A little beauty

Right, so when I got pregnant back in 2013 my hair type changed. Apparently, it's a common pregnancy thing but it was news to me. My easy to care for hair (if slightly sensitive scalp) was gone and in its place I had an oily, greasy, slimeball mess. Two babies within 15 months meant my hair took a hammering and I'm still trying to figure out how exactly to look after this new hair, even though my youngest is now 2.

I've tried ALL the oily hair products, the 'no poo' thang, everything. I found other systems over-stripped my hair of natural oil, which led to it creating more oil to compensate, which led me back to a greasy square one. I've used clay on my face, so why not my hair?

The whole system (clay mask, shampoo, conditioner, and dry shampoo) works beautifully together, but works just as well as separates too. It is effective, easy to use and super affordable. Every product did what it said it would, every product worked perfectly together. My hair was clean, smooth, shiny and manageable (no knots!). I was able to go 4 days without feeling a little oily, normally that happens within 24 hours!

I'm really excited about this range - it's a new essential in my bathroom.

Tips: The whole 4-step Extraordinary Clay system is a wonderful product, but each step can work by itself too.

Clay Range

Overall I loved all of the products. The clay mask works great with the shampoo and conditioner meaning I didn't have to wash my hair as often. I found it left my hair feeling soft and clean and certainly not looking as limp as it usually does. The dry shampoo was great as a quick refresh in between washes. The scent of these products aside from the clay mask is nice and lasts all day for me, which I really like. Both the shampoo and conditioner seem thicker than others so you don't need as much, and only applying shampoo to roots and conditioner to the lengths and not roots mean you don't need as much also. I did find that being cleaner these products except the dry shampoo left my hair more knotty. Brushing hair before washing does help a little. I also found that the dry shampoo lessened the knots in my hair and it was more manageable. For me personally I have found these products to be great for my hair.

Tips: Clay mask is best used when you have a bit of extra time.

Even worked on drier hair!

Sooo I have the oiliest hair. But in between submitting the Beauty Review survey and getting the product I bleached my hair three times. My ends became mega dry but my roots stayed the same in terms of oil.

Pros: light-weight shampoo, nil build-up after several uses (I usually find most ranges are fine for 2-3 washes, then I get a thick film build-up on my hair). I found the conditioner still nourishing enough for my ends. The dry shampoo actually meant I could get 3 days between washes, which is unheard of for me. Usually, I would be ashamed to go to work by then because of greasy hair, but it still looked fresh. Great price, like the rest of the range they are within a price point I am happy to pay. There is also a wide availability and you should be able to get it at most supermarkets and some pharmacies.

Cons: I didn't feel I got much benefit from the pre-treatment product. It was another step that, although easy I feel like I'd forget to do if I wasn't on the trial team.

Tips: Try using a bristle paddle brush to get the dry shampoo through the hair. I use a faux boar bristle one, which worked better than with a comb or tangle teaser.

Goodbye Oily Roots

Overall this range works as stated. My hair is coloured and I often struggle with oily roots and dry ends. After using the mask, shampoo & conditioner and allowing my hair to dry, I could see and feel the difference. It was shiny, soft and smelling fabulous! Brushing my hair wet or dry was not a problem. I did not need to use any other products as I sometimes would have to get the brush through my long locks. For me, the results lasted 24-36 hours and not the 72 hours they claim. It would be a better statement to say they work 'up to' not 'for' 72 hours. The packaging colour choice for this range is an aqua green, not the natural colour you would expect for something with '3 types of precious clay' in my opinion. All products were easy to handle, open and close. The shampoo and conditioner have good flat lids to ensure the do not fall over. They are easy to open and close with one hand. The fragrance was pleasant in all except the Detox Clay Mask where the clay smell had almost overpowered it completely. It gave it a more earthy smell which is what I would expect from a clay product. Overall, I would say this range does what it says but for how long will depend on each individual. I would recommend this to anyone who suffers from oily roots and dry ends.

