What is the main reason you use a body lotion?

Body lotions are often left on the bathroom shelf and only used when we remember, or if we notice a part of our body being more dry than usual.  They're also a bit of an underrated product - they make our skin smooth, but can they really bring anything else to the table?

YES!

Just like our face, the skin covering the rest of our body benefits from TLC and from products that target it's issues. We should pay attention to the key ingredients in our body products just as we would for our face, and pick ingredients that will best fit our skin's needs.

There are so many reasons to use a body lotion so it's not surprising it can take testing a few products to find the one perfect for you.  So what are the benefits of a good body lotion?

  • To re-hydrate dried skin - it doesn't matter if its Summer or Winter, our skin needs hydration.  Dry skin flakes, chaps and cracks and can become irritated easily.  A moisturising lotion used daily will help soften and prevent further chafings.
  • To replenish extra dry or rough spots on the skin - elbows, knees, feet - they're all prone to being dry or rough.  Daily moisturising with a replenishing lotion can soften out these rough spots.
  • To feel good and relax - Nothing feels lovlier on tired and aching limbs than a nice, cool body lotion (except maybe having someone else to rub the lotion in!).
  • To smell good - ok we have deodorants, fragrances, body sprays, so why use a lotion to smell good?  A subtle, all over smell that isn't going to have your loved ones gasping for air!

We're putting the gorgeous Evolu Smoothing Body Lotion to the test.  Combining active botanicals this lotion will refine, soften and hydrate your skin, improving surface texture and promoting healthy circulation.

It's especially suitable for dry skin and targeting problem areas such as elbows, knees and heels, this lightweight lotion is readily absorbed, leaving your skin feeling smooth, softened and refreshed, with a divine natural scent and no oily after-feel.

The natural ingredients are expertly chosen and combined together create a body lotion that is anything but ordinary.

  • New Zealand pure spring water
  • Pure essential oils of Sweet Orange to rejuvenate and renew the skin.
  • New Zealand Kanuka brings anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
  • Lemon cools and purifies.
  • Lime is detoxifying and offers anti water-retention
  • Ylang Ylang is balancing and soothing
  • Sweet Almond and Avocado are rich in nutritive vitamins.

So tell us all about why you use a body lotion, do you simply slather it on when you need to - when your skin is already dry, or do you use it every day?  Is it ust the moisturising properties you look for in a body lotion?  Most importantly - have you found the perfect one yet?

I should really start using it everyday but at the moment I'm just using body lotion or moisturiser when I start to notice dry patches. At the moment it's on my arms where I haven't really noticed it before so I'm making sure I'm diligently using it. If it smells good though I'm definitely more inclined to use it more often for that purpose as well!

I love the ritual of covering myself head to toe in moisturiser. It's relaxing and part of my self care routine. I also find certain scents like vanilla and lavender calm me. I am always trying new moisturisers as I have not found a firm favourite yet. I would love to give this a go.

Oh oh, I am terrible at applying body lotion, but I really should start getting on to it! I usually only apply it when I notice my skin getting a bit scaly (which is usually my legs). I haven't found one I am in love with yet!

I mostly just use it for dry spots or any tight feeling skin! But the smell of the moisturiser is probably what makes me buy it!

I use it after showering cos I love the smell and it also makes me feel fresher and nicely moisturised - ready to take on the day!

I use lotion to keep my skin smooth and in good condition. I have eczema so I have to be very careful what I use, or I end up with painful damaged areas. :( the summer struggle is that I can't find a good gradual tan and self tan that's also gentle.

I'm actually really bad at using body lotions and moisturisers. I tend to only use them when my skin is dry. Reading this article I think I need to moisturise my body more often. And who doesn't love smelling good? I love the sound of this evolu lotion, and the fact that it's made from natural ingredients so I would love to try it and see what it's like

I use my body lotion more in winter because my skin gets very dry, maybe too hot showers? But I also use it in summer, when I want to pamper myself. I guess I should use it more often as the older I get I notice my skin is gettin a bit more dryer.

I use body lotion when I'm aware of dry skin - should definitely use it on a daily basis

I use a lotion, oil or cream every day after my morning shower. They have to work well in moisturising me and smell nice. I love this step in my day. This product looks very fab. May have to put it on my wish list.

I love body lotions, you get so much product for the same price usually as a smaller sized hand cream in the same range, so I feel free to pick a body lotion based on the scent and slather it on whenever the mood hits me. However, I don't always use it regularly but this winter, my skin has been feeling really dry so I have been shopping for body lotions that have good moisturising properties too (so I have been reading a lot of reviews!). I haven't found the perfect one yet, one which feels nice and is absorbed quickly, keeps my skin moisturised for a few hours at least and has a great scent but as I buy several body lotions a year (and haven't finished any of them) hopefully I'll find one soon.

I use it in my hands and arms as needed. I get very dry elbows and am always trying different creams to soften them but haven't come across a must have yet. This one looks great, would love to try
