I have been using this foundation for a few days now, thanks to BR. I had never heard of cushion beauty products prior to seeing this foundation, but now I seem to see them everywhere. I would definitely say that these types of products are going to be a big thing in 2016!
To start, the packaging is really lovely. It comes in a metallic lilac case with a mirror and a thin round puff applicator. It doesn’t weigh much so it would be good for travelling with. If you had to pack really lightly this product means you wouldn’t need to individually pack a mirror, applicator, and foundation.
On the first day that I tried this foundation, I decided to use the puff applicator that it comes with to apply the product to my whole face and neck. It took me much longer to do my foundation than it normally would because the applicator isn’t easy to hold on to. It has a ribbon that you’re meant to slip your fingers under but I couldn’t decide whether it was better to use one finger or two fingers. The applicator also made it difficult to apply around the sides of my nose. With all that being said it still gave me a lovely, flawless-looking finish and the applicator would be good to use when you need a quick touch-up.
Since that first day I have only applied this foundation with a beauty blender and I have found that it works so much better that way. The foundation itself felt very lightweight on my skin, and it is not heavy at all. It can be light to medium coverage depending on how much you build it up. If you have anything on your face that you like to completely cover up, then it pays to use a concealer as well. It made my skin look glowy and dewy. It doesn’t seem to have a fragrance which will be good for people with sensitive skin. Sometimes after a few hours of wear, my nose would start to get a bit oily but this was easily fixed with a bit of powder.
I should mention that the shade I received was 01 Porcelain, which is the lightest shade that L’Oreal offers in this product. I found that it was a wee bit darker than my skin tone but when I blended it down to my neck it looked really nice. I think that there will be some people out there with very light skin tones that won’t be able to wear this foundation. Definitely trial it in store first as it currently only comes in six shades. L’Oreal could definitely make an even lighter shade.
Overall I have really enjoyed this foundation and I find it hard to fault it on anything. The only thing that I would say is an issue is that you only get 12ml of product, which isn’t much when you’re paying over $30. For the same price you can usually get foundation bottles that have 30 to 50ml of product. I do wonder how long it will take before the cushion dries up.
If you prefer foundations that are good value for money and will last you a long time, then you might want to buy something else. However if you are looking for a lightweight foundation that is easily portable, then this is the product for you.
Eek, I was insanely excited to be selected for this trial! I had heard mixed reviews about cushion foundations but proofs in the pudding, right!? First off, the packaging is too toot but really different for L'Oreal! Its a round compact with a light pink plastic base & the top is a light purple, metallic finish. There is a sticker on the top with branding but other than the number being on the wee security tab, which you remove, you wouldn't know what colour it is. That won't be too hard to remember though because we only have 6 colour options in New Zealand. (This really limits the options for darker or lighter skin tones & cooler or warmer tones!). There is a really convenient mirror under the lid. There is also a round puff applicator that sits in the inner lid. The foundation is held inside a sponge (cushion). All I could think about was... hmmm, how will I keep this applicator clean! I think compared to my other foundation sizes of 30mls, this being only 12mls makes is quite spensy! That's the negatives now the positives. I love that it is light weight & easy to transport. I decided that if I was to do a true review that it was important to use the applicator, following the instructions under the base of the container, I pressed the applicator into the sponge and was really surprised at how much product load there was, it was really wet! Instructions say to tap the product on so away I went, tapping like a tap dancer! I chose shade 03 vanilla (which I don't think is quite cool tone enough for me), it looked so much darker in the sponge! OOOOH, it doesn't really have a fragrance, big bonus for me! I did one layer to check coverage and texture. It definitely looked dewy with decent light coverage. I applied another layer and then concentrated on areas where I consistently have break down of product. I am quite impressed with how it covers my broken capillaries and it makes my skin look fresh but what I love most is that is looks like healthy skin, it doesn't look or feel like you have a couple of layers of foundation on. It’s really buildable and blendable. My skin is really dry so I always add a drop of serum to my foundation but this formula is perfect for my dry skin and although it gives a dewi/glowy finish, it wasn't over the top for me. I tried it with and without setting powder and decided that I prefer it with, just to take down some of the glow under my eyes. I found it slightly tacky but just waited a few minutes for to settle prior to applying the rest of my makeup. It holds together quite well, though there was some break down around my nose and chin, no biggy. I will definitely be purchasing for myself!
Tips: Always have a good, clean base prior to applying. Give the sponge applicator a go at least once because it gives an air brushed look and its purpose built for the job... and then use your beauty blender or flat top brush for future apps. DO NOT STICK YOUR CHUBBY SAUSAGES IN TO THE SPONGE...EWW, GERMS! LOL
