Kiehl's Calendula Herbal Extract Toner Review

Packaging: The bottle is simple and inexpensive-looking. Very crowded label.

Product: The product itself has the consistency, colour and scent of iced tea, and actually has the calendula petals floating in it.

Use: I have always found toners difficult to remember to use in my routine. This one leaves a really fresh feeling to my skin, and left it calmer after a week or so of use. I don't mind the smell, it did just feel a little strange to be putting the smell of tea on my face to start with.

I only would be tenuous about using it again as it's a step I'm probably going to fall off the wagon with again soon!!

This is a very nice toner, although I did find it a tad drying on my skin, potentially because it is more for oily skin. But as a toner it did a nice job, I'm not a huge fan of the flowers in the bottle haha looks a bit nasty but I get the idea behind it.

A decent sized bottle so good value for money and has an easy to use top on it. Again love the apothecary feel on the whole kiehls range. Probably my least fave from the trial but still a very nice gentle, soothing toner.

This product does what it says it does. I just can't get past the smell. Especially since you are putting it on your face. Don't get me wrong, I love natural things, but the smell of this is too herbal for me. I tried it for two weeks before giving up. For the price, I do think that this product is a bit overrated. I just can't get over the floating pieces in the bottle.

I was genuinely excited to try this Kiehl's toner. I've never tried a toner formulated with whole flowers! (there's actually petals in the bottle!)

I already use a toner on a daily basis to prep my skin in the morning so to swap my usual out for this one was no drama. The scent is definitely 'herby', but only slightly noticeable and disappears within seconds. It's easy to use, just squirt a little on a cotton pad and swipe over your face.

My skin just wasn't wowed by it though. I began with using it morning and night, but soon found it was 'too' much on top of my nighttime routine(serums, moisturiser, eyecream etc) Adding in this type of toner into my evening routine was too much for my skin. Although it's advertised towards normal to oily skin (like mine) I think it would work just as well(or better) for those with dry skin. The packaging states that it would 'gently cleanse' my skin, I didn't feel like it did anything of the sort! It left a thin film over my skin that made me feel like I needed to wash my face. Not quite what I'd like in a 'cleansing toner'.

So, I imagine for drier skin types this could be a go-er though, especially with it's soothing properties.

I have never really got on the toner band wagon. I use a toner when I have worn heavy makeup and the cleanser hasn’t got all of it off especially my eye makeup. This particular toner specifies not to use around the eye area so that is a first bad mark. The bottle itself is okay but I feel the amount dispensed at a time is too small and takes a few times to get a decent amount on the wipe. Also the leaves floating around can get stuck in the hole. The toner itself was pleasant enough but I didn’t really feel or notice anything different. It didn’t help remove any residual make up. I’ve used better toners.

I feel like Kiehls had the best of intentions with this toner but I just cannot get behind the bits and pieces of murky brown flower petals suspended in the bottle. Its actually quite repulsive to me when I apply to a cotton pad and its chunky. I can feel the chunks on my face and I can't think of a single purpose or benefit they have.

The toner itself is very nice, its cleansing and tightening without drying out my skin which is lovely and rare for a toner. I am considering running the whole bottle through a sieve and returning it to the bottle so I can continue to use it freely.

The scent is quite strong and earthy but is not overpowering.

If they removed the petals I would consider repurchasing this product.

This is my first product to try from Kiehls, and i’ve heard such good things about their products so i was looking forward to this.

I apply the toner on a reusable cotton eye-pad and use it to wipe my face for extra cleansing from time to time not too often because toners often dry my skin out.

But i was really disappointed with this product, i felt it did nothing to my face it might be made for ultra sensitive skin maybe? But it was really useless on my skin and i have combination skin type.

I’d never buy this again, felt like a waste of money unfortunately. The toner looked cool it had pieces of extract in it, which comes out with the toner which you can also apply on your face. But nope this wasn’t for me.
