Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner Review

I do love applying this Gel and it looks fabulous when it's first on, but for some reason it transfers to above my crease every time! Not sure if it is something that I'm doing wrong, but I'd love to know if you guys have any ideas to fix this! Apart from that I really do like using it!

I bought this because my liquid eyeliner had run out and well to be completely honest it was a slight let down! I bought the charcoal because I was after a slightly less harsher look, but honestly I wish I'd bought the black! The charcoal is extremely grey. Im finding the brush quite hard to use, but I guess with more practice it'll get better :)

This is a cheaper version of MACS black track gel liner for those who cant afford the hefty price tag which comes with any MAC product.

What I love about Maybelline is how accessible their products are they can be found at your local pharmacy and Farmers stores. I always wear black as black eyeliner, and gel liner is no acception to this rule.

This provided great colour density, it remained on my eyelid all day long. Gel liner can be used for day time and dramatic evening lines. I find gel eyeliners slightly trickier to apply as the brush that comes with them is never ideal.

I only use Gel eyeliner for the top of my lids due to the tendacy to smudge much easier. Heat causes gel to react and you can end up with a panda eye by the end of the day. For lower waterline I find khol pencils to be a safer option.

Would definitely re purchase again, well worth the price tag and there's always offers on Maybelline products.

Maybeline gel eyelines is my first gel eyeliner product. I didn't want to splurge on expensive products to try it for the first time. Oh dear, was I impressed, I loved it. Since then I have turned back to liquid liners. I own 3 colors in Maybeline gel liner range and I use it everyday. Its easy to apply with the brush it comes. Only thing about this product is it doesn't last long as the products suggests 24 hours wear. I use it to work everyday and by evening the line is lighter or almost gone. Need to reapply if you are heading out in the eve.

I first gave this product a go a couple of years ago. I remember specifically purchasing it to do my makeup for a night out, but stop using it because it smudged like nothing I'd seen before! A couple of years later I decided to give it another go, and I'm pleased I did as it's something I now use on a regular basis. I don't know what happened the first time I used it, but I don't have any issues with the eyeliner smudging now (which could be in part to me now using a different primer and be better at my application!).

The liner has quite good pigmentation although you do have to go over the line a couple of times if you want solid definition. I don't find that to be a bad thing anyway as I'd rather build up the thickness and darkness bit by bit anyway. I don't have a very good hand when it comes to doing things like wings etc. with my eyeliner, but this has been one of the first eyeliners I've used where I've been able to get the look (consistently) that I want due to it being pretty easy to use. Staying-power is pretty good too - it lasts me at least 8 hours during the day.

So I have been giving gel liners a chance to try something new. So far I have tried Rimmel and now on to Maybelline. I found that Rimmel gel liner would imprint on my eyelids throughout the day and heard that Maybelline does not. So here is what I think..

I do think it is rather pricey, but I was lucky and got mine on sale at Countdown. $18 would be a more reasonable price for this product. The packaging is nice but I think the pot holding the gel is a little miss leading; I thought I was going to get more than what was in the glass pot, but just a trick of the eye from when it was in the packaging.

Application was okay, I found the brush is a little bit too thick and the gel is the same but I do expect the gel too get more thin/soft the more I use it. If you make a mistake, get a makeup/baby wipe and fix it immediately or you will struggle as I did to fix it without having to start over. I found I needed two layers to get the nice thick bold black look, and it does look amazing when you succeed.

The packaging says this is 24 hour stay and I do believe it lives up to that, but, it does very very slightly do the imprinting on your eyelid thing, Thankfully it was not noticeable at all. I did not wear it for the whole 24 hours... kinda obviously needing sleep and what not ;) but from the time of me wearing it (12 hours) it was still very black and bold! This is the point which is keeping me to Maybelline Gel for now (I mean, who would want that washed out grey black look? Bold is where it is at ladies).

I have never really had a problem with eyeliners (ranging from gel, liquid and pencil) on my eyelids and around my eyes, only once when I brought a nasty cheap liquid liner from the $2 shop gave me a itchy reaction around my eyes. There was no sign of a reaction of this gel liner at all, and I do have dry/mixed/sensitive skin (It varys from what part of my body it is, very annoying but oh well.)

I overall would recommend this gel liner to anyone who would like to try gel liners but you will need to know or practice to use the brush. It probably helps that I am very experienced when it comes to the cat eye liner and brushes. You may experience the very little not very noticeable imprint on you eyelid or may not. Also, if you like bold, pick this!

This eyeliner is pretty good. It has good staying power and good definition but I did find the brush a bit thick and average to apply. I look to use this for everyday as it doesn't smudge and lasts awhile.

This is an eyeliner that I proberley tried about 5ish years ago, I could be a year or 2 out but unfortunately I wasnt too happy with it (what a first!). If I remember correctly, this is the actual product that pushed my to trying liquid eyeliners?

Unfortunely I found that this product did smudge on my eyelids, Im pretty sure I wasnt using an eye primer at the time but it doesnt recommend to?? I also found that the product did dry out quite quickly after I had purchased it which was a shame because I did store it in a cool, dark place (as well as all of my other make up). I also found that the brush that came with this eyeliner was no where near thin enough to create a nice thin precise line, well I couldnt get the hang of it personally so I purchased another brush the very same day!

So yes my history with this product wasnt a good one. However I would like to try it again especially if the formulation has changed/ improved as there has been some great reviews on it. Otherwise I have been tempted to try a "higher end" gel eyeliner as I do have slightly hooded eyes and maybe this was the reason of this particular product smudging. Ehh I just dont know... On the fence with this one :-/ Please comment below on any advise, would love to hear more personal experiences :)

Awesome product! Took me a while to get the hang of it but once i did it's now a go to eyeliner! only downside is the brush that comes with it is rather thick and wasn't good for simple thin line but that's easily fixed by using a different brush. Last long and high pigment quality!

While this may be the best eyeliner I've found it's still not perfect, maybe my expectations are too high? It does last a long time but smudge-proof and waterproof for 24 hours absolutely not, maybe more like 4 or 5 hours depending on how hot the day is. That being said it is a staple in my makeup bag and the essential product for doing that amazing cat eye flick. I also think the brush is pretty amazing.
