Love For The Wrong Reason

I love this as a body scrub but wouldn't use it on my face. I'm a bigger fan of enzyme scrubs for my face but on the odd occasion I feel like using something with a bit of texture I like Avon's Anew Clinical Micro-Exfoliant because it's more finely milled.

St Ives Apricot Scrub

This scrub is ok - I'm not a personal fan mainly because I've found ones that are more effective, however for the price it's ok. I thought that the exfoliating bits in the product can be quite uneven in shape and sometimes can be quite scratchy.

Just be very careful! There is better

When I first got into looking after my skin this was one of the many products I used, simply because my mother was using it too!

I found it good at the time as I did suffer from quite a problematic skin so it provided me with that nice clean feeling and a great scrub to the skin. My face did go a bit red afterwards but when I was young I just thought that was normal.

This is a good wee product as it does provide you with a nice clean feeling at an affordable price...

Just... Please be careful when using it, as the exfoliating particles in it are quite big and can be harmful to the skin. For some people, like myself it can be just that little too much for the skin on the face.

However if you have just purchsed this products please dont stress. Just ensure you use a light pressure with it and maybe use it only 1-3 times a week (dependant on your skin type/ condition) and be sure to use a moisturiser or lotion afterwards just to restore the skin again. If it is a day lotion/ moisturiser you are applying make sure it has broadspectrum SPF in it as well. You can always use it as a body exfoliator too as the skin on your body is tougher than the skin on your face, so there are no worries there. It will help you get through it quiter too ;)

Tips: People have this misconception that they need to apply heaps of pressure to get a good clean from there exfoliator, this is not the case. Think of it like cleaning your teeth with an electric tooth brush.. Once you apply heaps of pressure, whats going to happen to the rotating head? Its going to stop. This is the same when applying too much pressure with your exfoliation, the granules are going to stop which is going to defeat the purpose of the routine. So light circular motions is all you need, your skin should not drag on contact.

Also I am just spreading this info as a side of caution and I am not naming any products in particular but just becareful with some that you may purchase from the supermarket or pharmacies etc as some particles in some exfoliators have rough edges to them instead of having a smooth surface. This can cause microscopic scratches in the skin therefore damaging the top layers of your skin providing in uneven texture and tone.

I will always recommend to everyone that you will always be best to go see a Beauty Therapist to get the right recommendations on your skin care as the products that are in the clinics are better formulated for the skin and yes I do understand that this cost money. But please trust me when I say it is worth it! However for those of you that cant quite afford it or just dont have the time at the moment please be careful, for the sake of your skin!

Once again feel free to leave a comment below if you have an questions as I am more than happy to help.. Im sure other Beauty Therapist will support me in this too ;) x

intense scrubbing

I use to love this before I realised the damage it was doing to my skin. It is a nice smelling product and give you The feeling you really have scrubbed properly. However this product is extremely rough on my face where the skin is so delicate so no longer continue to use this product unless for legs or feet.

Tips: As a skin specialist I have seen a lot of younger girls abuse their skin with this product. If use is unavoidable on use a maximum on 2 days a week!!! Important to not use for anymore than this as the exfoliation is to intense for a face scrub

Way too harsh

I would honestly not use this at all unless your skin can handle really harsh, rough scrubs. I can feel it doing damage to my skin and while it does feel smoother afterwards, it also feels dry and damaged. I can't believe that they would recommend a usage of 3 to 4 times a week as that seems too much even for less harsh scrubs.

I love the smell of apricots so that is a good thing but probably the only thing I like about this product.

Not for sensitive skin

I have very sensitive skin and though I would give this a try for an every once in awhile exfoliate. Every time I tried it I would get redness and ended up with a few breakouts. I think that it would be alright for some skin types, but feel like the scrub is too sharp and gritty for most skin types.

Guilty

While this scrub is absolutely incredible (!!!!) It works like a dream and does exactly what it says it will. However, research has been done on this exfoliator and its been discovered that the apricot kernels in it are terrible for your skin as they have extremely sharp edges thus causing micro tears on your skin, scarring and severely damaging your skin.

Tips: Try and find an alternative to this scrub. If you're after something with the 'natural' or 'organic' factor go after something that is dermatologists RECOMMENDED not tested :)

Not for Sensitive Skin

It does work wonders as a physical exfoliator, and if all you're looking for is pure brute force you can stop your search here. The problem with this scrub is the jagged little beads of apricot kernel. Rather than treating your skin to a gentle removal of dry skin they tear it off and cause irritation.

I find that after using this my skin is noticably smoother, but also more sensitive and definitely in need of moisture and a little TLC. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone with sensitive skin, or who wants to follow a more gentle cleansing regime.

Scrub a dub dub

I decided to use St Ives Apricot Scrub after many years of not using it and I have to say that I am not a big fan. The fragrance of it was so so and the scrub particles were few and far between. I ended using this as a skin exfoliant on my body instead as it ended up being counteractive and clogging up my pores. I don't think that this is the product for me.

Scrub

A relatively attractive tube with a very grainy pale apricot coloured cream, fragrance is a sweet floral. I find the we scrub particals quite hard on my face. And I think I end up just making my face a bit red and aggravate my skin a little. I do just a gental rub around, my skin doesn't feel stripped from moisture but I don't feel my skin is revealed for a nice fresh clean look. This is an affordable exfolliater and is quite possibly better on younger skin. It's a nice size tube and I'd say it would last for a while.
