Nice!

The colours available are well matched to each other and a great range of light and dark. The shadows go on very easily and last all day. I work in a hot sweaty environment and my eyeshadow is still as perfect as when I put it on. I love that there is enough sparkles for a special look and matt for a more natural look. I didn’t really like the provided applicator but was happy to use my own.

Aesthetically pleasing, but needs more pigment

Burgundy themes are one of my fave colour schemes for eye makeup so I was extremely giddy when I found out this would be included!

First off, the brush - I haven’t used these kinds of brushes in years, and I know it’s the standard one that most, if not all, drugstore brands include in their eyeshadow palettes. I don’t know if it’s a compulsory rule that says they need to have it, but I think we can all collectively agree it should be left out; even in a rush I think our fingers can suffice and/or do a better job. When I first tried doing an eye makeup look I used the allocated brush, but found it really does not do a satisfactory job in application (harsh blended lines) so I had to abandon that immediately. It’s definitely not a dealbreaker though as we’re all here for the colours anyway.

The colours themselves range from champagne to gold to plum to burgundy (of course!) and on an aesthetic level are so pretty to look at. When I swatched them all on my arm, the shimmers completely stood out, but the 2 matte browns were a little muted.

On application I love how there’s barely any fallout. I think one of the most annoying things about using certain eyeshadow palettes is when all the pigment seems to be falling down to your cheeks rather than staying on your actual lids, so I'm pretty pleased about that.

Overall I think it’s a pretty solid palette with some beautiful shimmers and 2 classic matte brown shadows for basic transition colours. However in terms of purchasing it myself, I would sadly pass just because the colour payoff isn't as pigmented as I expected it to be for the price.

Tips: Always prep your lids with an eyeshadow primer so your colours will last longer!

Great shades, terrible packaging.

Having previously used the Maybelline nudes palette I was keen to trial this out. Sadly there have been no improvements in packaging which let's this product down. It's plastic, flimsy and cheap looking. The best thing about the packaging is the see thru window which showcases the beautiful shades, of which there are twelve in total. Two are matte and the rest are shimmery. It has a good range of shades but are of the warmer variety so I think I would be more inclined to reach for this palette in Autumn/Winter.

There are some easy to understand instructions on the back which I didn't follow because I like to do my own thing but would be great for make up novices. It comes with the traditional sponge end brush and another end which is completely useless. It's fairly average, nothing compares to urban decay naked palette brushes but it is usable if you don't have another brush.

For me the real winner is how beautiful and buttery the shades are, they are very blendable and compliment each other nicely. There was minimal product fallout but I believe the key to this was wiping off excess product and using a descent eyelid primer beforehand.

Great palette, let down slightly by the packaging but for the price I could look past this.

Tips: Look past the packaging for a great palette.

Burgundy Beautiful

This eyeshadow palette definitely kicked me out of my comfort zone when it comes to colours on my eyes. I tend to stick to neutral browns and creams, especially with wearing glasses I don't want anything too bright in behind my lenses! The palette has 10 shimmery shades and 2 mattes, I googled some burgundy tutorials to give me some different ideas/ways to wear these colours and experimented with quite a few. I took an instant dislike to the 'average' applicator they include with the palette, I thought the makeup world had moved away from the sponge tip applicators in this day and age? So I used my own brushes instead and am pleased I did. The eyeshadow glides on so smoothly and blends really well, I've had shimmery eyeshadows in the past that after the first initial use have lost their shimmer and it turns into a matte shadow underneath. These shimmers have not done that despite the amount of use they have had so far, they're still shimmery and still applying easily. The pigments are true to the colours in the palette and are extremely easy and smooth to apply In experimenting with the different colours I've branched out and have actually liked wearing colours other than browns. The eyeshadows are very long wearing and are still shimmery at the end of the day, not rubbing off or disappearing. The only colour in the palette that I'm scared of and won't wear is the one second from left on the bottom row. It looks quite dark in the palette but turned out a horrendous shade of a really bright dark pink on my eyes.... no thanks! Overall I'm very pleased with how this palette tested, and am going to be wearing more burgundy in the future.

Tips: Use your own brushes instead of their sponge applicator.

