Great new foundation format!

I was lucky enough to be selected by BR to trial this new Loreal foundation. I selected the shade Porcelain 01 as that was the most complementary for my skin tone. This foundation is in a totally different format to anything I've ever used before. You take the little applicator sponge and press it against the cushion and you apply it like you would with a normal foundation applicator wedge. This foundation, I think, is most like a liquid foundation. Because of the cushion you don't get too much out at once so there's no wastage of product. The packaging is really pretty and cute and the mirror is a good size. I used this foundation on my skin with only a moisturiser underneath, no primer. Even though I didn't use a primer it lasted well all day on my skin so I was impressed by that. It has good coverage the first coat gives you light coverage but another coat and you have a really good medium coverage. This foundation sat really well on my skin and blended in beautifully. The colour of the foundation was pretty good and it definitely gave me a natural healthy glow as the product claimed it would. I was using a MAC liquid foundation prior to this so I thought it would be hard to satisfy my expectations but they have been well exceeded. I really enjoyed trialling this foundation and will definitely be using it until it runs out. I would repurchase this foundation and will be interested to see how long this compact lasts.

Awesome idea

After using this product for a week it has proved everything L'Oreal claimed it would do. The foundation comes in a lovely wee compact that was great to take on the go for a post lunchtime workout touch up. I would agree that it is light to medium coverage, like a BB cream but a little heavier. I didn't mind it too much considering I usually do like a fuller coverage foundation. The colour match was perfect too, I got 03 vanilla and it was such a good match which was nice as I have been struggling to find a good match with other brands. The foundation made my skin look nice and glowy without being greasy. One thing I didn't like was the applicator sponge. I found it didn't really work that great for really getting the foundation to sit on the skin and in some of my deeper pores, so I used my beauty blender with it and it sat much better on my skin.

Pillow fight... Cushion to the face!

I was really excited to be selected for this trial. It arrived & my first impression was damn, this is sooo adorable & I was struck with it's simplicity... very light weight, chuck it in your handbag for touch ups. I loved the metallic purple compact, it's very girly & the label is very eye catching.

Upon opening the compact I was very curious as I have never used a cushion foundation before, it comes with a soft powder puff like applicator with a ribbon finger holder then you flip the applicator holder over and you come across an air tight seal which you remove to access the cushion, which is a sponge that is soaked in foundation. So obviously you use the puff in a dabbing motion against the cushion & the foundation is transferred to the puff and then you apply this to your face.

Now on my first application of the product, I patiently dabbed, dabbed, dabbed away... thinking to myself this applicator is so fiddly, time consuming & unhygienic (Can you even wash this thing?)... honestly I was getting hardly any product on this wee guy so I ditched it for my trusty beauty blender. The blender worked a heap better & quicker application but still wasn't getting a lot of product, I did notice the shade Vanilla 02 was perfect for me and the coverage was a lot more sheer & dewy than I was used to but I went with it, rocking a more natural glowy look.

So overall I was impressed with the formula, it was really easy to blend (with a beauty blender), left a natural finish which I found lasted all day but I did notice some oilyness on & around my nose area (the next day I focused on using extra powder to set it in this area which I found helpful). I loved that this foundation was build able, so you could layer it up to achieve more coverage. In no way did it become cakey or heavy upon doing this. I question the amount of foundation that it comes with, at one point I did remove the cushion from the compact & squeezed it to investigate how much foundation was remaining in the pot... Very little!

I don't think I would repurchase this product as I feel it doesn't come with enough foundation and I wouldn't think one week later you shouldn't have used 50-70% of the product... where as a bottle of foundation would normally last 1-2 months. Also it says 14.6g on the packaging... so seems rather expensive to me. Correct me if I am wrong.. I'm not great at maths! :P

My New Favourite Foundation

I haven't used this type of foundation before. I usually use a BB cream for every day and foundation for evening/special occasions.

The size of the compact is perfect as it can easily be carried in your hand bag for a quick touch up when you're out and about. The foundation itself feels amazing when you apply it to your skin. It feels extremely light but you can easily see the coverage as you apply it. One of the reasons I usually wear a BB cream is because it is quick and easy to apply and looks quite natural. The L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation was extremely quick & easy to apply with the applicator puff and it can be as light or heavy as you want to apply it.

