La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 Serum

The serum arrived in the telltale La Roche Blue and White packaging, a 30ml bottle, and a separate dropper. I have been trying various serums over the last 2 years and have been going back to my old trusted brand every time.

The product stated that it was Anti-aging concentrate, repairing, replumping for sensitive skin. The serum is to be applied to the face and neck and the watery gel texture was pretty light and spreads easily. It took me a few tries before I was able to drop enough on my hand to cover my face and neck and did not dry sticky at all.

You don’t need a lot of product so it lasts a long time I have always had pretty sensitive skin and with the constant use of water and hand sanitisers over the Covid period I have been left with pretty dry skin. The onset of winter also brings about heat from the air conditioners which instantly dries out my skin.

As my skin is very sensitive (psoriasis prone) and many products can irritate and inflame my skin, this product did not lead to any irritation which is plus point.

I found that the serum left my skin feeling plump and definitely replenished my skin. The product had quite a strong fragrance, but not overpowering. I do think over a period of time using the product it will improve the condition overall, a week did not show much of a difference.

The bottle was easy to close with the dropper and I disposed of the bottle’s original cap. The packaging went to the bin with the cap. Bit of a shame to fill the landfill.

Apply morning and evening on clean face and neck and follow up with moisturiser. I have been using the product twice a day and as with most serums this will last long.

Price wise $69-$75 depending on where you buy is in line with other serum I have used before but for me did not have the same benefits.

Tips: Start with only a few drops on the back of your hand or you will end up with wasted product, its easier to add a few more drops.

B5 serum

I really love the smell of this serum it smells really clean and fresh. Has an interesting texture on skin like wet powder if that’s even a thing. I haven’t noticed if it has diminished any fine lines as of yet usually products like these take a couple weeks to kick in. Will definitely continue using

Amazing serum

I love this product! I have very dry, sensitive skin that reacts to a lot of products, and I find most serums make my skin worse. Not this one this. After the first use, my skin felt so much more hydrated and within a few days they had been a huge improvement. The appearance of my skin seemed calmer and not so red and it didn't feel tight. I will definitely use this again.

Tips: After putting the serum on your face, leave it for a few minutes before using your moisturiser

Simply the best

This is by far the best serum that I have ever used!

When I started using this serum in my skincare routine, my skin was dry. dull and my wrinkles were looking pretty obvious. I have been using this morning and night since receiving it and my skin has done a full 360. Its incredible how much it has changed. I have noticed that my wrinkles are less visible, my skin feels super hydrated and more alive!

I really love the water-gel texture too. Its not too runny nor too gooey. I like how the bottle has a screw top and the dropper/applicator thing is seperate to the bottle.

You get 30ml of serum for $74.99. To me its worth every cent! A little goes a very long way, It looks like I haven't really made a dent in it.

I highly recommend this serum. Its now a permanent part of my skincare routine and I will be repurchasing.

La Roche Posay® Hyalu B5 Serum

I was lucky to have been sent this serum for review. I use La Roche Posay sunscreen on my face daily and love it, so I was looking forward to trying another product.

I’m 38 now and starting to notice the changes in my skin, although it’s not dramatic yet. It’s starting to tend more towards being dry and tightening up but I don’t have very defined lines yet. (Maybe it’s avoiding the sun like the plague!)

I have been trialling this product for a week and a half and so far I’m happy with the results. In my normal routine I use an oil after cleansing instead of a serum, so the texture of this was not what I was used to. It was a little stickier and at first I worried that it wasn’t going to be my thing or that it would give my makeup a weird finish.

My concerns were unfounded. I found this keeps my face feeling soft and hydrated throughout the day. Honestly my skin was a bit of a mess coming out of lockdown as I was a bit lazier with my skin care routine and probably drank more beer than water! It’s starting to feel smoother and less parched. I got ID’ed at the supermarket on Friday, so maybe I’m looking younger? Haha.

