Have You Checked Out Chebula?

If you've spent any amount of time hanging out here at Beauty Review, you'll know I'm the resident skincare geek. There's nothing I love more than to do deep dives into ingredients and discover new products, especially when a new-to-me ingredient is brought to my attention. The latest skincare ingredient to see me get my geek on? Chebula. So what is chebula, what does it do, and do we need to check it out? Read on...

What is chebula?

Chebula, also known as Terminalia chebula or Haritaki, is a tree most often found in the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. Long used in Ayurvedic medicine, in recent years the skincare community has cottoned on to its greatness.

What makes chebula so great in skincare?

Chebula's skincare super power is that its fruit is super rich in antioxidants, which makes it ideal for helping to protect skin from the damages of free radicals. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great option for those who experience sensitive skin.

Thanks to its rich levels of antioxidants, products containing chebula can work to keep fine lines at bay, while brightening and evening out skin tone, and reducing the look of hyperpigmentation. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it works to soothe irritation, redness and inflammation. And if that wasn't enough... chebula is also said to moisturise and hydrate skin. You might say it's the Swiss army knife of skincare ingredients.

What skincare products can I find chebula in?

Due to its wide-ranging skin-helping properties, chebula can be found as an ingredient in everything ranging from face masks to serums, oils to moisturisers, cleansers to toners.

How likely am I to react to it?

My scouring of the internet didn't turn up any major concerns in terms of reactions, however if you're going to try skincare featuring chebula - or any new skincare, for that matter - always patch test first.

So, have you tried chebula skincare? Does it sound like something you'd like to try? Or is checking out chebula not for you? Chat below!

Sounds like a wondrous ingredient to soothe, as well as moisturise and hydrate.. and much kinder than taking a Swiss Army knife to fix things!! I'd love to trial this magic in a bottle!
