A Safe Choice

The Maybelline Nudes Palette looks a little naked on the Maybelline wall as their only palette. So of course one has to buy it and give it a home amongst many palettes.

The Maybelline Nude palette is well engineered as they have very specificially chosen the placement of each shadow to inspire users to use the shades as duos, trios or quads. Or however they like of course.

This is all packaged in a nice classic black case that frames the shadows and the palette and just finishes the look off nicely.

My first impression of the packaging was that the whole product looked smaller than expected, but that stylewise it bet its competitor.

The shadows themselves are compact and well pigmented. They last all day and create a natural look.

I do think the palette at full price is a little over priced, and would only get it with 25% off at the Warehouse.

I do however look forward to seeing what palettes Maybelline bring out next because I do think this is a hole in the market currently in NZ. But the nude palette I think was a really good choice to test the waters.

Gift

My Aunt sent this from America before it came to NZ, I like the different amount of colours, I tend to go online and look at all the tutorials of different ways to use the Nude Palette.

Undecided

The first "Nudes" palette that Maybelline put out, they also have blushed, smokey and rockstar "Nudes" and a brights palette, not all released here which could be a good thing. The black packaging of this palette is nicely laid out but It would have been nice to have a mirror in this. It has a double sided sponge applicator with one end smaller than the other. It is smaller than some other palettes out there.

There is only 1 colour in the palette that I could suggest that you use as a highlighter. The shadows show up great in the pan but some transfer better to the lid than others if you don't prime, don't forget to prime it is the best way to get the most out of this palette. The colours are blendable with a little work. I have used some of the colours wet and dry with no problems. It is well milled with a good mix of colours.

If you are looking for a matte palette, put this palette down, there are no metallic colours here but there is sparkles in half the palette, if you don't mind the mix you can pick it back up. It does give ideas on colour mixes on the back of the palette but this is only a suggestion so go crazy with your mixes. I am on the fence about repurchase as it is good for a weekend away so you don't bring the whole make up collection.

The Nudes Palette

I think this is good if you're not looking to do really intense makeup but still a night time look. The colors aren't super pigmented but you can still work them into a nice smokey eye that's more subtle. I was a little disappointed at first that they weren't as intense as I was expecting but found this pallet really helpful for practicing new looks as It was harder to mess up the darker colours since I had to build them up.

A great selection

I’ve been looking for a wide selection of nude shadows for a long time that I could travel with.

You can create many different looks to carry you from day tonight. It’s great this also contains a black for a Smokey eye or great with a little water to create eye liner.

You have a few matte shades along with shimmers ranging from champagne, gold, to deep browns.

If you’re looking for a great all round pallet then this is it.

Tips: You will get fantastic result with using a eyeshadow primer.

Pick up from countdown when on special and you’ll save around $10.

A great beginners palette

I purchased this palette from splashstore about a month ago- kind of exciting since it hadn't quite hit other stores in NZ yet. The concept with the palette is that it is sorted into quads or trios so that you can do complete eye looks and it will coordinate with each other. The trios or quad combo's are shown in diagrams on the back of the palette which really takes the work out of deciding which colour will go with which. The pigmentation of this palette is not the most amazing, particularly for some of the matte shades, but it is pigmented enough that you can easily build up an eyeshadow look from more natural to more of a dramatic look which I like. I found the shadows to be really easily to apply and to blend. The only negatives I really found with this palette is that some of the shades are a bit similar to each other, and there is only a couple of shades I could use in the crease as this tended towards the more shimmery shades. Still, this is a great and totally affordable option particularly if you are just starting to build up your makeup collection. Would absolutely recommend this to others.

Thank you for answering all my questions (in my head haha). I'm with Lutece - I will be giving this one a pass as well, even though Sophie did an amazing look with the palette.

Maybelline is the New Nude

First of all - thank you so much BR for letting me be a part of this trial!

I received my palette on Friday evening and I just couldn't wait to give it a go! Saturday morning I decided to use it for my go-to work look and made a conscious decision to NOT use a primer on my lids to test out the longevity.