Tips: Sit the clay mask in a warm place before use to help get an even application. The instructions for the Mask are under the sticker on the lid. Don't wear black clothing when using the dry shampoo as it leaves white marks if you over spray.

Hair Problem Solver!

I have always struggled to find Shampoo and Conditioners that do what I need for my hair. I have always struggled with dry frizzy ends and oily roots. THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING, after only a week of using my hair feels softer and healthier. I have found my new go to product!

Tips: Massage the shampoo into your head and leave in for a few minutes before washing out, repeat with conditioner as usual. You don't need to use the hair mask every time you wash your hair I use it maybe once a week now :)

Combination Hair, Nightmare No More!

Like my combination skin, my hair becomes oily at the roots very quickly while the ends remain quite dry, so I was over the moon when I was picked to trial L’Oreal Paris ELVIVE Extraordinary Clay Range.

Firstly, the L’Oreal Paris ELVIVE Extraordinary Clay Range consists of 4 products which are a Detox Clay Mask, Rebalancing Shampoo, Detox Conditioner and a Dry Shampoo and come in eye-catching, aqua blue colour, sturdy packaging. Both the Rebalancing Shampoo and the Detox Conditioner have flat lids that open and close easily and the product dispensed, is easily controlled. The whole range has a gorgeously fresh, light smell.

To start with, I used the Detox Clay Mask which is a pre-shampoo treatment and designed to be used once or twice a week. The product is the same aqua blue colour as the packaging and is of a thick consistency. The Clay Mask works by absorbing excessive oils and impurities, thoroughly cleansing the scalp and removes any product build-up that tends to weigh hair down. I massaged plenty of this clay masque into my roots using my fingertips, left it for 5 minutes and then rinsed off ready to apply the Rebalancing Shampoo. At this stage, my hair felt clean, refreshed and the product was soothing to my scalp.

I massaged the Rebalancing Shampoo into my scalp using my fingertips causing the shampoo to lather up nicely. The Rebalancing Shampoo is not too thick and not too watery, a perfect shampoo consistency and washed out easily leaving no residue.

Next, I applied the Detox Conditioner, paying particular attention to my dry ends. I left the conditioner on my hair for 3 minutes before combing through and then rinsed leaving my dry ends feeling hydrated, softer and tangle free.

After blow drying, my hair felt super clean, light and so lovely and soft and after 72 hours, just a tiny bit of oil on my fringe (I expect from the oily skin on my forehead), so I gave the Dry Shampoo a go. I sprayed my hair with the product which dispensed as a fine mist and left for 2 minutes, after which I brushed through leaving no trace of any powder or residue whatsoever. Just lovely, clean, shiny hair :).

Tips: Apply the Detox Conditioner to mid lengths and ends.

Oil be Gone!

My hair usually gets oily within few hours after washing my hair, so I was excited to get chosen to trial the L’oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay range. The range consists of 4 products; the detox clay mask, rebalancing shampoo, detox shampoo and dry shampoo.

Before I hopped into the shower, I scooped a little detox clay mask with my fingers and massaged it onto dry roots on my scalp. I did this with every section of my hair and left it on for 5 minutes. I found that even though the texture of the mask is thick, it was very easy to massage it into my scalp. Once I’ve given enough time for the clay mask to soak in, I washed it off in the shower in a massaging motion until the water ran clear. While I was washing my hair in running water I noticed, the greasy and oily feel my hair had before I applied the mask was gone. I followed my hair washing ritual with the shampoo and conditioner in the same range. I’ve also used the shampoo and conditioner without using the clay mask and I found the clay mask makes a significant difference to the oiliness of my hair.

