Unfortunately, this product won't get a very good review from me on it's own. As a base for other eyeshadows, I think it serves it's purpose for it's price, however, a quality, smokey eye look is not possible with the product itself. I have both the black and purple pencils. The product glides on nicely, and has very nice and pigmented colour, but as soon as you try to smoke out the product with the smudging tool at the end, it creates a very textured looking effect which is not smokey at all. The smudger takes off most of the product as well, so you have to apply the product multiple times to get the level of drama you want from a smokey eye. Overall, I do not like this product on it's own, only as a base for other shadows.

I was really looking forward to having a long wearing smoky eye. The colour was nice but I found the blender didn't blend the thick line as I was hoping it would and unfortunately it wasn't long wearing for me.
I bought this in combination with the Colossal Smoky Eye Mascara to see what kind of look I could create. It was average.
I found holding the pen on the side and not directly putting the tip on my eye lid made me able to create a thick line that theoretically I would then be able to smudge with the attached smudger.
It didn't do the best job, I did manage some form of smokiness, but definitely not like what the picture looks like on the package.
I have the colour black smoke. I also own smoldering violet and that one didn't do the best job either....oh well, like I said, I had to try it!
The pigmentation is great but the application of it is just something Im not used too being really large and blunt. It'd be great for people who are really into smokey eyes but for me I just use it as an eyeliner and smudge it out with a brush as I find the smudger a bit too harsh and tend to pick up too much product off of my face (if that makes sense) Also after my third use the lead fell out so it made it even harder to use.
I found this easy to apply, as it doesn't drag across my eyelid or scratch the sensitive skin and the line applies with a even colour in one stroke. But its also easy to smudge the colour out. This is where my problems start, as it is too easy to smoke out - the smudger works more like an eraser for me.also the smudger is a bit scratchy , really not the best out there
I understand this is a smokey shadow pencil, its okay for smokey eye bases, maybe a little too dark for that purpose. The point is too fat for liner or a precise placing of base and smudges way too easily which makes it prone to creasing. The smudger at the end is no help at all. Sorry maybelline, i love you but this one is a miss
I picked this up on my way to work one morning as I realised I'd left the house with no eyeliner or mascara QUELLE HORREUR!!! I bought the purple shade as I've got quite a few black eyeliners & thought I should branch out. My first impressions are that it's not fantastic. I found the formula quite disappointing, it's not highly pigmented and when I tried to smoke it out, it was patchy. As I was in a hurry I wiped the majority off & reapplied the line close to the lashes. I didn't find that it was long lasting either - by the end of the day it was mostly gone. I'm wondering if it'd work with an eye primer & a bit of time & a brush to smoke it out, but to be honest I don't think I can be bothered. I'll update if I find myself at a loose end on a rainy Sunday.
I have the black one. And it Doesnt do anything like the adds. I find it smudges out way to much and just leaves this yuck colour on your lids. I havnt tried this but I might try it and give it another go but maybe wet the sponge smudger on the end a little and see if it works that way.
Tips: Good for just lining the eye but not smudging out.
At first I really did not like these - I bought the shade Emerald fury and it was patchy to apply, the smudger would remove the product as you tried to blend it and overall it was a good dark charcoal/greenish eyeshadow base for a smoky eye - however I recently recieved another one of these recently in the same shade and it's a totally different creature - it's still not something you can just draw on and smudge in, but this one is less patchy, creamy to apply and is a fab shadow base - staying put and in place setting like one of the tattoo shadows. I might have got a bad batch at first, or perhaps they have altered the formula but I actually quite like these. I have since bought the black one which is not so pigmented but a great blendable creamy black for doing a smudgy eye, another emerald one as a backup and the violet shade which is a deep reddened purply plum - both look amazing when used as a base for a smoky eye for a pop of subtle colour. Overall don't expect them to create that dramatic look you see on the packet but they make great bases/lovely stay put eye pencils.
The smudger takes off most of the product argh! and so very hard to actually get it to fade/smoke out. Was really looking foward to it ( I have it in black) but was hard to use and felt as though it wasted alot of product trying to smudge and get the desired look. On me it just looked like a panda eye. I paid around $15 online for it, was a waste of money in my books, very sad The product design looks good though
