for $44. Keep an eye on the specials. An absolute must have in your collection. So easy to use and even easier to clean.

Tips: I clean my beautyblender with warm water and liquid soap and it does the trick perfectly. The top of the beautyblender is perfect for getting into the corners of your eyes and around your nose.

Absolutely look out for the specials however, it is worth it. I've tried these with a few different foundations: Mac Studio Fix, Mac Studio Sculpt and Kat von D. All different consistencies, with the same end result. So happy with this!!

Holy Grail

I was put off by the price at first, so I brought replicas off ebay that sucked up so much product and were such a hassle to clean. Then one day I saw a video by Karrissa Pukas (satnitealrite) and she said she couldnt believe that she had been using replicas when she finally got the beauty blender, that did it for me the next day I was online buying one. I waited and waited for it to arrive, once it arrived I used it straight away, it was absolutely amazing. I now use it everyday to put on my foundation. I have used it with mousse and liquid and it creates a flawless finish everytime.

Blending Beauty

I love the beauty blender took me a while before purchasing it but when I did I regretted not getting it earlier. Using the beauty blender foundation looks like it is airbrushed on your face. Another benefit of using a beauty blender is no brush strokes. If you don't already have one your missing out!!

Tips: For faster application spread out the foundation on your face doesn't have to be perfect and then go in with the beauty blender will still work the same just faster. Also depending on how thick you want your make up you can dampen it or completely soak it in water. The wetter it is the more the thin the layer will be

Must have!!!!

I've been using the beauty blender for almost a month now and it honestly is my holy grail tool. The best part of this sponge is that I can clean it and not have to worry about waiting for it to dry. I use the bottom flat end to apply my foundation which leaves no lines or streaks and I use the pointed end for my concealer :). It's easy to clean and allows me to make the most of my product (if you wet it of course so that the product sits on top of the sponge rather than the sponge absorbing it.

Tips: Wet your beauty blender before using :). When cleaning your beauty blender massage the soap into your sponge for a bit before rising.

I brought my beauty blender from beauty.com using youshop. I'm a sucker for sales I think I got 20% discount when I purchased it so it cost me around $22 nzd. (Can also buy off of urbanoutfitters.com as well)
