Do You Use a Protectant When Heat Styling?

We all know that styling, colouring and environmental factors can damage our hair - but it doesn't stop us partaking now does it?!

Today we're talking about damage caused by heat styling, and no that's not just your straighteners!  With regular use, any form of styling using heat will inevitably lead to some damage; even your trusty hair dryer!

A really cool way to tell if your hair is suffering from heat damage is The Water Test.  When you next find a stray hair, run your finger nail down the shaft to curl it (like curling ribbon with scissors).  If when you drop the curled strand in a glass of water, it doesn't uncurl it means your hair has lost it's elasticity.  Heat styling is normally the cause - it causes the cuticle to lift up to lift up, releasing valuable moisture and leaving shafts brittle.

Now of course, there are lots of hair products for repairing damaged hair, but as your nanna would say; prevention is better than cure.  The easiest way to protect your hair is to use a Heat Protection Spray whenever you use ANY form of heat styling.

We're looking for 20 reviewers to put the Schwarzkopf got2b Guardian Angel spray to the test.  This spray will protect your hair from heat damage - up to 220 degrees!

If you'd like a spot on this trial team why not chat to us about your heat styling habits!  How often do you subject your hair to heat styling?  What heat tools do you regularly use?  And the burning question...are you currently using protection?!

Eek I know I should be using a heat protectant as my hairdresser tells me to! I sometimes straighten my hair and sometimes use a heated hairbrush but always use the hairdryer. I have gotten better as I at least don't use my hairdryer on full heat anymore!

I'm a sometimes heat protectant user. I know I should use it more often, especially as I straighten my hair most days. I'd love to try Schwarzkopf's got2b Guardian Angel spray

Need to find a good protector.....I use by GHDS every day either for straightening or waves....I have used fudge products!

I straighten and blow dry weekly and never use heat protectors because I'm afraid it will change the softness of my hair or make my straightener fizz with the dampness!

I'm bad and I know it.. I wash my hair every 2nd day so on wash days I will dry with the hairdryer then use my straightners.. with my hair being thick it takes ages to dry and being slightly curly underneath with a straightish layer on top my straightners get used quite a lot to tame the frizz of my mop.. would love to try this product to protect my hair.

This looks fabulous, me please! I straighten my hair at least twice a week, curls when I have a special get together to go to, heat protectant spray is a big must for me.

I sometimes use a heat protectant when straightening my hair but only if I remember and if the product is within reach. Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth using as I don't know if it does really work.

I use a hair dryer most times when I wash my hair as usually I am in a hurry to go somewhere and especially if I straighten it I use hair protectant most of the time as I have very fine and sensitive hair. I would be really enthusiastic to try this got2b heat protectant to see how it goes and to try another great brands new product out and see if it is one that I would look at switching to from my stylists recommendation which is horrendously expensive and I don't think works that well. I would love the chance to be one of the trialists and with fine high volume past shoulder length hair that can go frizzy it will be a good workout for it. I hope to hear from you soon, x-ing fingers I get this chance..

I've never tried a heat protectant product before, not sure if it would make much difference? I blow my hair every morning after my shower. Would be keen to see if they really do make any difference to the look and feel.

I'd love to give this a go! I have recently started straightening my hair again after having brought a new straightener.

Although I've never thought about using a hair protectant when blow drying my hair... oops

I previously had my long hair chemically straightened (it no longer is) and since then I have been really bad and use no heat protectant and I straighten my hair 4-5 times a week. Mental note to myself - BUY HEAT PROTECTANT!!!

I’ve tried a heap of different products from a range of brands, but the one I go back to time and time again is the keratise range cream, I find it works better at smoothing from the dryer and irons, I also use a little serum at the end to finish it off. My hair can’t cope with this daily though so I usually use a mask on a Sunday to give it chance to recover!

I know I’m terrible, but to my knowledge I’ve never used a heat protectant on my hair before! I blow dry my hair, dye it, straighten it, put treatments through it, you name it - I pretty much do everything except use a heat protectant! In fact, I have to admit that I only started thinking about heat protectants when the Beauty Crew put up their recent heat styling web poll question and then when I cast my vote, I felt rather sheepish as I suddenly realised I must be a ‘Hair Heathen’!! Lol. So this kind of product would certainly not be wasted on somebody like me, I’d give it a good, fair trial and be very keen to find out how it works on my hair.

I would use my curling iron more if it didn't fry my hair. My hair is natural and healthy and I have worked hard to get it this way but I don't want getting damage and undo all that even if a curl suits me. This would be great to trial.

I don’t often straighten my hair as I find it leaves my hair frizzy and there seems to be nothing that helps. I was advised by my hair stylist to try a protectant spray but the ones I’ve tried have made little difference. I would love to try this one out and see if it helps as I know plenty of my friends swear by their protective sprays.
