I purchased two of the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks after looking for a new, everyday shade and formula. These promised to be non-drying, pigmented and easy to apply, all packaged in a bright, girly tube. I purchased Peony and Nude. Peony wasn't the right pink for me, so I have only worn Nude.
Of course I have to mention the packaging. It’s gorgeous – girly, fun and fabulous whilst remaining sturdy and practical. I know many people don’t like the ‘unhygienic’ furry applicator, but I find that it provides an easy, accurate application. I don’t share my lip products and I don’t suffer from cold sores, so it doesn’t seem unhygienic for me. Compared to a standard lipstick or pencil product, this option does not deteriorate or loose its shape.
The formula is . . .fine. It is more drying than I expected, but I suppose the longevity of the product makes this necessary. When my lips are already a little dry, I can’t stand applying this product. It feels icky and really highlights the dryness of my lips. Although this product doesn’t immediately dry my lips out, I wouldn’t wear it two days in a row. Let that be a warning for those who struggle with dry lips. If my lips are in good condition this product is great. The pigmentation is high and it lasts a solid 4-5 hours. The shade does deepen on my lips after an hour. However the formula and shade isn’t anything special. It doesn’t make me feel fabulous, it does complete my makeup look, and it certainly doesn’t gather compliments from anyone in the street. It is fine, and I will use it, but I won’t be reaching for it on a special occasion or on a day where I need the confidence of Beyonce.
Final verdict: The packaging of this product is typical Too Faced – gorgeous and original. However the product inside is plain and drying. If there was a particular shade that you fell in love with – you may be able to combine it with a lip balm and be happy with the results, but I personally won’t be repurchasing.
One cannot simply make a claim of a product being long wearing and not live up to that. And I haven't come across anything that has lasted as well for so long as this lipstick. I have two of these, in Peony and Fig. And they won't be the last.
The application can be a bit tricky. I like to use a lip brush to get things a bit more precise. I also suspect that my Peony applicator is a bit of a dud as it is so hard to get the product out, but some kiwi DIY with a toothpick fixed it for the time being.
On the lips, the product is opaque, long wearing, but a bit drying. Definitely go for a lip balm before application. Both Peony and Fig lasted a good five hours, surviving multiple coffees, shakes, and a lunch before needing a slight touch up as bits had gone a bit patchy, but the colour hadn't vanished greatly. They don't have any distinct smell either and I've noticed that the applicator tip presses down when you close off the tube, which I think will help the product last longer, correct me if I'm wrong!
Tips: Exfoliate, moisturise and use a lip brush for a more precise application.