I like the clear blue glass bottle with a handy dropper. I’m a little unsure if I was using the correct amount of product but my skin seems to be happy enough with what I was doing. The fragrance was quite pleasant and familiar but I can’t recall what it reminds me of. I feel like I would buy this again but it’s a little early to say whether I like it more than my usual oil. Cost-wise they are similar.

La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 Serum

I think my somewhat sensitive, temperamental skin just loves this brand! I received this to trial, and to be honest a little weary. I’m not the biggest user of serums but really need to start using them more. And this is one I’ll definitely continue using.

The good: it smells really good, refreshing and revitalising. It’s not too runny nor too thick so it is easy to apply without being messy. It comes in a great size - I’ve been using it everyday since I received it and feel like I’ve barely made a dent in it. I love the packaging - it feels premium and clean. And my skin feels nice and soft after applying. The best thing: it has not irritated my skin at all; not even redness after applying like I get with even basic moisturisers.

However, I haven’t noticed any difference in my skin. This could just be not using it for long enough or I just haven’t noticed anything. But considering it doesn’t irritate my skin and it’s nice to apply I will keep it up to see if it betters my skin in the long run. I would say don’t use it expecting an overnight result as this may not happen for you as it hasn’t for me. But it is a nice product that I don’t mind using longer term to see results.

Tips: Apply right before bed to clean skin to help feel relaxed and calm.

I enjoy using it, but why the silicone in it?

I love the chic packaging and the serum itself is such a good consistency, I’m used to very thin water-like serums or very thick ones. This one got the consistency perfect, not too thick, not too runny, also there’s no strong smell, there’s definitely a scent, small amount of fragrance, but so light and faint, can’t even notice it really. This serum feels very nice, it instantly smooths and plumps up my skin, my face was so soft I couldn’t stop touching it, it reminded me of the time I first tried a silicone primer. So I checked the ingredients and there’s silicone in this serum, probably to give you this instant smoothing sensation, so you’d think it works wonderfully. Not sure why a serum needs silicone in the formulation, it sure locks in moisture in the skin and protects from dirt and pollution, but definitely tricks us into thinking how fast it works in smoothing out our wrinkles when in fact it’s just filled out with silicone. It doesn’t irritate my skin, doesn’t leave a sticky feeling behind and it doesn’t clog my pores, I definitely haven’t had any reaction to it, just smooth and hydrated skin. I even tried this without my usual night cream and my skin was still hydrated in the morning, I usually can’t skip creams with my other serums. La Roche Posay sure knows how to formulate nice products that don’t irritate, I’m still a tad disappointed in the addition of dimethicone, as it tricks us into thinking how it works instantly. Well, it doesn’t, I can’t see any effects that would last or a huge difference in my skin yet after about 2 weeks of using it. Nice enough product, but definitely not worth the price tag. There are serums out there with no filler ingredients that are cheaper. However it works beautifully as a primer(thanks to dimethicone) and this is so good under my foundation, I don’t get any dry spots around my chin and I never look cakey. It’s best used on top of moisturiser when used as a primer! This would have been an instant repurchase for me if the ingredients would’ve been better, as I really enjoy using it both at night and under my makeup in the morning.

One of the best serums

I was lucky enough to be chosen to trial this serum. I have been using serums as a part of my skincare routine for the past few years as I age into mature skin.

The Hyalu B5 Serum comes in a white box with a picture of the serum bottle on it. As with other La Roche Posay products, the description and instructions for the product are written on the outside in several languages, including braille. Its key ingredients are listed as “hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, and madecassoside.” It claims to target “wrinkles, loss of volume and elasticity, tired and dull skin.” The serum itself comes in a 30ml blue glass bottle. Inside the box the serum has a white lid, and a dropper is enclosed in the box separately to the bottle. Instructions for using the serum are enclosed under the label on the back of the bottle. The instructions say to apply the serum in the morning and evening to the face, neck and décolleté. I usually only apply a face serum at night, but for the purposes of the trial I have been applying it in both the morning and evening.

