5 Household Items To Use In Your Beauty Routine!

When we thing 'beauty tools' there's a tendency to think inside the square. Eyelash curlers. Tweezers. Crease brushes. Nail clippers. Things that we go into a pharmacy, department store or online beauty supplier to buy. But if you think outside of the usual, there's a fair few run-of-the-mill household objects that double as beauty tools - which a) saves money and b) saves shopping time therefore leaving more time to watch YouTube or binge a new tv show. Priorities and all that.

So what household objects do double duty? Check these out.

If you're a fan of mixing up your own homemade face masks, but don't like getting goopy fingers when applying, then a silicone pastry brush is a must! It does all the icky sticky work, and it's super easy to rinse off!

Woken up with a case of the puffy peepers? This is when it pays to keep two teaspoons in the freezer. Whip them out, run them under cold water (otherwise they can stick to your skin, ow!), then place them - curved side down - on top of your eyes, or underneath your eyes if that's where the problem is. All that chilliness is said to constrict blood vessels, which causes the de-puff.

Another teaspoon trick is to use one to curl your eyelashes. Warm it up by running it under warm water (not burning hot water - and make sure you do a touch test before applying to your eye region because we don't want any trips to the doc!), then take the teaspoon and place it horizontally along your upper lash line with the bottom bit pressed to your lash line (so the part that holds the sugar for your cup of tea or coffee is facing outwards), then you grip it in such a way that it creatse enough tension that the eyelashes are being pushed upwards. Hold this for fifteen to twenty seconds, then release and apply mascara.

Feeling a little oily? Grab a pack of coffee filter paper and get blotting! I know, it seems weird - but it's a thing, and apparently it works.

This is an oldy but a goodie, and therefore worth the mention, If you're wanting to get that perfect eyeliner flick, or aiming for a dramatic eyeshadow look, then a little sticky tape can help - not the super sticky kind though, because if you've done your foundation it will rip off product, and it can drag at the skin - and nobody needs that. Scotch tape is good! So take the tape, rip a little off, apply it to your face at the angle you'd like your shadow/liner to be on, then you do your eye makeup, whip it off - and there you have it, a sharp, perfect line.

Got a pack of dryer sheets tucked away somewhere? (And am I the only person to have never heard of these before?) Not only can they soften clothes and reduce static, if you run one over your flyaways they're meant to calm them down. Pop a few in a wee plastic bag and tuck them away in your purse for those unexpected attacks of the frizz!

One last trick? One that's going to rock - or roll - your world.

Give your face the ultimate lymphatic drainage massage with your trusty rolling pin! Pull it out, run it over the contours of your face and neck, taking it down to your chest and you'll roll your way to a less puffy, more contoured version of you!

Okay.. That one's a joke. I actually tried it to see if it would work, and it didn't. I'll stick to the jade roller I bought off ebay for $3.

So there you have it! Your double duty beauty household items. Are you down with them already? Do you use something random as a beauty tool that we need to know about? Chat away!
