It just... didn't work

I still have this one lying around somewhere at home... but I never use it anymore, for the simple fact that it didn't seem to work. At all.

I rarely paint my nails, despite a huge collection of nail polish (mostly OPI). And I always seem to chip my index fingers, within a day of painting them. When I first saw this product, I just HAD to have it.

When you apply it, it's very runny/watery, and it has a tiny wee brush (not the same size as a standard OPI applicator brush). I put one coat all over my nail; and it instantly soaks in and make my nail look chalky.

Following the instructions, follow with base coat, colour and top coat.

And the result? Still got chips in all the same places, within the same timeframe. Disappointed, to say the least!

Tips: Skip this one

Chip skip

I have a small sample bottle of this. Barely used as it's an extra step prior to base coat and not sure how much it works to extend nail polish wear. Didn't see much difference so easier to skip this step and rely on my top coat to prevent chipping

What Is Chip Skip?

I received a mini of this in a Smellycat order as a gwp. I initially thought it was a top coat so the first couple of times I used this I used it as a top coat for my Opi polishes. I had Nail Envy so I thought if I used an Opi top coat along with my Opi polishes maybe my manicure would stay looking nice for longer. I found the consistency of this as a top coat tricky to paint on. It's very watery and since the brush was narrow it I was harder to see where I had painted this on but I did manage to cover all my nails with this. When I painted it on it seemed take off some of the polish as well. It didn't take long to dry. However it failed to live up to the name of avoiding chipping. Finally I decided to look it up on BR and found out it's not a top coat it's another layer to use under your base coat. And apparently you're not supposed to use it on dry nails? So you're not meant to use it if your nails are dry and breaking or you're meant to try and paint some on wet nails? I decided to try and paint it over Opi Nail Envy so that maybe it would help the polish stick better to my base coat while my nails get the benefit of a treatment. I honestly didn't see a difference when I did that my polish still chipped the same at the tips and I can't say the nail polish went on better. Of course the polish closer to the nail beds didn't chip but that's what usually happens it can stay on for weeks the closer it is to the nail bed but the tips will only last a day to a couple of days. I don't need an extra step in my manicure since it's already very time consuming. So I won't bother to replace this when it runs out, if it does.

Tips: This isn't a top coat it isn't anything but an extra step in your manicure which doesn't improve the look or wear time. It's not worth buying.

Does not prevent chipping.

I bought this as I find nail polish chips on me really quickly - usually within two days, even with a top coat. Ugh. I was hoping this would prevent that and extend the life of my nail polish.

This is not a nail polish, it is a very liquid formula that you apply with a shorter stiffer brush than the usual OPI polish brush.

It dehydates your nails, which supposedly makes the polish stick better and therefore be less prone to chipping. I did not find this to be the case at all - I still get chipping by day two. Disappointing, especially for the price.

Tips: Don't spend the money - invest in gel polish instead.

Oooh that's a good idea! I like using glitters on their own sometime too as they too disguise chipping!

i haaaaaate chips but my fix is often to put shatter polish over it if I can't be bothered removing and redoing (I also hate naked nails) because chips don't show as bad with the shatter haha

I know! My nails are notorious for chipping quickly so I had high hopes for this.