I have applied the Hyalu B5 Serum twice a day since I received it. In the mornings and evenings I have applied 3 drops of the serum to my face: 1 on my forehead where I have the most fine lines, and 1 each on my checks, which I then massage down into my chin, neck and chest. I have then applied either my day cream or my night cream. The serum itself is clear and has nearly no scent. It is easy to apply to the face with the glass dropper. I love using droppers because they allow me to have a lot of control over the amount of product that I use. The serum absorbs well into the skin, although it leaves a slight tacky feeling. However, the upshot is that it makes a great primer for makeup. Since I have been using it I have noticed that my skin looks smoother and less creased. I have also been suffering from some skin scaling due to a little eczema. The serum has not irritated my skin at all. In fact it has helped it to heal faster. One of the ingredients it contains, madecassoside, apparently soothes irritated skin and helps with scaling.

Altogether, I am really enjoying using this serum. It is one of the best that I have tried. I will definitely continue to use it after the trial is over.

Such a great idea to have braille more products should do that.

Hiya Hyalu!

Really impressed so far.. you know how i can tell - when you accidentally swipe the wrong way on Instagram.. I am not met with shock and horror at the vision I am met with on the camera!!

Through lockdown I was a bit slack with some of my skincare routines - I tried to use up some old more natural based products etc and I also couldn't just walk into the store and grab a replacement so my skin was a clean slate for some testing.

The one thing I can rely on LRP for besides their usual blue and white packaging is that they have a range for most skin types and sensitive skin types! I rarely have to do patch tests with LRP as they are often developed for people with sensitive skin in mind.

So this is a dropper bottle and they haven't specified how much too use so I asked and 2-3 drops is all that's needed after cleansing, before moisturising in the PM and/or AM.

They say this is suitable for sensitive skin.. but also combination skin.. if you have acne I think they recommend trying a different range of theirs. I have combo skin and no acne so my skin was a perfect wee tester and soaked this up.

Its a clear runny gel like serum that you have to work quickly with to massage in as it is very easily absorbed. But it also isnt too runny - the dropper has a fairly large hole so it isn't thick but it also isn't too runny. I actually dont like the dropper too much you have to work quite fast but that is my only complaint!

It is quite perfumed but it doesn't last long on the skin and I also see the fragrance is a hypoallergenic fragrance so that's another plus. The ingredients list looks ok there is a small % alcohol but they have given good enough reason for this to be there when asked. I simply have not had great results from natural products that claim to do the equivalent so I generally do have to stick to wrinkle serums and creams that are less natural based.. sad but true for me. As with sensitive skin the choices are limited,

In terms of effectiveness I am not expecting a face lift in a jar but it is very good at delivering from a jar what they promise! I love they haven't stated reversal or wrinkles be gone etc they are very realistic! My skin appearance is not as shocking. My scold and frown lines are one huge indicator of this. They say fine lines look reduced , skin replumped, replenish skins moisture etc.... And it does this - it almost fills in the gaps and adds a moisture barrier that softens the look of lines and wrinkles. My skin is softer and I feel like my cell turnover has increased as its got more moisture and softness probably from being looked after.

Test it out at life pharmacy - they are really good with their range of testers now we are back at level 1.

Another winner LRP.

Good product - but I have a better alternative

I was lucky enough to receive these from Beauty Review to review. I love La Roche-Posay and regularly use their sunscreen so I was excited to try more of the skincare from this branch.

As you would expect the packaging is lovely. A blue glass bottle with a dropper to get the product. I found the dropper gave just the right amount of product for me to use.

Unfortunately what I didn’t like about this was the scent. I found it quite strong and a wee bit florally. I didn’t enjoy this product overall because of the scent as I found it even stung my eyes (no I didn’t get it in or near my eyes, just upper cheeks). However if you can get past this it is a lovely product. Very serum like and fluid application. I found my skin didn’t react to it and I enjoyed it.

I already use a hyaluronic with B5 from The Ordinary. It is very well priced and doesn’t have any scent at all. I will be repurchasing this as my skin loves it and it does what it should - which is to help hydrate your skin.
