L'Oreal PRO XXL EXTENSION MASCARA

This mascara is not what I would wear everyday, due to there being 2 steps. One end is the primer and the other end is the fibers. It's just a little bit more time consuming for me, having to undo one end then do it up and then undo the other end. The L'oreal pro XXL mascara does give you fuller looking eyelashes and lasts throughout the day but I did notice a bit of smudging on the undereye which has always been a pet peeve of mine when it comes to mascara. It was also fairly easy to remove with just a cotton pad and warm water. Will definitely be using again. Just not everyday.

Ok I'm a real fuss pot when it comes to mascara's! I was really happy to be chosen for this trial as I do love L'Oreal products and it sounded great.

I liked the tube, the colour was a nice dark purpley colour and quite streamlined. Each end was clearly labelled with a 1 or 2 so you could tell which to put on first. I like how the middle of the tube (part you hold onto) was ribbed like so you could grip it easily.

The brush for the volumising primer is shaped larger at the end than the middle, so I used this first to prime the lashes - on it's own this actually gave my lashes a bit of volume/length at the get go.

The next step is the super fibers - this brush is curved, both brushes are a good size and have the longer bristles which I like. The second step was applied straight after the primer, I wasn't really sure if I should wait for the primer to dry first, so applied straight away. I used the "wiggle" from base to tip to ensure a good coverage.

It actually works really well, it definitely lengthened my lashes and gave them a kind of false lash effect which was great.

I also tried waiting for the primer to dry first before applying the fibre step, but I think it works better if you don't wait for them to dry, that's just my opinion.

One other good thing about this mascara is that I got it to wash off pretty easily, which I wasn't sure about as I'm really fussy about being able to get it off without losing lashes!

I like the mascara and would use it again, the only downside for me is the time to apply several coats and dependent on the price also.

My lashes are average at best, they’re very straight and flat, one side curls but the other resists, and while they’re not stubby, they’d hardly be mistaken for long and luscious.

This mascara reminds me of ones they did years ago with the white primer at one end and mascara at the other. This formula looks better with both sides being black and quite frankly they could both be used as stand alone mascaras, but by pairing the more fibre based formula in number two over number one that does create extra length.

You can get very similar results by applying mascara the old fashioned way, where you layer more of your usual mascara over a dried layer. But this sits slightly nicer I think.

The length itself wasn’t probably much different to other lengthening mascaras - which with one applicator I’d probably be more inclined to stick to.

While in terms of volume I couldn’t see much difference.

I think the idea is interesting and the results not bad.

This mascara arrived with no excess packaging, perfect! The 2 ends are clearly labelled ‘1’ and ‘2’ so you know which to apply first. Step 1, the volumising primer, has a straight brush. I found this very easy to apply, and was the only coat I applied to my bottom lashes and it was perfect for them. Step 2 has a curved application brush. This was simple to apply and get onto those small inner lashes. There was no clumping from either mascara. I was disappointed with the amount of extension provided by this mascara. I didn’t feel it was any more than I have achieved with other mascaras, so the name ‘XXL’ seems a bit excessive. I did find that throughout the day, some of the filaments fell out around my eyes. Even worse when I accidentally swiped them causing smudges. Given the price, I think you can achieve the same, if not better, look with cheaper mascaras

I’m always saying this… buuuuut…. I am a natural redhead and devoid of eyelashes and eyebrows. I don’t like having to faff around getting them dyed or extensions etc etc. This is my solution- finally!! The difference is absolutely definitely noticeable. Product is in an attractive tube. Nice and slim to fit in my makeup holder. Step one is an different style of brush head that I’ve never used before and I did struggle at first to get my flow on. But after a bit of practice I got the hang of it.

Step two wand is very easy to use and really defines and extends lashes.

No odour and does not sting if you accidentally poke your eye… (don’t recommend trying that though)

I am a runner and after a 10km run my mascara is still looking ship shape with not a smudge to be seen. Washes off well with standard face cleanser.

A massive plus is the affordability of this one! Retails around $27. This will be my new go to mascara.

I really love this PRO XXL EXTENSION MASCARA, the length is incredible! My lash volume increased and they looked much fuller but the length was even more amazing. I found it goes on nicely and isn’t flakey or clumpy which I have found with some similar fibre mascaras. I used two coats on each eye and that was perfect. It is easily removed with makeup remover wipes. I found it lasted all day and I had several compliments with friends asking what mascara I had on. I would definitely buy this mascara and use regularly. The only thing that was a little annoying is it being a two step mascara, if you’re pressed for time it can be quite time consuming.

I have short, stubby, dead-straight eyelashes so finding a mascara that looks natural-ish, adds heaps of volume and length without clumping, and is light enough that it doesn't weigh down my lashes can be a tall order.

I was tempted by the lift version of this mascara, but figured I usually curl my lashes anyway, so the extension seemed more my speed. I tried it once without curling my lashes, and this formula has pretty much no lift, so isn't suitable for straight lashes without a curler.

On curled lashes, it gives a good amount of extra length, great definition, and plenty of volume without clumping. Overall, I don't feel like it gave quite as much of an extension effect as it promises, but still very good.