I tried the rebalancing shampoo after I’ve used the clay mask and followed the instructions on the bottle. I have medium length hair, so I used about $2 coin amount of shampoo. I massaged it into wet hair, covering my whole scalp and rinsed it out until the water ran clear. Often with other shampoos, I had to wash my hair twice in the shower because I could still feel the oil in my hair. With the rebalancing shampoo my hair felt very clean and oil free after one wash. I then followed it with the hair conditioner of the same range.

I applied the detox conditioner after I applied the rebalancing shampoo and followed the instructions on the bottle. It doesn’t say how much to use, so I squeezed two pea size amount into my palm and applied the conditioner onto my hair, only focusing from the mid-length to the ends of my hair. I left it into my hair for about 2-3 minutes and washed it out until the water ran clear. My hair was very soft after I washed it.

I wash my hair everyday second day, so I used the dry shampoo on days I haven’t washed my hair. I followed the instructions on the bottle. I shook the bottle well and sprayed it to my roots from 15 cm above my hair. I did this to each section of my hair, only targeting the roots and let it soak in for 2 minutes. Once it has set, I lightly brushed it with a comb. I was very disappointed and unimpressed with this dry shampoo. The dry shampoo didn’t absorb the oil like it said it would, instead made my hair very greasy, sticky and even oilier. The worst part was my scalp got very itchy and uncomfortable.

I liked using the detox clay mask, rebalancing shampoo and detox conditioner for my hair washing ritual as my hair felt very light and soft while leaving my hair smelling lovely. The best part was, my hair was oil free for 2 days. I wouldn’t use the dry shampoo again at all because it made my hair and scalp in a horrible condition.

Tips: Use the detox clay mask, rebalancing shampoo and detox conditioner for the best results for oil free hair.

Silky but not Oily

Absolutely loved the products in this range and would highly recommend these to all my oily haired ladies out there. After using the mask from this range, I used the shampoo and the smell was very pleasant. Now because I have thick hair with oily roots, I would normally double or triple wash but from the first wash I knew i didn't need much more although I did a double wash out of habit. The texture of the shampoo was smooth lathered very easily. As I washed off the shampoo, my hair didn't feel heavy, it was light and I felt that it had thoroughly cleaned my hair. Most shampoo's that I have tired left my hair feeling silky which added to the oiliness of my scalp. From this shampoo, my hair was left smooth. When my hair had dried, my hair was light and silky without any heaviness. I go to the gym quite frequently and run quite a lot which makes my hair a lot oilier that it usually is but it has been about 4 days now and it is just starting to get a little bit oily. I recommend using the shampoo in conjunction with the Clay Mask and the conditioner as they compliment each other well. Really recommend this product, it works just as well as the Kerastase Specifique that I currently use but a lot cheaper.

Worth every penny

I'm giving a 7-day review for this shampoo, which I really liked.

Day 1

I used the clay mask then applied shampoo and conditioner afterward. The shampoo is foamy so just apply a little, because a little goes a long way with this one.

Day 2

I didn't use any hair products so I can see the actual results of the shampoo. The result is amazing because before, my hair starts to get oily on day 2 but with this shampoo, my hair didn't get oily at all.

Day 3

I didn't use any hair products again to see the actual results. When I woke up, my hair is getting a BIT oily, just a bit. It stayed like that all day. I'm so impressed with this product!

Day 4

I used the dry shampoo to make my hair fresh throughout the day. It works wonders because the effect is really nice and last long enough for a day. I washed my hair during the night because I want it to be clean again.

Day 5

I didn't use any hair product. I noticed that my hair is beginning to be more manageable and easy to comb. The ends of my hair is not that tangled anymore.

Day 6

I didn't use any hair product. Still, my hair is not oily unlike before. I'm getting to love this product more and more!

Day 7

My final verdict, I washed my hair to make it fresh and clean. I really like the smell of the shampoo, non-irritating and it's thrifty to use because with just a little shampoo your hair will foam a lot!

If you have a really oily hair and don't like to wash your hair every other day like me, then you should give this shampoo a try. I really like it and it does what it says.
