Strong Nails

I got this nail strengthener in the 'We Love Nails' beauty box.

I got going trying it as soon as I could as I really like the idea of strong nails.

Does it work? well, straight away my nails looked and felt better. I only used it for a few days, which some might say isn't long enough to know. Well, the problem is, I would've loved to keep going, but the smell was making me feel ill, and in the end I had such a hideous migraine, that it had to go. Such a shame, but it can't be helped. I don't like using varnish or nail polish remover for the same reason (acetate/acetone?).

If these smelly substances don't bother you, then by all means try this product, as from what I could see, it does work.

Dissatisfied

I have really weak nails, especially after getting acrylics (anyone who has had them will definitely understand). I wanted a semi-natural way to strengthen my nails without a huge amount of effort.

I used revitanail for a week as instructions recommended on the back of the product. You are supposed to apply two coats firstly, then one coat every day after that and after a week you are meant to remove and complete the routine again - I wasnt very impressed without sounding bitchy.

The texture of the product is very similar to clear nail polish, perhaps a little thicker. sets, dries and looks just like clear nail polish would. I mean it definitely strengthens my nails but now thinking about it I think clear nail polish would have done the exact same thing.

If I hadnt got it for free from the awesome beautyreview crew, I dont think I would personally purchase it but since I did, I will use it to the end of its use :) but like I said, very similar to clear nail polish (which can be purchased for as little as $2 gals)

Works but........

Pre pregnancy my nails were beautiful. Two pregnancies back-to-back coupled with HG and my nails were ruined. They peel, they flake, they break.

Revitanail Nail Strengthener held great promise. And, really, it worked. My nails were stronger, longer, less flakey and didn't break.

BUT it has formaldehyde in it. Formaldehyde is a chemical that you have to take great care in handling it (gloves, goggles and a lab coat have to be worn) so it concerns me to deliberately apply it to my body. The concentration in Revitanail would be low, but there's no concentration on the packaging. Couple that with the fact that Revitanail is designed to be used daily for 25 days straight, you are exposing yourself to formaldehyde quite often.

Different people react to formaldehyde in different ways. While my eyes didn't sting, the smell of the polish was strong and my concern is that formaldehyde at high concentrations it is know to be a carcinogen (cancer causing).

As an aside, I also found the polish flaked and chipped quite easily once more than one coat was applied.

So all in all, while it was effective, I cannot recommend this product due to the formaldehyde.

Tips: Contains formaldehyde. If you must use it, do it in an extremely well-ventilated area.

Revitanail Nail Strengthener

I wear nail polish every day, hardly ever giving my nails a rest. Going into the trial, my nails were flaking, peeling, and brittle. I really wanted this product to be outstanding, to make it worth me forgoing my polish for 4-ish weeks. Results looked promising, but unfortunately the trial didn’t live up to my expectations - I thought that the Strengthener has improved my nail condition, however now I’m not sure.

I followed the instructions as religiously as I could. I love that the Strengthener dried pretty quickly, especially on the days I only had to apply one coat. Plus since it was clear, even if it did smudge, it was invisible to the naked eye. After a few days of layering, it did start to peel and chip around the edges, flaking a little bit as well. However again, this wouldn’t have been obvious unless someone was staring intently at my nails. The Strengthener gave a slight gloss which was nice, but it was slightly tricky to remove since (obviously) it is clear, so it’s hard to see what you’ve removed and what’s remaining on the nail - it did only take one cotton ball though. No where on the instructions did it say I could use it under nail polish - I assume I couldn’t since I had to add a new layer each day, but I think a product where I can use it under nail polish would suit me better in future.

The Strengthener seemed to be doing the job. Unfortunately, after submitting my review of the pack (the Strengthener + the Nail Oil), I noticed a break on one of my nails, when I was on about day 4 of week 3. A little bit disappointing as up until this point my nails weren’t peeling at all. After taking off the Strengthener today, it looks like a few of my nails are starting to peel slightly, and to be honest they look very dehydrated and strangely textured. One of my nails was peeling slightly going into the trial, and in the end I had to chop the nail as it just got progressively worse despite the strengthener being applied on it. I guess this is forgivable as the damage was already there, but I also found on two of my nails, I’ve got some weird ridges going on? It’s hard to tell at this point, and I do have a ridge filler for when I’m wearing polish - I just hope it hasn’t made my nails more ‘ridgey’ in exchange for the new found strength.

I thought that the Strengthener has improved my nail condition, however now I’m not sure. I think my nails are stronger, but not enough so to justify the high price point. I might undertake the process again in a few months, but I wouldn’t repurchase or recommend buying it.

Tips: Note down the day you apply the first two coats!

Revitanail Nail Strengther

30ml Bottle, nail varnish smell is quite strong, it is a very time consuming process over a month, put two coats on at first then another coat every day for five days, then on the 7th day remove varnish then start again for another 3 times, for the first two times, my nails were getting stronger, then on the third and fourth one, they started to chip and break, so no it didn't do what it was meant to do, so i would not purchase it, as i think it was too strong for my nails.

Not my jam!

Revitanail Nail Strengthener is a clear varnish used to strengthen and improve the condition of your nails. It comes in a very large bottle, 30ml the size of a standard foundation, which is a major plus. It has a strong scent which dissipates when dry, drying time is quick, a lot faster than a regular nail polish. Unfortunately the process is long, it's not a quick fix, in total the process takes 3 weeks of a coat everyday, and then ongoing maintenance every other week. This process proved way to excessive for me hence my title, Not my jam. It also meant no nice nail colour in that time. I have relatively normal nails, I keep them short and I honestly didn't notice enough of a difference for me to recommend the product. I would say however if you have trouble with your nails it's worth a shot especially if they have been damaged from gels or acrylics or you want them long.

Tips: Be committed to stick to the process.

Starting off well but...

Someone once told me that nails should be "jewels not tools". Sadly, mine get treated as tools and it shows. They've not been great since having acrylics years ago. They're very bendy, ridged, break easily and my cuticles look dry and ragged. So I quickly put my sad and sorry hands up for this trial.

I liked the ease of use of this product. You apply two coats of what looks and smells like a thin, almost clear nail polish. It dries really quickly - the first coat is already dried by the time you get to the second coat. It instantly makes your nails look better by giving them a nice shine. You then apply another coat each day for a week, then remove all the hardener then start again. I did find after a few days my nails started to look grubby from all the coats as the hardener is not completely clear.

The results during the first two weeks of using this were great as I didn't have any breakages at all! Sadly my nails began to snag and break in the following two weeks. By the end of the four week trial, my nails looked worse than before I started. The three nails that didn't break during this trial did feel stronger when the hardener was on. Once it was removed they felt bendy again, so I think it was the layers that was strengthening them rather than the nails actually being harder.

On the plus side, I used hardly any product during the 4 weeks so a bottle could easily last a year. I seems to work well for other reviewers so I will give it another go after the suggested two week break from application. Hopefully I'll have better results with prolonged use.

It did not work

I was excited to try this product. But it made my nails even more brittle. I was excited as I had long nails for me for a change. But the next day they were gone

Tips: Did not work
