Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear

This stuff is awful! I've seen many great reviews about this nail polish and seen bloggers post pictures of their beautifully manicured nails using this product.

I bought four different shades as I thought maybe I had a bad batch but nope the formula was bad for all four shades.

The nail varnish has a thin, milky texture which is prone to bubbling. I found it hard to make the colour opaque, even with three coats my nails were very streaky. The brush is OK but the formula is difficult to apply as it runs all over the place and settles into the cuticles.

Even though the formula is thin I still had difficulty getting this product to dry. As the polish never really dried completely I ended up smudging the polish and taking it off as it looked awful on my nails.

This is a very cheap nail varnish so it is worth purchasing to see if you like it or not. I am prone to have dreadful result with Sally Hansen products as this brand as a whole does not work well with my nail type (thin, dry and brittle).

On the plus side this brand does have a large color selection and there are some really beautiful shades.

Hard as nails? Nope but def beautiful!

I managed to get three of these gorgeous polishes a while back in the colours Crushed, Posh Plum and Cherry Red. I got these before I could ever afford or get my hands on the Sally Hansen Gel Polishes. I got them on a 20% off sale at my local Farmers store which is a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

The bottle shapes are so different to other polishes I have seen. They stand out and that's what I am all about. They are tall and thin rather than wide and bulky. The Crushed colour if a coral colour, the cherry red is exactly as it suggests and the posh plum is a magenta purple all with pearl finishes that look gorgeous once on the nails.

The brushes that they come with I actually like because the applicator is quite long which is perfect for my big hands. It means that is less likely that I would get it anywhere other than my nails. The brush itself is quite small and thin which makes it easier to get right to the edge without getting polish on my fingers but also means that it takes a few swipes to get polish all over the nail.

The real question, does it have the hard as nails stay power it suggests. In short no it doesn't BUT it lasts a few days longer than any cheap dollar store nail polish would without having to use more than two layers. This is with no clear coat. I put a clear coat over the top and one and half weeks later I only have minor chips but most of it is still firmly in place! That to me is good stay power but not great stay power. For that reason it gets three stars for performance. It doesn't take away from how gorgeous it is though.

Tips: Put a clear coat over the top to extend the life by another four days.

Some great polishes

I love this line of polishes from sally hansen. The brush applicator for this is so nice and so big and the brush bristles don't leave strokes which is so great. The colours are also really pigmented and with most of the colours you can get away with 2 coats. They also come in so many different colours and honestly the price is so great that you just can't pass up!

All Bright

Bought this from the makeup sale recently for an absolute steal, $4 in the shade all bright, a gorgeous bright pink! I am in love with it already, I've noticed that combined with the sally hansen big shiny top coat this lasts so much longer than my other polishes do with the same top coat. I normally apply two thin coats for opaque colour and then a top coat over top.

Sally H Didn't Get Xtreme Wear Time But More Wear

I really wanted a sort of magenta/pinkish plum shade with a creme finish. Luckily there just happened to be on sale so I bought Pep-plum. It's a sort of fuschia plum shade that I think would look great on most skin colors and would suit both warm and cool skin tones. I really like this shade on my nails. This polish is really thin when I did the first coat it looked really streaky and sheer in parts. The brush provided definitely isn't one I like for polishes, it's super thin and it's got a square tip. After two coats the polish does look better but it's still streaky. Three would've been better but I just don't have the time to do three coats. As far as lasting power I regularly use my nails as tools not jewels so of course my nail polish chipped on the thumb and the pointer and middle fingers on the second day. However the last two fingers held out without chipping till the fourth day. I wash dishes and cook and clean around the house, so I did expect some chipping than if I wasn't doing any housework. By the end of the fourth day which was the day I was cooking my mani looked really tacky and it just got worse from then. The polish was easy to remove with my non-acetone remover and didn't stain my nails. This line of polish suggests that your nails would be harder and stronger from wearing this but I don't think this gave my tips more durability while it was on. I later read via the Sally Hansen website that you can paint this on bare nails but I always use a base coat since I'm worried of polishes staining my nails. This is a really pretty color so I'll probably use it again but because the polish was streaky and the brush isn't my fave to work with, I don't think I'll be repurchasing.

Tips: Interestingly you can use this on bare nails. That being said if you do decide to go without a base coat I would recommend trying this on a lighter shade from the range as dark colors can stain nails. This polish is pretty streaky and sheer so you need at least two coats of color to get an okay mani. A top coat helps make the streaks but doesn't remove them. This is in no way the most long lasting polish I've use but lasts longer lasting compared to some really cheap polishes I've had. If you don't do much and don't cook or clean or wash dishes you'll probably get a few days wear with just a little chipping, especially if you used a top coat.

Xtreme wear in clear

To be honest I only bought this because you had to spend a certain amount at Farmers to get this GWP and I needed an extra few dollars. I am pleasantly surprised though, it's great for everyday wear when I can't be bothered having a full manicure on my hands.

The formula is very thin, and as a result dries super fast. I usually just do one coat of it on top of my bare nails for a slightly shinier 'natural' nail; or if I want it to look glossy I'd use two coats. I find that on its own as a clear polish it lasts about a week before it's so chipped that it's noticeable. However on top of a color polish it's not so long lasting, so I don't often use this as a top coat.

The brush is quite long and thin, which is fine since I only need to do a thin coat but I would have liked a thicker, wider brush. No idea why it's called 'hard as nails', as you'd probably need 10 coats for it to be equivalent to one coat of gel polish.

It's not bad, considering how cheap it is and that I can just do a quick coat and run out the door in 10 minutes.

Shade:Violet Voltage

One of my all time favourite nail polishes. Not necessairily for the wear time which is a solid 5 days, 2 coat applicaion.(base coat down first) But because I am in love with this specific shade. The formula is quite runny, which I am not so fond of but it dries down fast which is another good feature of this polish.

The brush is long and thin which makes for a slightly challenging application. I do prefer the shorter, wider brush as application is better and it's easier to get into the corners. I would repurchase as I like the brand, the quality and range of colours available.

Decent, inexpensive nail polish

I bought this in a red shade and have enjoyed wearing it many times. Positives are that the colour is intense (needing only one coat) and you can get many more applications out of one small bottle than you would expect. However, the polish doesn't really last without chipping any more than other nail polishes do - by the third day it has usually started to chip off (although I didn't use a base coat or top coat, which would have made it last longer).

Tips: Should probably use a base coat and top coat if you want this to last longer and don't want to stain your nails.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme wear

I own 3 shades: The Real Teal (sparkly teal), Mauve Over (pinkish), and Brick Wall (red).

I only bought them because I the colours. The thin brush isn't my fave and it seemed like the quality of the polish differs, depending on the formulations?

Every time I put them on I noticed that Brick Wall is less long lasting the rest, seemed to chip quicker. Mauve Over lasted the longest. The Real Teal has the best "happy" colour.

I own other cheaper brands that perform better. For that reason alone I'll only buy more if it's on sale, in a colour that I don't already owned.

Hard as nails

I purchased the baby pink hard as nails lacquer, I found it lasted ok but only with a few coats which took a while to dry. The colour and finish was very nice, but it did chip after a days

Tips: Try it with the hard as nails top coat, it may last longer
