The Official Nail Color of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York
Long lasting nail polish

No chip color nail laquer straight from the shows. Easy-flow brush. Formaldehyde, DBP and Toluene free.

First apply a clear base coat to prevent your nails from yellowing and to help your nail color last longer. With one sweep, paint the first line of nail polish up the center of your nail starting from the base to the tip. For the cleanest look, be sure to leave a small space at the base of the nail. Then apply nail color to the rest of the nail.

Colourful

I have this nail polish in two shades: a grey and a black with gold glitter. I do really like the colour range of this nail polish as there are many options for a great price.

The two colours I have a fairly pigmented; I usually do about two coats and that seems to be fine. Like any brand, I would say the pigmentation and quality depend on the colours that you buy, so for my two I am happy. They come in a nice size bottle that is different from other brands (so easy to spot in your nail polish collection). The brush is ok - I have definitely used better but I have also used worse.

I do not believe that it is chip-free. It does chip after a little while, especially if you do not use a top and base coat. I have not had issues with it staining my nails as I do use a base coat and my colours are quite neutral.

Overall, it is an ok nail polish. I am happy with the colours that I have but I can't say I would rush out to buy more. I do like the colour range but I do not like that it does not live up to its "chip-free" claim. Worth a shot for the price though!

Tips: Base and top coat are necessary!

maybelline colour show nail lacquer

I have only one of these nail polishes in Chiffon Chic. I received this for my birthday from one of my best mates. I have only used this polish once and I absolutely hated it. The formula was quite thick and I found that it didn't apply on my nails evenly. I found that it also chipped away very easily and didn't last that long. For me I wouldn't purchase these nail polishes due to what the formula was like on this one plus I have far to many.

Great nude

I have this in one of the colours from the nude/stripped collection and it's amazing.

It is a perfect nude, and it lasted for over a week before chipping. It's what I had hoped OPI Samoan Sand to be - but at half the price. Two coats and it was opaque, which is just what I was after and I was so surprised as it's a nude. I'll try more colours but I am surprised everyone says they chip as mine lasted so well.

Show the color

I recently bought a Maybelline color show nail lacquer in onxy rush color from Countdown for $6 during the sale. This is a very reasonable price and you can buy it in full price as well which is just under $10. The consistency of the the nail polish is very thin, I have to apply at least 2-3 coats to get the right color. The color lasts long only if you apply a topcoat else it easily chips off after 2 days. The nail polish doesn't dry on its own quickly, I have to apply rapid dry topcoat. Overall I really like the number of color choices Maybelline has and it's a good buy too for it's price.

Tips: Apply top coat for a long lasting nails.

Meeehhhh

I bought a metallic blue when it was on sale and I'm not impressed. The polish looked way better on swatches in store than on my nails. Not sure if my nails just don't work with this or if it really needs three coats. And the real depressing thing is after I took it off my nails were stained blue despite the base coat. I'd worn. I'd loved all my other Maybelline polishes especially the express dry ones but this one was just a major disappointment.

Tips: Have at least two coats of clear underneath unless you want your nails to be stained.

Really Dissapointed

My sister included two of these in a lovely pack she made for me. One was a gorgeous purple - Fuschia Fever, and a shredded one (which is their name for crackle)

I didn't try them straight away as I was already wearing a nail polish. When I went to put it on, it had separated. This happens, so I shook it up and put it on.

It took 3 coats to get a nice finish, it took quite a long time to dry - so all up with base and top coat it was 5 coats of polish. It definitely wasn't chip free, I think because it needed so many coats it was going to be prone to chipping from the start. It chipped in a few hours and after I had a shower I had chips on every nail.

I have since noticed that the bottle has separated again - but it looks like water, it doesn't look like there is much of the original colour left, it's a funny pink.

I love my other Maybellines, but really disappointed with this one. Would rather pay a little more for their other formula.

Tips: It stained my nails through the base coat. Maybe two coats? But I wouldn't bother with it at all!

Great for price

I purchased a variety of colors through my local Countdown in order to build up a better quality polish collection. I was really happy with the quality for the price!

Pro's: Affordable, easily found in supermarkets, often on sale, loads of options, lasts!

Con: Not amazing coverage. Needs at least two coats!

Tips: Make sure to let each coat dry completely for best coverage! Lighter colors need more coats

Ice Queen

I bought this polish for $15 at the pharmacy - expecting it to be really good quality, value etc. But it wasn’t. My number one complaint is that it is too thin. And that’s really problematic.

The bottle is relatively smaller than any other polish I’ve ever purchased. Comparing them with other polishes, this one comes in 7ml whereas I normally get 13mls

the bottle is short and chubby, making the handle a little difficult to hold and manoeuvre. I do like the bottle however, nice and simple, except for the giant “Colour show” sticker on the front which makes it ugly, and is impossible to remove.

Now as for the polish, I got the shade “Ice Queen” which is a lovely dark lavender colour. The polish is really thin. Really really thin, so that it drips almost every where. You have to be very quick to put it on your nails.

Because it is so thin, I have to keep wiping off the excess of the brush to stop it dripping, but then I find there isn’t enough polish to cover the nail. You do need to experiment with it a little to see what works and what doesn’t.

It’s also really streaky. On the first coat it’s understandable as its a light colour, but then on the second coat I noticed that while putting it on - even though my first coat had completely dried, it not only streaked again, but it ruined and faded the first coat I’d put on, so I had white, un-polished patches here and there.

I did about 3 coats of this, and noticed it still wasn’t as opaque as i wanted it to be. I also have little cracks in the tips of my nails as they are long, and it failed to cover the cracks, where it does with any other polish.

It lasts about 3-4 days without any chipping, but I found that I got a tiny bit of fade at the tips within two days - really good considering it usually takes me one day to chip it - and I took 2 showers within the hour I painted my nails haha. It is however really easy to wash off the skin if you do paint around your nail. The drying time is also really significant. I say it can take up to half an hour, and it still feels heavy like it hasn’t dried.

The colours in the collection aren’t exactly original either, you can find any of these colours in any other polish brand.

Maybelline Colour Show Nail Lacquer Review

got this from some one at a nail polish swap party because the deep purple shade appealed to me the bottle is small and cute but some would say that does not give you bang for your buck. As far as the chip free claim I think this is an average to good varnish but not great. Using a base and top coat would be helpful the formulation is quite thin so of course you need a few layers but generally you are supposed to do two coats of paint anyway. This products gets point for being free of some of the bad chemicals.
