Love Love Love

It's pretty rare these days to find a moisturiser that does what it says it is going to do - and this one DEFINITELY DOES!

It claims to reduce severe imperfections and unclogs pores. Since I have been using it I haven't had to use nearly as much foundation as I have been in the past, mainly because it makes my skin look near perfect. It doesn't have any claims in terms of reducing wrinkles but I have noticed that this one wrinkle that I have by my right eyebrow has been looking not as noticeable, which is always good in my book. Like most face creams you don't need to use much. I probably use about half of a 10 cent coin, if that. I find that the amount that I use covers my whole face and makes my skin feel super soft. Being that it is paraben free and alcohol free means that it is not going to be damaging to my skin. I have also found that I can pretty much apply my make up straight after I have used the moisturiser. And for someone who doesn't have a lot of time in the morning to apply my make up, that is definitely a benefit. It has a non obtrusive smell, not overpowering and pretty much non existent. There is a slight smell but if you are someone who doesn't like their face creams to be super smelly then you will like this one. 40 mls doesn't sound like a lot, but you don't need to use much. It's going to last you a long time.

Definitely have found a new favourite

Tips: Don't use a lot of product. You don't need it. You're going to be amazed at how gorgeous your skin is going to look after you've used it for only a couple of days.

Lovely application and great for reducing redness

The cream was a dream to apply! It comes in a small tube that is easy to hold and super easy to squeeze as the tub retains its shape. It's also easy to control the amount used as the opening is quite narrow. It has a non-discript scent, and a non-greasy application. I have oily skin and really liked how my skin absorbed the product.

The cream is white, and very light to the touch, and spreads very evenly and thoroughly when applying it. It almost feels like a nice mask being applied but very lightweight, I loved using this as part of my morning and nightly routine, because it felt really lovely during application.

It's recommend to use twice daily, and helps with imperfections. I have some splotchy bits from scaring and the cream didn't irritate my skin. It dulled redness I have around my nose and chin area, gave me a smooth renewed skin appearance. I was really impressed the first time I used it, as I woke up and visibly saw a difference in my skin's appearance. I don't often use a product with salicylic acid and am keen to keep it as part of my routine, particularly when my skin is being irritable!

Highly recommend as a tool in your beauty kit.

Love the result but not the feel

You can just tell that this product is high quality and it definitely does what it says. I love that it’s not just whacking some product on spots and blocking up your skin more but actually clears out the pores and prevents scarring as well. I have a few red spots and scars from past spots so that’s definitely something I like.

The (probably silly) reason I won’t necessarily buy this product again is that it felt a little bit stiff on my skin, which is just a feeling I personally don’t like. I’m sure that’s just the product doing it’s job but for that reason alone it’s not for me long term.

I have been using this product consistently for a couple of weeks now and I’ve had great results so it’s definitely something I would recommend to others.

A Good Product But Not Effective On My Skin

I had tried this after seeing all the great reviews. It's promises to significantly reduces severe imperfections and unclogs sebum-blocked pores and to help prevent red or dark marks caused by acne, caught my eye.

Now I don't suffer from acne, just the odd breakout when my skin is throwing a tantrum. But over the years I had developed some small imperfections, blocked pores and scarring, so I was keen to see if this would smooth out those imperfections.

The tube has a fine tip to control product flow and to apply the cream has a silicone like feel, but absorbs fairly well.

I seemed to go through the product quite quickly and found that my skin became slightly more prone to breakouts than before.

So didn't work for my skin, but am still happily using up as a moisturizer in my make up bag.

Working it's (im)perfection magic

Effaclar Duo Plus works well. The 40 ml packaging is a good size, I would prefer a flip-top lid for more convenience but otherwise it is easy to use. My skin feels softer, less oily and definitely a reduction of acne while using this product. It has a light feel with a slight pleasant fragrance and is easy to apply, not greasy at all.

My only negative is the claim of a non-drying formula. I have combination skin, I did get dry patches on my face, particularly on and around my nose and cheeks, so I did find I needed to use a thicker moisturiser as well to hydrate parts of my skin. I feel with the day and night routine (twice a day application) my skin will smooth out imperfections, make my pores smaller and dry out acne before they pop up. Enjoying this product paired with the Foaming Gel.

Tips: You may need to use additional moisturiser to hydrate dryer patches of skin as this is a light product.

Like Magic :)

After washing my face I applied this product and went to bed. I was so happy when I woke up in the morning and my face was still smooth and there was no grease pit! It is in a great package and easy to use and you only need a tiny amount. There is no perfume but it does have a smell that I did need to get used to. The results after a week of using has cleared up my most of my adult acne.