Strictly in terms of looks, it doesn't outperform my all time favourite mascara, Perversion by Urban Decay, but coming in a solid $10 cheaper means it's pretty good bang for buck if you're looking for a good mid-range mascara and can't quite justify the $46 for Perversion.

Most impressive, though, is its staying power. It lasts through the day very well, and even when I slept in it (oops!) it still looked pretty good the next day and most importantly there was no smearing or product drop on my lower eyelid. I was super impressed by how well it lasted, and for this reason alone would definitely keep using it. The fact that it is also a pretty good mascara overall is fab.

I like simple makeup routines so I wasn't too keen on a 2-step process for mascara but the results from this product is worth it!

Step 1 is the volumising primer that has an hourglass wand. The wand is not saturated with product so you spend less time fiddling with how much you should apply. At first I thought I started with the wrong side of the mascara because I noticed the lift in my lashes just from the primer. If I'm rushed for time, I'd be happy to just wear this alone..but I will make time just because step 2 packs a punch.

Step 2 is made up of the fibres on a curved wand. The application is just like any mascara that I almost don't notice the fibres. It's mess free but does dry faster than I'd like so I need to work fast so that it doesn't look clumpy. I only need one layer which lasts a good 9 hours with no flaking however after that I start to notice smudging.

This is a mascara that is already on my repurchase list because it adds volume and adds length that's actually visible. This product has bumped my holy grail to number 2!

Having "barely there" lashes mascaras are an absolute essential item and so when I was selected to trial the Loreal Pro XXL Extension mascara I was super excited so thank you BR team!.My first impression was where is the packaging? I was surprised to find my mascara arrived without any packaging which would of included directions and a list of ingredients which I usually check to make sure there is nothing I could be allergic to eg: wheat however a quick google search and I was reassured the product was safe for me to use.The masacara is rather bulky in size but don't be fooled by this because the brushes were perfect to coat every lash including those wee annoying ones in the corner of my lower lashes.I found the mascara very easy to use by first applying the primer which is clearly labeled the number 1, giving my lashes several coats because I didn't feel they looked coated enough next I applied the fibres marked the number 2 on the other end of the mascara,just a couple of coats.I didn't see much volumn but it definitely lengthened them considerably.I felt the formula was on the dry side although not a bad thing because I didn't notice any smudges or panda eyes while wearing this all day.I did notice a slight fibre fall under my eyes but it was only minor and easily brushed away.I would of preferred a more intense black colour to really make my eyes pop because although my lashes were very long they were lacking in standing out and not seeing hardly any volumn was a bit dissappointing too.I did love that the mascara is buildable without any clumps and how my lashes looked lifted and curled but I also noticed my lashes had that "spider leg" look going on and personally I am not a fan of this.It definitely has lasting power and my lashes did not feel stiff or brittle while wearing this I also found it very easy to remove just by washing my face with my usual face wash and I did not notice any loss of eyelashes or irritation to my eyes which some mascaras tend to do to me.Would I use this again? Possibly if they bring in a more intense black and it is quite an affordable mascara similar priced to other drug store brands.

I’m always on the lookout for lengthening mascaras that are long-wearing and smudge-proof - really important in the Auckland humidity. I have fine lashes which are also short and straight so I want a formula that’s buildable allowing me to adjust the volume and length of my lashes with each application. L’Oreal have brought out a new 2 step mascara, infused with super fibres, which gives a lash extension effect and up to 20x buildable volume. There are hundreds of options on the market, with various combinations of benefits like length, volume, curl and so on. After trialling L’Oreal’s Pro xxl extension mascara I think I’ve found the Holy Grail of mascaras. A huge plus is that its been ophthalmologist-tested, great for those with sensitive eyes. The mascara comes in a bright purple tube meaning you’ll always locate your mascara in your makeup bag. Step 1 is a lash primer coating. L’Oreal have helpfully numbered a primer side and a fibre side so there’s no confusion. Woohoo the primer is black! This is so great as the usual white primer can give patches and leave specks of white where you’ve missed with the mascara wand. The slimline shape of the wand was wonderful for accessing the hard to reach lashes and was easy to operate with no clumping and gave an even spread.   The formula itself is easy to apply; it’s quite wet which means one coat covers each lash. The thin brush ensured I could work the formula close to the base of my lash line. Step 2 is the actual mascara which is applied on top of the primer. The curved brush helps to get to every lash with good lash separation. It was easy to use and it coated mascara onto my lashes evenly with no clumping.  The mascara formula is buildable so you can customise your lash look from natural to a false eyelash effect. One coat was all I needed to give a super intense inky black finish and a good definition to my eyes. I absolutely love this mascara, I was really impressed by how long and defined my eyelashes were after applying this product!  A lot of mascaras that aren’t waterproof smudge easily on me. I didn't notice any flaking, smudging or fallout of fibres throughout the day and no transfer to my eyelids. I use a gel-based eye makeup remover just to make sure my lashes are thoroughly cleansed.  In spite of the two step process, the application is very easy and quick. It requires under a minute more time for the primer. I've been trying to find the "perfect mascara" for me. This one so far is definitely it!
