Lip stain that goes on liquid and dries completely matte. Touch-proof, long-wearing, and utterly addictive!

Matte lips

I have mixed thoughts on this product, I got caught up in all the hype I must admit, I wanted some vixen red lips that didn't budge. What I didn't consider was matte lips and I don't get on much, while it looks great on others I just don't seem to be able to pull it off! I have red velvet and while I adore the colour the formula wasn't really what I expected. It was very watery which made it really hard for me to apply, no matter what I get a stupid amount on my teeth! A little goes a long way so I think you need to apply with a lip brush to get a neat job. Once dry (I feel it takes awhile) it is very long lasting. Overall it was an impulse buy which just doesn't suit my preference. I think I'll stick to the lipsticks in future.

UPDATE: I am not sure if it's because mine has been exposed to the air but the formula has changed slightly, it's a lot easier to apply now, not so watery. So it's not quite as nightmarish to apply anymore which is great!

Preparation is the key

I bought my first ever LC Velvetine for a Halloween look, and I was worried about transfer and longevity of the lippy.. no one wants it to look worn out after a few drinks or have to constantly touch up.

Well first the packaging: very sleek, cute and girly but not in an unsophisticated way. the cost: well it is up there, but is it worth it... yes... and no. Yes for day to day colours but not for once offs or colours you will only wear now and then.

The lippy: it's a smooth liquid, smells of a hint of vanilla... glides on effortlessly. I was worried being a liquid as I am used to bullets only so thought it would take a bit to get used to but have had no issues applying just the right amount and no bleeds/runs or transfers... just make sure product is dry before you eat/drink or kiss :) It lasted a few hours before I needed to touch up but that was more due to the dark colour and wear showing up more readily.

Removal: a good make up remover is a must especially with the dark shades

Dryness is to be expected with this type of product so make sure you have a good lip balm t the ready and prep those lips before hand... flakes are not a god look.

Tips: Exfoliate your lips regularly and use a decent balm in between use. If you use a gloss or another lippy over this product it will wear off and loose staying power.

One of my favs

I love my Velvetines - I have black velvet, pansy, cashmere, wicked, red velvet and riot. I still have more colours to purchase :) I never used to like matte lipsticks until i tried these. I don't know why, but I just fell in love (with the whole limecrime brand too). These lipsticks last all day at work and I don't need to reapply and when I wear these on a night out, I DON'T have to reapply! It amazes me :) They go on really smooth and i find they dry quite quickly. The applicator is easy to use and makes it easy to trace around your lips. If you make a mistake though, be quick with cleaning it up. I made the mistake of taking my time and it ended up staining! I ending up losing the plot (which involved a lot of swearing), wiping off all my make-up, starting again AND ended up late to my Uncles wedding. Please tell me I'm not the only one that gets like this when it comes to stuffing up my make up..... The only down side (which i don't really care about) is that they can feel like your lips are quite dry. But don't wear a balm underneath these, as it just doesn't dry up and ends up rubbing off. All in all - i love limecrime and i love these lipsticks.

Tips: Definitely exfoliate your lips before you use these matte lippies and slather your lips in a moisturizing balm of some sort (trilogy everything balm is my fav) and make sure you get it all off before you apply your velvetine. I always do this the night before so my lips absorb everything.

Use a lip liner to if you want to be perfect, but you really don't need too.

100% LOVE

Honestly, the only thing I could fault this for is its price. I got this in the colour of peachy and it was honestly amazing. I only just finished it p the other day and it lasted me a couple months with almost every day use ! this was finally the first lipstick I'd found that didn't smudge ! These colours are great for subtle day use but also can be dressed up with some other makeup to make look fancy LOVE LOVE LOVE

Tips: INVEST IN SOME ASAP

My new passion

After purchasing and using suedeberry I am going to have to get the rest of the velvetiness, there is nothing else as nice as them on the market. They glide on so smooth, without bleeding at the edges of the lips, one coat is ample enough to give an even coverage. The colour of suedeberry is a little on the orange side of red, but it really brightens up your smile. Its kiss proof but not quite eating and drinking proof but otherwise it stays on a long time.

First lime crime experience

And I am converted. Have seen lot's of my friends making purchases recently and have finally jumped on the bandwagon. My biggest issue was I didn't want to buy them online, I wanted to see them in real life and swatch the colors. I discovered a shop in Wellington CBD sells them, so off I went. I purchased 'Suedeberry', a bit brighter than I initially wanted, was on the hunt for 'Wicked' but obviously it was sold out. Goes on somewhat easy but I think it will take a while to master, I would definitely recommend lining your lips first to avoid it bleeding out. I love that its touch proof but the inner did wear throughout the day with eating and drinking but nowhere near as much as what a normal everyday lipstick would have. I loved being able to go into a meeting and not worry about smudging or needing to re-apply. I will definitely get 'Wicked' when the new stock comes in.

My only issue was the removal.. not as simple as just wiping it off, the only thing I found in my bathroom that actually took it off was my toner, which probably wasn't the best thing for my lips so any suggestions would be welcomed!

I have 'Wicked' and love it! You should definitely pick it up when you can. I just use normal makeup remover to take mine off but you might even find that a really greasy lip balm might be enough to shift it.

I find a half and half mixture of olive oil and witch hazel works really well for long lasting lip products like these :)

Colour me in love with velvetines

I have been searching for the perfect lipstick and today I received it in my hot little hands. Its easy to apply and the effect is magical. Perfect matte pout. I bought red velvetines and I'm a believer never again will I need to search for the perfect shade of matt red.

Tips: Always always carry this lippy with you. A crappy dull day is instantly turned into a perfect lip smacking day.

Favourite lip colour ever!

I own red velvet, suedeberry and now pink velvet and if they came in more colours I would buy them too. I live this product it's stunning I get so many compliments when I wear it. It also lasts for ages provided your not eating anything greasy. Highly recommend it and the packaging is so cute too!

Tips: Make sure you put it on carefully because once it dries its hard to correct any mistakes.

In l♥ve!

I love the valvetines range! I have four colours which I only wear on special occassions/nights out. The only reason I don't wear this during the day is because of how bold the colour is and seems a bit over the top for a daytime look. They really do dry matte and don't budge at all! Eating, drinking and kissing doesn't seem to affect it, it really clings to your lips! It can feel a bit drying but it's not that bad and I get used to the feeling. I love how vibrant the colours are, although that might be a bit scary for someone who isn't used to such a bold lip. The only reason I haven't given it a 5/5 for recommending it to a friend is because of how strong the colour is. Anther reason is that lot of product comes on the wand and because comes out a liquid, it can be difficult to apply at first. Sometimes I even wipe a little bit off.

Tips: Make sure your lips are completely clean, dry and well exfoliated! Start in the middle of my lips so that when I get to the outline, there isn't as much liquid and it's easier to control. Less is more! I use the Loreal Gentle Eyes + Lips makeup remover to get it off.

my Love

It dries quick, takes a bit of getting used to on how it feels on your lips. I watched youtube reviews on this before I purchased and some of the beauty gurus showed that it doesn't wipe off. In my case, there was always a bit of colour rub off BUT there's still a lot of colour left on your lips. Little touch up needed, i did because it was habit but it's unnecessary. I have Red Velvet, one of my faves

Tips: 1) I use it as a liner if I want to wear other red lipsticks, works great!

2) To make this product go the distance make sure to get rid of the excess on the brush by wiping it on opening like how you would a nail polish brush. You'll still have a lot on the brush to work with :)