I think it has a much better coverage than a BB cream as it has a more even look and appears more finished, funnily enough like a foundation ;-).

I think this product will be very popular and I would definitely recommend trying it out.

Tips: No, it's so easy and straightforward to use - can't go wrong.

This is wonderful, versatile and lasting finish

The Korean cushion foundation craze had me hooked at hello! when I saw that L'Oreal and now more brands are gearing up with their own cushion foundations I was super keen to give it ago. So when I saw these released I jumped online straight away and grabbed the lightest shade keeping my fingers crossed that it would match my skin, which it has beautifully.

Shade: Porcelain

The packaging is adorable in a light pink plastic tub that has a high shiny metallic effect pink lid that snaps firmly shut, opened up to reveal the insert of a mirror on the other side of the lid, and the 2nd pull up lid that hides the cushion to make double sure that it refrains from drying out, on top of the 2nd lid sits a small but effective sponge puff applicator that allows for 3 of my fingers to snugly fit under the purple toned ribbon that is attached to help stable application.

Formula wise the sponge once pressed lightly with the applicator quickly lets up enough foundation to leave a shiny coat on the underside of application, that then stays wet long enough to bounce across your face without dragging. The bouncing action adds the foundation in a layer that is sheet but flawless as it acts like airbrushing. Want more depth to your foundation then go around for layer 2 or even 3, the formula is such that it doesn't get caked up which is an awesome feature for versatility. I have been able to wear this foundation non stop for the past 3 weeks now and that has been light for daytime wear and heavy for evenings when I have gone out with the hubby, that is asking a lot of a foundation that is under $40!!!

There is no transfer from face to clothes, no break down from oils on my face, well after several hours there is if I haven't used a primer underneath but with it nothing got through for the length of wear. Colour wise it was spot on for me not to pink or orange but not yellow either.

No sign at this stage of my sponge becoming dry so estimate another 2-3 weeks at least of use left, if not more. I will be repurchasing this once the sponge does get dry and I have used it all up, as I find myself reaching for this everyday even over my holy grail UD Naked skin which is my favourite ever. Who would of thought a "drugstore" brand would come up trumps with this foundation which does from the outside appear very gimmicky.

LÓreal Paris Nude Magique Foundation

Let me start by saying the packaging is sleek and compact. Easily fits in my makeup bag, a huge plus! I wore the product for a week before reading the claims of what it was supposed to do. My initial notes: Light coverage, sheer finish, lovely sheen, evens out skin tone. Those initial thoughts have not changed I'm pleased to say. The coverage is light, giving a "no makeup" makeup look, perhaps a little lighter than I'm used but the product is buildable. There is a glow to the foundation which reflects and gives a healthy look to the skin. Although sheer, it even's out my skin tone which was a surprise and gives a natural flawless finish. The colour I chose is slightly too pink for me, but is workable, again because the foundation is sheer and easy to work with. In terms of staying power, touch ups are required as it wore away around my nose and mouth area, but that's manageable. My only complaint is the sponge. It absorbed all the product and transferred none. An alternative method for application is definitely required. I used a brush in the end which worked really well. Overall impression, it does what it claims to do. I would definitely repurchase for those days when I just want that "done with no effort" look. Thank you Beauty Review.

Tips: Definitely use an alternative to the sponge to apply.

That GLOW!

This foundation has been raved about on Instagram and I was over the moon to have secured a spot on the Beauty review trial. I was a bit worried about choosing my shade online as there wasn't much of a selection in the colour range but I am so surprised it was the right shade for me! I am a medium shade with a yellow undertone and I had chosen shade 9 which is the 2nd to last shade.

The packaging is very cute! Its an average size compact but I notice that the top part can get messy because its a shiny surface, I make sure I wipe it down after each use just to keep the compact looking new and smudgefree.

It comes with 2 layers inside the compact, one for the sponge and the second layer is the foundation. I found that even though the sponge is cute, I couldn't use it, when I would apply the foundation it would leave little patches so I prefer applying this with my beauty blender.

The foundation is very interesting, I have never seen a foundation like this as its liquid absorbed into a sponge. If you lightly dab it you get a light coverage, if you press harder you get quite a lot of foundation but for me I find it easier to use a little bit at a time and build it up slowly. It feels very light on my skin and most times I forget Im wearing foundation.