Lovely colours

The first thing I’ll say about this palette is that it’s so so so pretty! The colours are so nice and actually quite pigmented. So wearable for everyday but then also there are pop of colours that you can use for a night out or event. The shimmery shades are gorgeous but there is a little bit of fallout. Most of the colours are super blendable and don’t go on patchy. Overall I would definitely recommend, the palette is quite small so you can use it as a travel one and it wouldn’t take up much room

The Burgundy Bar eyeshadow palette

I have mixed feelings about this palette. There is some good and some bad. I'll start with the bad, though it's not really that bad but it's the main reason why I wouldn't buy this for myself. There are too many similar shades! You could have this same palette with 4-6 pans and still have a great palette. I hate having palettes that aren't used much! And because the shades are all so related, even if you followed the instructions for a multi-shadow look , by the time you get half way through the day, any variation of this palette will look very similar to another. I was disappointed with the purple/copper pan 2nd from far right on the bottom. It looked like it would be a purple with copper reflect, similar to a popular Wet n Wild shade I loved once upon a time, but on my eye it looked like a copper. A very pretty copper, but not purple. The red one on far left is pretty true to how it looks. The others are basic golds and browns, all warm shades. One red shade isn't a reason to call it Burgundy Bar, maybe the author had drunk too much Burgundy when they named it haha!

Does anyone use the supplied brush anymore? I don't think they are necessary and the space could be better used to make a more compact palette or add a little mirror.

The good - it applies really well, a pleasure to use. I didn't notice any fallout to my cheekbones, though with my oily eyelids there was a slight fading around the crease. I always use MAC paint pot as a primer, and this stuck to it nicely, and let me blend it pretty well. The copper shades look lovely in person and as I have blue eyes, it looked really nice. On the back there are some tips about which shades were designed to be worn together, so you can use this if having a brain freeze when putting on your makeup.

Tips: A winner for people who like warm shades or who have blue eyes.

Beautiful!

LOVE the colours in this palette. Very pigmented, stays on the lids for a decent amount of time, also price! It's such a good price for what it is. Great for teens starting out, can find it in nearly every supermarket that stocks maybelline.

Tips: Prep your eye lids - primer etc then go hard!

Loving the Burgundy Bar

I love the colours in this pallet and found the colour combos on the back super helpful, it makes it nice and easy for the amature like myself to create the perfect eyeshadow look. I also liked how the little applicator had a brush at one end as well as the standard eyeshadow applicator.

Tips: For ease of blending I did find using a bigger eyeshadow brush more helpful.

Pretty palette

I keep it pretty simple with eye makeup generally, so was really excited to receive this Burgundy Bar palette to review.

All the shades are beautiful warm shades - all with a little shimmer. They apply nicely. Not too dark, and not to light, and daytime wear they tend to not wear off too much. They blend really nicely together. The brush - is a dual brush with the sponge on one end, and a brush on the other. Neither were particularly good for applying the eyeshadows for me - and I tended to use my own brushes. The included brushes is handy if it's a palette you're going to keep in the handbag though

On the back of the palette are suggestions for application, using 2, 3 or 4 of the colours. For me, with little experience in elaborate eyeshadow looks, these guides were really helpful. I tended to use the duo suggestions for the daytime, and the trio and quad suggestions for a night out etc. That said - I'm wearing a quad combo today, and with the Colossal mascara to finish the look I'm feeling really glam.

My only negative on this palette is that the eyeshadows themselves are very dry and there was some fall when applying the eyeshadows, but it was relatively minimal. Mostly noticeable when using the darker colours of course. Because the eye shadows are quite powdery, the neat-freak in me found the messiness that the palette gets to a little distracting. One eye-shadow was broken on delivery, so I wonder if it isn't a great travel palette if the powders are a little more fragile - but I may have just been unlucky there.

It's a great palette for those that love nude colours but want the option to glam their look up a little.

Tips: The guides on the back are fabulous if you're wanting to try a few different looks, but don't know where to start!

So pretty!

This palette is so pretty, I didn’t want to spoil it by using it! It has 12 shades that have duo, triple or quad tips on the back of the pack - and although some of them look a little quirky, actually compliment each other and look quite striking (the cream and red combo for example) and comes with an applicator brush / sponge. Slightly disappointing that there is only one sponge applicator though, I had to wash it a few times - but good from a hygiene perspective so not all bad. The shimmer effect does settle on your upper cheek a little by the end of the day, but the product doesn’t gather in the crease of your eyelid to form a line which is great.

Tips: Some of the gold tones are very similar, great if you like that colour as the palette will last longer
