Lockdown: Are You Remaining Faithful to Your Pro?

Even though we're doing well, and a lot of the country is preparing to enter Level 3 later this week - for many that's just Level 4 with a bit more online shopping.

Our access, or lack thereof, to beauty services remains the same.  Hairdressers, salons and spas are closed and will be until Level 2.  For salon diehards, we're facing weeks, if not months without cuts, colours, eyelash extensions, tinting, waxing, infills...the list goes on.

With a lot more time on our hands, DIY products available in the supermarket, and from this week, readily online; I can't help but suppose that boredom is going to win out for many of us.   I predict an increase in DIY cuts, colours, hair removal and other salon services during the next couple of weeks.

I mean.  It's just so tempting.  What could go wrong, right?!

And then I saw a hairdresser friend share this meme; and it made me all a bit sad.

The impacts of COVID-19 on the economy as a whole is going to be immense and the consumer decision to wait, or to DIY is going to be impacted by lots of variables.  For some, finances have changed dramatically, and those salon visits aren't viable for the foreseeable.  For others, the emotional impact of 'not looking our best' will be mitigated by a bit of DIY.   And others will be able to wait it out, and help boost the small businesses around the country once we hit Level 2.

So, in our judgement-free zone, why not chat to us below, and tell us - are you waiting for your professional services, or will you be DIYing them?  What has impacted your choice?

I’ve had to resort to DIY a lot of things . I’m tweezing my eye brows . I’m using super market hair dye. I have natural nails too . I miss my eye brow threading lady so much . I’m doing a horrible job lol

I usually colour my own hair, those greys are getting more and more persistent, but for a cut I will have to wait. I havent painted my nails for a while, but I am trying to keep on top of my eye brows.

My eyebrows are horrendous and if I was staying home that would be fine but as an essential work all people can see are your eyes and eyebrows over the mask!

I haven't gone to my beauty therapist for over a year. I dyed my eyelashes and eye brows this afternoon though, and can see it would be beneficial to have her fix my eye brows.

I'm already a DIY girl. Hair, brows, nails.

I don't have a hair dress that I am loyal to.

I'm starting back at work under Level 2 conditions soon, and I caved and dyed my roots. Too much grey not to!

I'm inbetween the 2 answers because, a. I'm a qualified beauty therapist, so can do a lot of my own maintenance - manis, pedis, facials, waxing, brow tinting, shaping, etc. The only thing the first time level 4 was announced for 3 days I packed the stuff I needed for a weekend away and went to stay with a friend. The only things I brought is some stuff a mani and luckily I had my dipping powder polish removed a couple weeks before and a couple of face masks. I had some tinting stuff at my friend's place as I did my friend's eyebrows yesterday. I do have a full waxing kit but that stayed behind, luckily being half oriental my hair doesn't grow thick or fast.

Will be dying my hair this week, lockdown boredom. I colour my hair once a year when i get bored so now is a good time. Overdue for a hair cut so i look forward to doing that after lockdown. Actually maintenance in general, it could be months but i'll wait.

I need a haircut too . I can’t wait to do that . I’m not brave enough to cut it myself.
