Not that matte

Although I have repurchased this a few times, I'm still kind of torn, mainly because I haven't found any other primers that work any better.

The packaging is kind of plain and the tube makes it really hard to get the last bit of product out at the end unless you cut it. I would have preferred different packaging.

It is probably the thickest primer I have used as it comes out of the tube as a thick white paste. That being said, it applies quite nicely and doesn't leave any of the colour behind which I was worried about.

It makes quite a nice base to most of the foundations I own, although it doesn't keep my foundation as matte as I would like. I have oily to combination skin and I thought that this might stop the oil showing through, but it didn't.

For the price I can't really complain as it does its job for the most part. Might be better suited to people with skin thats not too oily as this can affect it, but overall, I would recommend this primer to most people trying to find something cheap that does its job.

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

My skin is dry or prone to flakiness in the morning, and an oil slick by lunch time. Therefore, when seeking out a primer I’m always on the lookout for one that will give me a matte finish as well as helping my makeup go on smoothly. This primer, like others I have tried, did give me a nice smooth base that allowed me to then apply my foundation on afterwards without it getting stuck on any dry patches.

Unfortunately I didn’t see any real difference in terms of how matte my skin looked directly after applying or throughout the day whether I used this primer or not. It also didn’t minimise the appearance of pores (which I’m pretty sceptical any product can truly do anyway). It did deliver on its promise to not feel greasy or heavy - however I’m left wondering if maybe the texture did need to be slightly heavier in order to provide more of a matte base? It is reasonably priced though, so I would recommend it if you have normal to slightly oily skin. However, I’m still on the search for a primer that will truly help mattify my skin.

OK I guess..

This was the first matte primer I purchased so don't really have anything else to compare it to. That being said, I probably wouldn't repurchase.

I have oily/combination skin and tend to get quite shiny in the t-zone during the day. I found that although this product helped keep the rest of my face matte (less oily) during the day, it didn't really work around and on my nose. This was because I had such an issue applying makeup on my nose after putting this on my face, my foundation just wouldn't stick on my nose and would be really patchy and my pores were just accentuated more than usual. It's super thick, so much so that at times I found it hard to blend into my skin.

Was Okay

I picked this up when farmers had 30% off Rimmel as I had been wanting to try this for ages! I had literally gone and picked it up and put it down so many times but when it was on sale I finally picked it up.

It comes in a white tube with a purple lid and is quite small, I guess with primers they go a long way so you don't want heaps of product when purchasing but its so inexpensive you don't really notice. I prefer a pump primer than a tube though as I don't like to estimate how much product I need (I always over estimate).

The product itself is quite a thick white paste like liquid, it's a lot thicker than other primers I've tried. The smell is almost like sunscreen but not quite, its very mild so you don't notice it at all but I do like that it's not artificially fragranced. It goes from white to clear and I would say it has more of a satin finish than matte as it doesn't take all the shine from my face and it doesn't feel drying or anything like a matte one would.

I also was under the impression it would make the finish of my makeup matte but all my dewey foundations still remain dewey, they just don't budge at all. I really like the staying power of the primer and my make up stays put all day but is super easy to remove, its a win win! I actually prefer that its not a mattifying primer for my whole look as I do prefer dewey makeup.

I'm not to sure if I'd buy this again, I do want to try some other primers but this could make its way permanently into my makeup bag. Summer will be the true test for how good this primer is. Its nothing amazing but it is quite good for the price and does pretty much do whats asked of it.

Matte- Yes. Pore minimizing- No.

This product does make me really matte. Probably a bit too matte in some patches on my face. It sort of accentuated some minor dry patches so I think it is best to really concentrate this on your T zone area.

This product does absolutely nothing for pore minimizing. If anything, I would say my pores look bigger after using it.

I think I might pass this product on to someone with more oily skin. I prefer a more smoothing primer and mattifying with a powder at the end of my routine.

Stay... Matte?

A few Christmases ago my wonderful friend Shana gifted me a tube of this primer. I was excited as it was on my BR wishlist and I had been wanting to try it for a while!

The tube is quite attractive to my eye, white and purple look nice together! Inside the white primer sits, waiting to be put on my face. The first few times I used it I used quite a lot of product but I’ve learned less is more and so I use a pea sized amount, if that. I never noticed any smell with it either, which was a bonus and made my face happy.

It applies really easily, but for a matte primer I find it feels really greasy against my skin. I let it sit for a minute or so while I get my foundation ready. Foundation applies alright over top, but after a few hours I notice that my nose and chin are greasy again, so that defeats the purpose of it being matte. I also don’t think it minimised pores, and as I said, it definitely doesn’t last 8 hours. Not something I would repurchase, unfortunately.

Stay Matte

I bought this to use under my liquid foundation to stop me from looking shiny and I'm really not a fan. Not sure if it's my technique or I just don't like the matte look. It makes any foundation applied over top look cakey and dry and I find it makes everything cling to the tiny hairs on my face, which is not a great look. Other people seem to love it so maybe it's my skin that's not oily enough for it to work properly.

Matte, but makes makeup application difficult

I'm an oily skinned person, and am always after mattifying primers and foundations, so I thought I'd give this a go but I wish I hadn't.

The product comes with a generous amount of primer 30mL, this had more product in it than other primers similarly priced in my area. It comes in a pretty white and purple tube with the image of a crown, and it is easy to squeeze the product out. Unfortunately the writing on the packaging is off-centre on mine, making this look a bit cheap. The primer is white and looks a bit like a thin moisturizer. Now I have oily skin, yet I find this really difficult to rub into my skin, it feels like I'm pulling and tugging my skin to apply this.

When applied to my bare face, my skin is mattified and my pores are reduced/dissappear. However, my skin is left feeling incredibly dry. Whilst I do want a matte base, I don't want dry skin as primers are supposed to help foundation to glide on the skin, not make it more difficult to apply.

I have used other mattifying primers in the past, and they make my skin matte, but not incredibly dry so I'm not sure why this one does. I tried this with the L'Oreal Infallible Matte foundation. I found this dried my skin out so much that it was impossible to blend my foundation and my skin was left looking cakey, and it went shiny within an hour (the foundation doesn't do this by itself, so it was the primer). I thought perhaps the product didn't like the foundation so I tried it with a couple of BB Creams from different brands and once again-overly dry skin, impossible to blend BB Cream due to dryness and looking shinier than ever! Perhaps this works with the Stay Matte foundation, but I'm not a fan of primers that only work with one particular product.

This seems to work for others, so perhaps it's just a matter of finding a product that works with it. I wouldn't repurchase this as it did not make my make up stay matte-it made it oilier, and it made my makeup so difficult to apply. I think I'll stick to the more expensive mattifying primers.

nope

I grabbed this in a hurry as I needed a Primer for that night & didn't want to spend more than $20. This was all Farmers had for under $20 at the time. What a waste of money!

I find it thick & heavy and it just sits on my skin and everything on top slides off. It does minimise the appearance of my pores but that's useless when my foundation just slides off or sits strange. I found where I have hair on my face (upper lip, close to hairline) it did this weird thing where it kind of separated a bit.

Tips: Don't bother

Not so Matte

I can get quite oily skin, but it usually doesn't tend to happen till the afternoon at work.

This felt good going on and seemed like it could be a winner, but every time I've tired it it does the opposite for me, I would be oilier earlier and felt really gross.

It doesn't have any smell and the product itself doesn't feel oily on application.

Really dis pointed lucky it was a trademe purchase just to see if I liked it.

It is a good sized tube, maybe it will work for others
