Great for price

I purchased a variety of colors through my local Countdown in order to build up a better quality polish collection. I was really happy with the quality for the price!

Pro's: Affordable, easily found in supermarkets, often on sale, loads of options, lasts!

Con: Not amazing coverage. Needs at least two coats!

Tips: Make sure to let each coat dry completely for best coverage! Lighter colors need more coats

Mixed Reviews

I have a few of these polishes and they DO chip of course they do,I don't know why they would say they don't, the only thing i find doesn't chip is gel polish, but anyway I have a couple out of the normal range, out of the denims range and metallic also, I found they go on really well and smooth the brush is the right size, the pigment in the enamel for me personally pays off really well and 2 coats is perfect. I love the colour range theres no many to choose from and they are just beautiful.

They are not a polish for everyone but I really like them, they dry quickly which is a must for a busy woman on the go. I will happily buy and use these again, hopefully i dont come across a bad lot.

So overall I like nearly love these polishes but dont buy on the fact they say no chip cause they do chip.

Tips: When painting nails, go over the edge of the nail plate a little bit, this prolongs the enamel and prevents it chipping so fast. use both base and top coat as the colours can stain the nail plate

Good lacquer under 9$

There are few choices of nail lacquers under 9$ and I think Maybelline is one of the best choices. Their products can be found everywhere, in all supermarkets and pharmacies. Besides, the nail lacquers are cheap, I often get mine for special sale like 6$ each.

This line of Maybelline nail colours also come in many shades, there are at least 20 different colours you can choose from. With that price you can always have your own collection of nail polishes. I also like the fact that the polish dries up quite quickly.

Although I'm pleased with the price, I don't really like: The longevity: it's said to be a non-chipped lacquer but mine got chipped for less than two days.

The brush is too small and the "hair" makes it hard to create a smooth look for your nail. I personally prefer OPI and China Glaze as they have wonderful brushes.

Tips: Using a good base coat to prevent chipping. Applying 2-3 thin layers also helps to prolong the wear

Colourful

I have this nail polish in two shades: a grey and a black with gold glitter. I do really like the colour range of this nail polish as there are many options for a great price.

The two colours I have a fairly pigmented; I usually do about two coats and that seems to be fine. Like any brand, I would say the pigmentation and quality depend on the colours that you buy, so for my two I am happy. They come in a nice size bottle that is different from other brands (so easy to spot in your nail polish collection). The brush is ok - I have definitely used better but I have also used worse.

I do not believe that it is chip-free. It does chip after a little while, especially if you do not use a top and base coat. I have not had issues with it staining my nails as I do use a base coat and my colours are quite neutral.

Overall, it is an ok nail polish. I am happy with the colours that I have but I can't say I would rush out to buy more. I do like the colour range but I do not like that it does not live up to its "chip-free" claim. Worth a shot for the price though!

Tips: Base and top coat are necessary!

Maybelline Colour Show Nail Lacquer Review

got this from some one at a nail polish swap party because the deep purple shade appealed to me the bottle is small and cute but some would say that does not give you bang for your buck. As far as the chip free claim I think this is an average to good varnish but not great. Using a base and top coat would be helpful the formulation is quite thin so of course you need a few layers but generally you are supposed to do two coats of paint anyway. This products gets point for being free of some of the bad chemicals.

Needs improving

I have this product in black and white. When I apply this to my nails, I have to have at least apply 3 coats for it to look pigmented. If I were to use one coat it would look see through but have a little bit of color. The pigmentation is not so great and that is an important thing for nail polishes. It lasts for about 5 days without chipping I would say depending on how many coats you apply to your nail. It wastes a lot of product each time you use it. And it is well overpriced for the size.

Ice Queen

I bought this polish for $15 at the pharmacy - expecting it to be really good quality, value etc. But it wasn’t. My number one complaint is that it is too thin. And that’s really problematic.

The bottle is relatively smaller than any other polish I’ve ever purchased. Comparing them with other polishes, this one comes in 7ml whereas I normally get 13mls

the bottle is short and chubby, making the handle a little difficult to hold and manoeuvre. I do like the bottle however, nice and simple, except for the giant “Colour show” sticker on the front which makes it ugly, and is impossible to remove.

Now as for the polish, I got the shade “Ice Queen” which is a lovely dark lavender colour. The polish is really thin. Really really thin, so that it drips almost every where. You have to be very quick to put it on your nails.

Because it is so thin, I have to keep wiping off the excess of the brush to stop it dripping, but then I find there isn’t enough polish to cover the nail. You do need to experiment with it a little to see what works and what doesn’t.

It’s also really streaky. On the first coat it’s understandable as its a light colour, but then on the second coat I noticed that while putting it on - even though my first coat had completely dried, it not only streaked again, but it ruined and faded the first coat I’d put on, so I had white, un-polished patches here and there.

I did about 3 coats of this, and noticed it still wasn’t as opaque as i wanted it to be. I also have little cracks in the tips of my nails as they are long, and it failed to cover the cracks, where it does with any other polish.

It lasts about 3-4 days without any chipping, but I found that I got a tiny bit of fade at the tips within two days - really good considering it usually takes me one day to chip it - and I took 2 showers within the hour I painted my nails haha. It is however really easy to wash off the skin if you do paint around your nail. The drying time is also really significant. I say it can take up to half an hour, and it still feels heavy like it hasn’t dried.

The colours in the collection aren’t exactly original either, you can find any of these colours in any other polish brand.

unexpectedly nice

As I started to apply the polish my immediate thought was that I didn't like it and I'd put it in the pile for my girls to have - but once I put a second coat on and waited for it to dry I actually quite like the look of it. I think I'd use this for summery days, when I want something that looks a bit younger and fresher; but it won't be going into my stash for serious nail art.

Tips: Don't use this if you want a really opaque application.

Yes to the Clear, no to the Pink!

I own two of these polishes, Pinkalicious (170) and Clear (440).

I like the bright colour range but I wouldn't say the colour saturation is great, it's 'ok'. You definitely need at least two coats for total coverage.

I like the bottle shape and size, it is a straight up and down column and roughly 6cm tall. It isn't a contoured shape like many others and this makes it easy to unscrew the lid and also comfortable to hold while using.

The brush is too thin for me, it makes it harder to get a good clean coverage.

The shelf life is interesting. For the clear it is great! I have owned it for almost a year and it is still as thin and flowing as the day I purchased it. The pink on the other hand was gluggy and thick within 8 weeks! Both stored in the same draw out of any light.

It does wear quite well, I get 2 days chip free out of one polish which is pretty good.
