images and tutorial by Sophie Garth

By now she needs no introduction, so let's jump straight into our Makeup of the Week with Sophie Garth.

Check out Sophie's website and get following her on Instagram and Facebook.

This week it's not just 1 makeup look but 3! I couldn't get coloured mascara out of my head since the BR article about them. I know Benefit has released some but it almost physically pains me to pay over $40 for a mascara! So I finally got my hands on this baby: Avon SuperShock Brights Mascara in Royal. I know some of you ladies were a wee bit gun-shy with the coloured mascaras so I thought I'd give you some ideas...

So that we aren't here all day, let's just go through the eye looks. I've used the same base, brows and lip for all 3 looks (my lips were a bit stained in the first photo!)

Look 1

Products used:
  • ColourPop Eyeshadow in Hanky Panky
  • Avon Mega Effects liquid eyeliner
  • Avon SuperShock Brights Mascara in Royal
If you're a bit scared, why not start off simple:
  1. Apply 'Hanky Panky' (or any matte flesh toned eyshadow) from lashline to brow.
  2. Then using a liquid liner (I used Avon Mega Effects as it's marker-type tip makes it really easy for beginners) draw a line along your upper lashline and if you're feeling brave you could even pull it out into a wing!
  3. Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler and apply the mascara to both your top and bottom lashes.

Look 2.

Products used:

  • Maybelline The Nudes palette
  • Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner in Black
  • L'Oreal Paris Silkissime Eyeliner in Cobalt Blue
  • Too Faced Perfect Eyes Eyeliner in Black
  • Maybelline Volum' Express mascara in Black
  • Avon SuperShock Brights Mascara in Royal
Ok feeling a bit more brave?
  1. Start with a matte flesh tone again from lashline to brow. Then choose a shade or two darker and apply just to your eyelid and blend the edges.
  2. Now for the liquid liner! Drag the liner along your upper lashline and pull out into a wing. Draw the black eyeliner on your upper waterline and the blue eyeliner on your lower waterline.
  3. Next draw the blue eyeliner along your lower lashline from the inner corner up to meet your winged liquid liner. Blend this down a little bit but not so much that you lose the colour intensity.
  4. Now for the mascara, apply the black on your top lashes and the blue on your bottom lashes and you're done!

Look 3:

Products used:
  • Too Faced Return of Sexy palette
  • Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner in Black
  • Avon SuperShock Brights Mascara in Royal

Time to go to town!

  1. Apply 'Pink Diamond' from lashline to brow. Swipe 'Hopeless Romantic' along the crease and blend upward. Pat 'Icon' onto your lid and blend into the crease. Also drag this along your lower lashline.
  2. Place 'Primadonna' on the outer edge of your eyelid and blend outwards. You can also blend this along the lower lashline about one-third of the way.
  3. Apply the liquid liner along your upper lashline as closely to your lashes as you can manage.
  4. Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler and apply the mascara to both your top and bottom lashes.
I've gone for blue mascara for my blue eyes, purple or green would look great with green eyes and blue or green would be great with brown eyes...But just wear whatever makes you happy!

I loved the electric blue mascara and liners of the 80's, it was my look and I never went anywhere without it. I have tried it again in the last 10 years but it just doesn't work for me now at 50. The beautiful Sophie looks fab, especially look 3. Bring it back I say, an exciting bit of colour especially in summer.

My my the mascara is shocking! It' so stunning and statement I love it. I wonder if there are purple ones? I feel like that would work with my brown eyes better. So keen to try colored mascara now!

Amazing x you are so beautiful Ha ha iPad and doing my eyes step by step

19th August, 2015

These looks are so pretty. Blue mascara is my favourite, but I hadn't thought to try using it in different ways or to have several shades of blue mascara. I might need a belated birthday prezzie to myself - another one ;)

19th August, 2015

The last one is my fave. I would wear colored mascara if my lashes weren't so non-existent.

19th August, 2015

I saw lily pebbles with blue mascara just on the tips of her upper lashes and it looked amazing, have been meaning to try it (have a sealed blue mascara waiting for the opportunity!)
