LA Girl Matte Pigment Gloss - Review

I picked up one of these in the shade dreamy whilst away on holiday, and I'm pleasantly surprised! These are a great product for the price, and come in a variety of colours for anyone and everyone.

These come in a basic tube, the design is quite nice and simple. The applicator is a long flat doe foot, and you can get quite crisp lines with it although I still have to clean up the edges.

The consistency of this product is kind of in the middle, it's not thick and moussey but not very thin either, and a little goes a long way. This takes a couple of minutes to dry down, and dries to a matte finish however there is quite a bit of a tack when you press your lips together. I fixed this by applying a TINY (I stress tiny) amount of translucent powder over my lips.

These wear for quite a long time on me but do wear off a lot faster when I eat oily or greasy foods, however you can just touch it up so there's no problem there.

I will probably buy more of these, I've had my eye on a few other colours from this line so might have to give more a try next time I see them in store.

decent

I have a few of these lipsticks, and while i absolutely love all of the shades i do find that a couple do apply streaky and almost dry and flake off, which is disappointing as i love the rest of the colours but its only a few that do this. other than that they're great to wear and only move really if you eat greasy food.

Fleur - Terracotta beige nude

I have the shade Fleur, a rich terracotta beige nude which I think is wearable on most skin tones. I bought this product from Makeup NZ for $12.00.

It comes in chunky packaging where you're left to believe there's a lot of product but you only get 5 grams. It has a whipped mousse-like consistency that goes smoothly on the lips and is opaque with one swatch. The longevity of the product is great, it can last me a good 5 hours if I don't eat or drink (but I'm not that crazy!).

The product definitely lives up to everything it claims unfortunately there are some minor issues I have with it. The product stays wet longer than most matte liquid lipsticks I've tried; it probably takes 2-3 minutes if not longer. Once dry, you'll notice that the shade is much darker than when it's wet so don't be put off with the shade you see in the tube.

I don't like how the product feels when it's dry. It almost feels stiff so I tend to put a light touch of lip balm to make it feel more comfortable without ruining the matte effect (my preference). Lastly if you apply too much the product will become thick and begin to peel off which believe me looks quite unsightly! With other liquid lipsticks I can get away with putting 3 coats and it'll still be ok.

These minor issues wouldn't stop me from repurchasing because the price point is good and the shades they have in this range are amazing - I have my eye on two other shades!

Tips: If you find Fleur too light, lightly go over your lips with a brick red lip pencil. If you find it too dark, mix it with a lighter nude lipstick (before it dries).

Good product

To be honest this product scares me! Key is precision! It’s a bit like the Eminem song lose it you only get one shot to get it right! Any mess ups and your defining lip line goes straight to the toilet. It’s formula is sticky and you have to remain opened mouthed (while drying) for an awkwardly long time however it has staying power!

Tips: Have a surgically steady hand

lasts forever

this product once on the lips will stay on for a very long time, an is extremely hard to get off. it has a good colour range at an affordable price whic is good, but if yo are going to put it on, yo must commit to it as it is very difficult to get off, also it is quite drying on the lips.

Affordable Liquid Lipsticks

I have both Dreamy and Fleur matte pigment gloss and let me first say that the word gloss is misleading as it is simply a liquid lipstick - nothing about it is glossy!

They come in a thick, sturdy tube package with a flat doe foot applicator, which is great for a cheaper product. Dreamy is a beautiful pinky nude and Fleur is a deep terracotta shade. They do apply darker on the lips than they appear in the tube so be sure to check swatches online.

I would suggest to use a lip liner as they can be tricky to apply with the flat applicator (takes getting used to). The liquid lipstick takes a while to dry down and once it is dry, they remains tacky throughout the day. They do feel very drying on the lips but the lip liner does definitely helps with that. Once I have eaten or drank, they wear off on my inner lip and leave a crusty worn area. They do need to be reapplied to that area and definitely don't look perfect afterwards. At the end of the day, the product is quite hard to take off my lips so their long-lasting claims are true (apart from the inner lip problem already mentioned). Due to their long-wearing nature, they would be perfect to wear out to a party or somewhere for a few hours where there is not too much eating involved.

Overall, I do like it as an affordable liquid lipstick but you get what you pay for. If you don't mind having dry but tacky lips or re-applying throughout the day then it's a good cheap option. I love the colours that I own and will probably re-purchase because of that - I just wear them for a few hours at a party or down the street.

[DUPE? Dreamy is similar to the Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Serenity but slightly lighter. It is a good colour alternative but the formula of the Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick is much better if you can afford to pay the price.]

Tips: 1. Use a lipbalm beforehand and use a lip liner as a base all over the lips 2. Take them in your handbag for re-application after eating

L A Girl Matte Pigment Gloss

This comes in a thick clear plastic tube with a black lid. You can see how much you have left in the tube so that is helpful.

The applicator has a sponge tip which holds a good amount of the product and is quite easy to use.

I thought the matte gloss is very pigmented, the colours are very rich looking. I found it was easy to apply, the colour changed slightly on my lips, but still close to the colour in the tube.

The issue I have with this product is as it wore off during the day I got left with lips that looked like I was only wearing a lip liner. It wore away from my inner lips, it looked awful!

I am happy I gave something like this a try, but I will stick with what I know and love.

Awesome colours

I managed to get my hands on a few of these and the first thing that grabbed any attention was the awesome colour range - they are bold and fun! The product is in a standard drugstore packaging just a simple plastic tube that you can see the colour of the product through.

The product itself is quite thin it takes about two coats to get a nice full bold colour - once applied it takes a while to dry but once it has dried it seems to stay quite well. Its lasting power isn't as great as some other matte liquid lipsticks but for the price point it is a great product to have a play with and as I said the colour range is awesome.

After a while I find it starts to feel really dry on the lips and it can start to flake off, so definitely not good for all day wear but good for a night out.

Tips: exfoliate your lips before applying for a good base

Not a fan at all

I picked one of the LA girl matte pigment glosses up because I had heard reasonably good things about it and I love me a good matte liquid gloss. Positive points for this product are: It comes in pretty nice packaging which is reasonable quality for the price, it has a good colour range, the colours are pigmented. Negative points are: it's sticky when you apply it and it's not comfortable and then when it dries it is crumbly on the lips from my experience. Overall, I'm not overly impressed and the feel of the lip gloss made it an uncomfortable experience.

Tips: Moisturize your lips before applying this lip gloss

developed an awful smell

I actually loved this when I first got it, but only about a year later, it's developed a nasty smell and I won't put it on my lips again because of this.

The GOOD..... quite thin, goes on easily, a double layer stays for hours, and the colour (I have 'backstage' is divine. Relatively kissproof and drink/food proof, and very cheap.

The BAD.... takes a while to set, and obviously with it developing the scent i'm concerned about what's in there.

I won't buy this again - a pity because it's a gorgeous red. It's put me off the brand as well.

Tips: two thin layers with translucent powder between is the best for longevity. Apply, let dry, dust with powder and reapply.