This has been great as it doesn't take much time or effort to apply, but I need to set this as it doesn't stay by itself. I have a lot of redness on and around my nose and this covers 80-90% which I am so happy with. I really like how it makes my skin look, it gives a beautiful glow to me skin. It almost looks natural!

I really like this foundation but it cant be worn for long periods of time, If I apply this in the morning, it will wear off by the afternoon. So I wear this when I run errands, no more than 4-5 hours.

Overall I am happy with this product, I found it a lot safer to travel with since it was a compact and not a liquid foundation and its not heavy on my skin. I would purchase this. Thank you Beauty review for letting me trial this foundation.

Tips: I use the Beauty blender to apply the foundation and I set it lightly with loose powder.

Sadly not worth the hype

This was absolutely nothing like I expected. I remember reading that the applicator sponge was the "cushion" so I was expecting a kind of a solid cream foundation to bounce it into. WRONG... The cushion IMHO is really the sponge that sits in the compact (a gorgeous shiny pink click open/closed compact I must add) filled with the LIQUID foundation. And I mean liquid like water. The sponge does a great job of soaking it up though so I haven't experienced any product leakage. So I got the wee applicator 'cushion' and bounced it into the sponge (and instantly thought, I will have to wash this after every use just like my beauty blender or hello bacteria!) and dabbed the foundation on. It's sooo thin and watery that I found the coverage to be very sheer. Great if you want to just even out your skin a little but to me it was on par with a BB cream. I thought surely I would be able to layer it up for the areas that need more coverage but sadly I really struggled to get any coverage at all. It's a really dewy finish too, which is great for some people but really not ideal with my oily skin. I found the included applicator a little bit fiddley to really get into all the areas it needs to go (under eyes, sides of nose) too. Determined not to give up, the next day I tried this without the included 'cushion'. I patted my foundation brush into the sponge and applied it to my face then blended out with my beauty blender. I did feel like I had a little more control this way but still found that it was difficult to get much coverage. Overall it was just a bit of a fail to me. LOVE the concept, maybe if the formula that's drenching the sponge was more like my regular liquid foundation it would be a hit. Love the idea of being able to touch up my foundation when I'm out and about without the risk of liquid foundation leaking in my bag, just not loving this formula. Probably best left to those who want the coverage of a BB cream.

Tips: If you do like using the applicator sponge PLEASE wash it regularly or it'll become a breeding ground for bacteria.

Limited shade range

I really like this foundation but unfortunately I won't be repurchasing. The 14.6 ml product is only available in 6 shades which don't cater to my skin tone or much of the chocolate club. I have the "darkest" shade #11 Golden Amber and it's still too light. For reference I'm in MAC NC42-44 and I believe #11 is more suited to NC40 or lighter.

But don't think I let the BR trial go to waste! I found that I could wear the pink toned foundation with careful placement of bronzer during the day and just on its own at night. It's lightweight with SPF 29 and has sheer to medium coverage which makes this an ideal foundation for me.

I love the pinky lilac packaging, it's such a refreshing change to black compacts and glass bottles. Under the lid there's a decent size mirror, a small puff and another secure plastic lid which separates the saturated cushion from the main lid and stops the cushion from drying out.

The only issue I have with the packaging is the shade number is not on the compact! I don't understand this oversight. The shade number is found on the security seal which you rip off - was it too hard to add this somewhere on the compact itself?

I prefer to apply the product using a brush and reserve the puff for touch ups. The product says to glide the puff for coverage and tap to add a dewy glow. Personally I'm not convinced that this cheap feeling puff is any good. By gliding or swiping you're only just wasting product by saturating the puff. Also dabbing the puff doesn't make a difference in the glow department - are we activating glow properties here or just saturating our puff even more?

In comparison to a brush I feel that the puff "cakes" on the product and it takes longer to apply because you're using a dabbing motion that covers very little area. I didn't bother using a beauty blender because with the little product we get I didn't want it to drink it up.

I love the natural finish I was left with and for oily skin I was pleasantly surprised that the foundation held out well with more than 7 hours wear before I noticed the product breaking up. There wasn't much glow, in fact I actually spritz my face (MAC Fix + or Tatcha) for the glow which doesn't bother me. I would repurchase this if they had my shade.