Tips: Doesn’t work so well under make up.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo Plus

I wasn’t quite sure how to use this product when I first received it, and the packaging didn’t really tell me either (I googled it in the end). The product description certainly made it sound like a wonder product. I found it was moisturising enough in most places, but I was left with a dry patch in places between my eyebrows (even if I applied the product there!) - especially annoying when it came to apply foundation. I also still used my regular acne treatment, and most days also a normal moisturiser. So it kind of became an extra step that didn’t really seem to serve any real purpose.

It stated it was a perfect base for makeup, but I had to use my normal primer after applying to get the best base for my foundation. It claims to be ‘gel-cream’ but I wouldn’t really call it that gel-like, or that cream-like - more just like a standard light lotion. My face didn’t look flushed or noticeably red throughout the trial, so I think it may have been soothing and helped to reduce redness.

When I first received it I thought the tube was pretty small, but I actually think it’ll last quite a while so I’m happy on that front. I think I’ll bring it out again in Summer when it’s a bit warmer and my skin has less chance of drying out, and even then I think I might save it for once a day use rather than morning and evening. For the RRP though, I would not repurchase as I didn’t really find it special. I have other, cheaper products that do just as good a job.

Not for me

I had high hopes for Effaclar Duo(+) helping even out my imperfections, but found it didn't really live up to the claims.

The packaging is nice, very clean and clinical looking, functional and sturdy. However, the first hurdle in using this product is figuring out how! The instructions are very vague - the box says to apply after cleansing, but no extra info, and the tube says to apply to your whole face which at least rules it out as a spot treatment (though I'd have expected it to be a spot treatment from the itty bitty size of the tube!). It was very unclear whether this was supposed to replace moisturiser, or act as more of a treatment/serum step before moisturising.

I looked it up on their website which wasn't much more helpful, but they were pitching it as a 'gel-cream' with 'all-day-hydration' and as an 'excellent make-up base', so it sounded like it was supposed to replace moisturiser. I tried that for the first week and it was nowhere near moisturising enough for my skin. My oily skin will over compensate and produce even more oil if I'm not keeping my skin hydrated enough, so I quickly added my normal moisturiser back in after the Effaclar Duo(+).

I also found the product absorbed into my skin extremely quickly, meaning I needed a surprisingly large amount of product to cover my whole face. This would make it extremely expensive for me to use, as I'd say I went through at least 1/3 of the tube in just 3 weeks.

More importantly, I just didn't see any improvement in my skin. It wasn't any less red, more even, or smoother as promised. None of my red or brown marks, other imperfections, or hyperpigmentation reduced in appearance. Of all its claims the only one it delivered on for me was its non-greasy finish and matte appearance.

All in all, definitely not a winner for me.

La Roche Posey Effaclar Duo Plus

I used this product religiously throughout the 2 weeks I had it, and decided that in order to give this the best chance of working and see the efficacy of the product, I chose the to go makeup free all the time) with the exception of 2 days.

The product itself is sleekly and simply packaged - it's in a small white tube and is quite small in comparison to most other moisturisers, so I can see how it may be considered a bit on the costly side - 40ml at $32.99 RRP. That being said, you don't need a lot of product when applying. It is quite thin and runny unlike most other moisturisers which are a bit thicker in consistancy. It's halfway between a serum and a moisturiser, slightly too thick for a serum but too thin for a moisturiser. It's white in colour as per usual and had a very pleasant smell - it's quite sweet but I can't seem to figure out the exact scent of it.

The website and the product box claim that based off a study of 38 subjects : IMMEDIATELY: Skin is hydrated and mattified. AFTER 12 HOURS*: Redness and skin texture is improved and the appearance of imperfections is reduced. AFTER 8 DAYS**: Imperfections are significantly reduced.

I immediately agree with the claim that skin is mattified and hydrated. Hydration and mattification aren't exactly things you'd associate together, but this product definitely does both. I felt my skin was matte, but not so much to the point where my skin felt dehydrated or dry. Dry patches were not emphasized at all either. I have an extremely dry patch of skin on my left eye and at no point during the 2 weeks I was using this product was it accentuated. Usually it's dry and flakey but I found that aside from the odd flare up, it was pretty under control. My skin also stayed matte throughout the day. Normally, by lunch I look like I've doused my face (my nose especially) in baby oil, but I found that this product kept the oil at bay. It wasn't until 8pm or 9pm where I found that the oiliness started to peep through.

I wouldn't say my imperfections were significantly reduced, but I have noticed my skin is clearer and my hyperpigmentation and acne scarring is slightly less visible. I am of darker complexion so I do think this will take a significant amount of time for it to become drastically different to what it is currently.

I have noticed my pores are less noticeable, especially on my nose and the areas around it. Yes, you can still see them but they're not as prominent.

I think this is definitely something I'll incorporate into my routine. Although the fact this helps me stay matte is a big drawcard, the main aspects that interest me are the differences in my skin clarity and pores. I'd definitely recommend this to my fellow oily skin peers!
