Great for a beginner

I normally steer clear of putting more than one colour on my lids, fear of looking like I've been punched in the eye mainly. I just never felt like I knew what I was doing. This palette has made my routine so much more "sophisticated ". I have worn a number of combinations and feel like I'm looking a lot more put together and polished. I like that the packaging shows which colours go together in duos, trios and quads, which is great if you really have no idea. I needed to wear a base on my lid though as I think these don't have the best staying power. Overall this is a great starter and I'm so pleased I tried it out, I'll be a lot more confident with my eye makeup going forward.

Tips: Wear a base on your lid first - I like Bobbi Brown Creme Shadow in Cement.

for a drugstore brand this is pretty great...

however, on darker skin tones some of the shade just does not show up as pigmented as i would like. I adore this palette, for the high end feel and the drugstore price!

Tips: use a lighter eyeshadow base for darker tones.

Nudes

I was so excited to try this because I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on it so to be able to test it out myself was amazing. I am a huge fan of nude eye shadows and the colours in this palette are beautiful and I found it really easy to mix and match all the colours.

I was a bit disappointed in the pigmentation of some of the colours. For example the first shade in the top row and the third shade on the bottom row are not very pigmented even if I try to build them up. However I do think that in most palettes you do get shades that are less pigmented than others. My favourite shades were the taupe colours which is the first shade in the bottom row and the fourth shade in the top row. These two colours have a decent pigmentation and look very pretty together as one is a matte shade and the other is more shimmery and they are very easy to blend.

In other reviews I noticed people found some of the colours very similar and I kind of agree because as I mentioned before that my favourite shades are the taupes and they are actually the exact same colour, they just have different finishes. I also think they have too many highlight shades. In this palette they have 3 and I think the most they should have included is 2. One thing I was very impressed with was all the matte shade and amazing pigmentation so I think this palette I would use more for the matte shades rather than the shimmery ones.

Overall I think it is a decent palette however I think there are better alternatives like the Chi Chi palettes.

I was extremely excited to get this palette in my hot little hands! When I first opened it, I was greeted by 12 beautiful nude shades both shimmery and matte. The back of the palette shows the duos and quads which helps when choosing what colours to wear. My first look was using the centre quad. The packaging is nice and simple, displaying all the colours nicely. It also comes with those little dual end eye shadow brushes that you always lose as soon as you open the package.

The first thing I did was swatch the palette, which if I'm honest was a little underwhelming... For the price tag, I thought it would be a lot more pigmented. Pigmentation isn't the be all and end all for me however and after some building up it does produce 12 gorgeous nude shades.

The colours all work together and there isn't one colour is the palette that I won't use. This is a big deal for me as I find I always get palettes and there is bound to be one ugly colour that sits there and never gets touched - not the case with this bad boy

But when it comes down to it - no I wouldn't purchase this palette for $30. For me the colour pay off just isn't good enough and there are a couple of colours that are very close in comparison.

Tips: Wear a primer or white base before applying to get the colours to pop!

Some beautiful shades

The darker colours in this palette are certainly well pigmented and easy to blend however, I did find that the lighter shades were very sheer and not worth using. The bright gold shade is my favourite although it would be amazing if it were even more pigmented. As a newbie to eyeshadow, I did find it a little difficult due to the poor pigmentation of some of the shades. If it was on special, it would probably be worth purchasing for the nice, well pigmented shades but I wouldnt go out of my way to hunt it down

Nice basic pallet, needs more pigment

As someone who generally only buys very bright and colourful pallets, this one is a nice one to have for basic, neutral nude colours. The colours blend really well for me even though I have cheap Kmart brushes. The issue I have is that the pale colours are lacking in pigment, though the dark colours are decently pigmented (however I am very disappointed with the black), overall I think the pallet is has nice colours and is good for it's price but could definitely up the pigment.

Not the best but it's okay

My first impressions of the palette is that it looked very sleek & elegant, no unnecessary bulk or packaging. It was love at first sight but the first time I used it I was disappointed there was no mirror as I prefer to use a hand mirror when applying eye shadow. At first glance I thought the colours of the shadows were gorgeous & a good variety for creating a lot of neutral looks. I really loved the narrow ends of the sponge brush which I used to smudge the eye shadow to create a smokey effect & helped to intensify & add definition on the lower lash & inner eye area.