After a 9 hour work day I noticed that the shadow had shifted into my crease. Because it was a nude shade it wasn't such a big deal, but if it was a brighter shade it wouldn't have looked very good. I have oily lids so I was expecting this.

On Sunday I decided to swatch every shadow on my wrist to test the pigmentation, with and without primer. These shadows perform SO much better with a primer. I decided to leave them on my wrist all day - running around after my 2 year old, picking her up, putting her down, picking her up again and they had only faded a touch by 6pm.

Today I created a complete look using the central quad with all the shimmery shades in it. I do my eyes first to try and minimise fall out ruining my base, but I didn't find the fall out that big with these shadows - winning? Right now my make-up looks just as flawless as when I applied it, so we're looking good.

Overall I think I would definitely get this palette again, it has been very multi-use and so far has the only cool-toned brown I've managed to find for my brows. (thank goodness, YES!) I was a little bit disappointed with the lack of pigmentation of a couple of colours (shade #1 and #3 primarily) but the rest performed as I expected.

Would I recommend this to a friend? If you haven't already got a nude palette - definitely buy this one!

Tips: Definitely use a primer for these shadows - the pigment is very average by themselves. I recommend the E.L.F Eyelid Primer.

Good value palette

I have all the palettes in the urban decay naked range, and was keen to try this out to see how it compares to them as a cheaper alternative.

The packaging is nice and sturdy, doesn't feel too plasticky and cheap like some of the dupe palettes out there. The colours all go well together and there is a good explanation of the duos and trios and quads on the back of the packaging which is great for people who might be newer to shadow to make it easier for them to put colours together.

I found that the shadows are not as pigmented as the UD ones, and require a bit more layering and blending to get the colours payoff, but they have a nice texture.

I found that using an eyeshadow primer made a huge difference to the colour payoff I got, particularly with the lighter colours as they are a bit more chalky and don't apply as smoothly.

Overall it's a really nice little palette for a "drugstore" version of a higher end product, and good for those that want a nude palette without shelling out lots of $$. It's also a great pallette for those who want to practice and experiment with nudes before committing to a higher end product. I would still go for my urban decay naked range before I picked this up, but it's good for what it is!

Tips: Use a good eyeshadow primer to get the best colour payoff.

A classy number

I was fortunate to trial this product from BR. This is a stylish nude palette filled with colours to suit every skin tone. I liked the different eye look combinations illustrated on the back of the packaging; however I found I was selecting my own combinations that I thought worked with my eyes and skin tone. I always use a primer with any eye colour but I noticed you do need to build up the colour and blend. Some of the lighter shades didn’t really show up and some shades were a bit powdery. On the flip side some of the shades were beautifully pigmented and had a smooth blendable finish that lasted. I did use the sponge applicator that came with the palette which I think is a reasonable quality and I also used my own eye brushes when applying. Overall I like this palette, I am reaching for it daily and it’s been living in my makeup bag. It’s an all-round palette which has something to suit everyone and gives the opportunity to create some stunning eye looks.

Tips: If you can try and swatch this first to make sure you are happy with the colours and finishes.

Nice palette

This palette is really quite lovely, the colours in the range are gorgeous. Good mix of shimmery vs matte shades. I really liked how the palette is set up in a logical/complimentary way for you to use colours as duos, trios or quads. The packaging is nice and sturdy, but didn't like the brush (usually dont though). I recommend applyin with a proper eyeshadow bristly brush. In terms of staying power - I tried this on it's own with no base, and it creased within a couple of hours. (this my reason for a 4/5 rather tahn 5/5). I also tried it using the maybelline colour tattoo white shade as the base, and it really helped with the staying power. Using the right brush so you can pack it on will help as well. I am happy with this product and I am sure I will get awesome use out of it!

Tips: Use an eyeshadow base & proper brush to apply.

They never have a decent brush with any eyeshadow palettes. They always have the silly little sponge ends . I need a good brush or two :)
