How much would you spend on a discontinued nail polish?

Ladies, it may be time to raid your cupboards and drawers and hunt out those old bottles of nail polish because you may be sitting on a gold mine!

Lemmings as they like to be called or more commonly known as nail polish-obsessives are spending incredible amounts of money on nail polishes that are either discontinued or rare.

A bottle of discontinued nail polish can reach staggering prices on eBay with one bottle of the Holy Grail nail polish, Essie's Starry Night, a navy polish with silver glitter, recently being sold on eBay for $250.  Other shades such as Clarins' 230 polish, lovingly nicknamed 'Unicorn Pee' because of its burgundy to green, to gold and orange iridescent colour, which was discontinued in 2008, has been reaching prices of up to $157 new or $99 slightly used.

You would think with these crazy prices and intense interest that the cosmetic companies would be rushing to re-release these polishes or at least do a limited run, but one spokesperson for Clarins has told MailOnline that a re-run of 'Unicorn Pee' is not on the books.

Crazy? What do you think?

oh my.. this is taking obsession to a new level! Doesn't the polish get gluggy and ruined? or is it more as a collectors item that people purchase them at these staggering price? :( boo! I've been throwing mine out!

I think my husband would divorce me if I ever spent that much on a nail polish!!! Plus, I'd probably hardly ever wear it because i wouldn't want it to run out!!!

I find that now a days, really cool "limited edition" nail polishes aren't even limited edition as the companies continue to make them. A few years ago I purchased a bottle of OPI Katy Perry teenage dream, and loved it so much that I bought another bottle, but even a few years later I still see it wherever I go!

Wow id be one dead wife if i purchased a bottle of unicorn pee for over $100!!!

It seems a bit crazy to spend that much on a product such as nail polish when you can probably find a similar colour elsewhere but it just goes to show that people who are fanatical about something will go to great lengths to procure it.

There's always something about the words 'limited edition' that gets to me, but with the little money I have left, I have to really think logically about it. Knowing that it's discontinued I'd also have this niggly feeling that I should only use it on special occasion. So all in all, probably not worth it, however I still can't help it sometimes.

Wow. I could never pay that much for nail polish (even if I was crazy rich)! I'm a total bargain shopper!

Crazy!!! Surely they could find something similar on the market or at least mix a colour or 2 together! Eeek!!

wellI loved Revlons Iced silver (eyeshadow) but they no longer make it or make it as a single ....... I would have paid up to maybe 20 for a single or a double but not 45 for a small tiny quad ....... id hope that something discontinued would be at a discount rather than a premium

I would not pay this much, it's like a thousand dollar iPhone with Flappy Bird. I change nail polish frequently to match my moods and outfits, so def. a NO. But I am willing to pay a higher price for a discontinued skin product or lipstick, but it has never happened to me.

I'm a big fan of purchasing discontinued or deleted stock for rock bottom prices…looks like I won't be doing that with these! I wouldn't ever spend that much on a nail polish, seems like such a waste when there are so many colors out there!

definitely wouldnt pay over the top for a deleted line - I guess if you love it so much you would. I personally would think that deleted lines would be selling cheaper to get rid of them.

I wouldn't pay an over the top amount for an old product. We have so much variety now and even the most discerning buyer may find the right colour as a cheapo brand. Chances are it's a one off occasion for the colour match and honestly, who cares if it looks worse for wear the next day if the colour is right on the night.

I have paid quite big money for rare MAC products that were limited edition before. That was when i was living at home and had no bills or responsibilities though lol! I couldnt imagine paying big bucks for nail polish though! Cant believe it was called 'unicorn pee' HAHA

Wow that's crazy!!! I don't think I could ever pay that much for nail polish even if it was amazing...