I liked the "how to use" duos, trios, quads demonstrations on the bottom of the palette which I thought would be really helpful for beginners and for those people who aren't really familiar with using more than 1 eye shadow, it's really good to have that direction of what to do. Also the placing of the eye shadows in the palette is a very well thought-out concept of mixing & matching.

Due to the fact that the eye shadows aren't highly pigmented or glittery I can't recommend using an eye shadow primer enough, it'll help bring out & make the colours last a lot longer. However something to think about & maybe the direction where Maybelline was heading with this product... Do you really want over the top sparkles with a nude palette? After all when I think of "nude" it makes me think of a product that enhances your natural beauty not a product that is designed to dress you up as a Vegas showgirl.

I found most of the shimmery shades to be creamy in texture but sheer once blended (again, not highly pigmented), the downside is that the matte shades were a bit difficult to blend, they were chalky/powdery and were a bit more challenging to get the desired look. I did find using a more dense brush in a patting motion worked a little better but still had to work at blending more than I would have with any other palette. I didn't like the black in the palete, it's not the blackest of blacks.. more like a ashy black/grey.

I am some what impressed with this palette, it's great having a variety of colours where you can be creative while enhancing your natural look however I do not think it is worth $30. No mirror, a little stiff & awkward to open and the textures of the eye shadows didn't perform as well I would have expected from Maybelline.

Great to know about the pigmentation of these, not sure if it will be something I end up getting, for $30

Tricky

This palette is tricky, as I've stated in the title. Sounds weird - but it's true. Here, let me explain. The Maybelline The Nudes palette is a stunning set of 12 nude coloured eyeshadows (surprise surprise) and beautiful colours at that. There are overall 6 mattes (including a trusty matte black) and 6 shimmers - which is a good, even selection.

Why I call this palette tricky is because as you swipe your finger on the product, most of them (the mattes and a few of the shimmers) feel satisfactorily creamy however, as you lift your finger up to look after a few swipes, to your despair you can still see every line on your finger - which is a sure sign that the product isn't very pigmented. I was super excited for the matte black however I found that the product was very chalky. Most shimmery shadows were worst in terms of pigmentation, the mattes up next. One of the best eyeshadows in the palette in terms of pigmentation was the bronze metallic/shimmer the fourth one on the top row - which is very pigmented, swatches nicely, applies nicely onto the eye as well. In fact the two colours, 4th accross in each row, are the best in the palette. I'd say the darker colours (apart from the black) are the best of the palette in terms of pigmentation and application.

The eyeshadow wearing power is average and doesn't last on my poor oily eyelids the whole day (without a base) however the metallic shades (4th across in each row) do last you most of the day and are perfect for a bronze smokey eye. The quality of each individual eyeshadow is honestly hit and miss. Some of the eyeshadows (particularly the light shimmers and mattes are poor in pigmentation and are often very powdery. Don't be completely fooled by the smooth feel of these eyeshadows. I found the overall pigmentation of this palette disappointing as I was only properly happy with 2 of the 12 shadows in this palette. Pity, the colours are gorge. Maybe I'm biased? I'm a owner of a Sleek Idivine.

Tips: Use the 4th colour across on both top and bottom rows to achieve a bronze smokey eye. Both colours are nicely pigmented, blend well and sit nicely on the lid. I'd say, stick to a matte black from a DIFFERENT palette for more depth as its quite chalky and difficult to blend.

Great colours!

I loved this palette when I first got it. But as time went on, I realised the product isn't pigmented very well in the lighter colours, you have to the colour up.

I loved the range of colours in this palette, but the darker shades are actually darker then they look in the palette? Its weird. Its still a great product for those who don't want to splurge on a more pricey eyeshadow palette!

nice pallette

Nice basic pallette good for easy looks for work. Blends nicely, but could use some more pigmentation in the lighter colors. Lots of shimmer.
