Advertorial - In partnership with Braun.

by BR Amelia

It's that time of the year again...

Everywhere I look I'm seeing ads telling me it's time to book in to a beauty therapist for a wax or laser hair removal session. Long, toned, tanned limbs bare of hair are appearing all around me, reminding me not only that I can no longer hide the lush forest of hair that resides under my jeans and beneath my chunky woollen jumper, but that I'll need to give my lady garden a goodly prune before slipping into my bikini.

The thing is, I'm too shy to be baring all to a stranger, let alone allowing them to inflict the torture of hair removal upon me. I like to be in control. I also like to pinch my pennies. Which means, for me, hair removal is an at-home procedure. But what options are available that we can do ourselves, while saving some moolah while we're at it? Read on...

Epilation

Braun Beauty Set Nine 7-in-1 Deluxe Epilator

I don't know a single (admittedly female, apparently the boy types weren't 'gifted these' for their birthdays or Christmas) teenager of the 90s who wasn't traumatised by an epilator. Those early models gripped and ripped with no mercy. These days? Companies have done the work to make them a far kinder hair removal option. So much so that Beauty Review's founder Merilyn swears her Braun epilator is the absolute go-to for hair removal over any other option.

Waxing

At-home waxing kits make making your hairy bits history super simple - as long as you've got the technique right and follow the instructions. Pros? They're fast, simple and last a good few weeks before you have to deal with regrowth. Cons? There's the regrowth. You'll have to wait until your hair's grown in enough before re-waxing, which could mean walking around looking spikey for a week or two.

IPL

Braun Silk-expert Pro 5 - rated 4.8/5

IPL - aka intense pulsed light - is the best option for at-home hair removal if you're looking for lasting results. Yes, there is quite the initial monetary outlay, and it does require dedication and patience before all the hair is zapped into oblivion, BUT when you try IPL at-home you'll end up saving money big time compared to having it done by a beauty therapist, and once that hair's gone it's for a long, long time, if not permanently. Even better, you can shave in-between sessions, so there's no dealing with porcupine legs, armpits or bikini lines.

Shaving

The pros of shaving? Quite simply, it's a fast and effective method of whisking away hair at a moment's notice. The cons? You have to do it regularly if you're wanting to remain fuzz-free, and all those plastic razors piling up in landfill can create a case of the guilts.

Facial Wand

Braun FaceSpa Pro - rated 4.8/5

Taking to my facial hair with a big epilating machine feels like a no for me. The potential for it to go wrong feels immense. However, with a facial wand - such as the Braun FaceSpa Pro - you get an epilating attachment which makes removing hair on the itty bitty areas that a regular epilator shouldn't go near that much easier. Goodbye random middle-brow hairs! Au revoir to my Magnum PI-esque moustache!

Whatever option you choose, one thing's for sure - at-home hair removal is an efficient and affordable way to get rid of unwanted fuzz without having to bare any bits to a stranger and, as far as I'm concerned, that's nothing to split hairs about.

So, are you all about that at-home hair removal? Are you considering switching up your de-fuzzing? And if so, what method appeals most to you? Chat below!

I'm one of those teenagers of the 90s who tried an epilator once and then didn't go near one for the next few years. Now it's all I ever use on my legs.

The facial epilating machine I also find is a bit risky to use so I only use it for my upper lip and areas around my eyebrows, But I have found that I've messed up my eyebrows a few times so I steer clear of that.

Ooooh I would love the Nine 7 in 1 epilator. I got the Braun Silk Expert from BR a few years ago and I love it. I need to use it more often though. I work too much and don't have the time or energy to do anything too often.
