Nice Matte product

I have these in rich red, natural and tea rose. Natural is the perfect nude for me, tea rose is a rather strong lilac once it has dried on your lips and the rich red is very nice, just not quite my kind of red as I find it a bit too pinky based.

The packaging is classic e.l.f. cheap and cheerful but very easy to use. I like how the actual lip colour is on the base of the pencil so you can grab the right one at a glance. There's a handy sharpener enclosed on the bottom of the pencil too!

This pencil is ever so easy to apply, and you could also use these as liners if you've got a steady hand.

The colour range only consists of 6 on iHerb so I'll be getting the other 3. You'd be mad not to at the price.

Only sticking point is that they do not last all day but honestly, what does? I usually get about an hour before having to retouch and I think that's pretty average for most lipsticks. They don't make my lips feel overly dry, so I think they would be good for someone just starting out using a matte lip product as some other brands can be a bit too drying.

Good on you e.l.f.!

e.l.f Matte Lip Colour

I have 2 colours, Tea Rose and Coral. Tea Rose is a beautiful color, suttle purply pink colour, while Coral is a light peachey colour and does not suit my complexion. These are matte so are very drying. The pigmentation is quite opaque for the price. They are easy to use as they are in pencil form. You can easily precisely apply your lipstick without going over the edge. Not very long lasting but that's fine with me. Packaging is very simple and like that it has the colour on the end of the pencil packaging. Easy to twist to get more product. Would happily buy more colours from this range. Very affordable :)

Affordable non-matte lip colours

I received this as a free gift from a company for delaying my beauty parcel for 2 months. I was quite excited because matte is my favourite finish and I had hope that the shade Praline would be a great nude on my chocolate skin.

It comes in a black cut-out cardboard box where you have visibility of the product and the colour of the shade on the box which is great however this is not true to pan. It comes in a sleek black retractable pen with the top part showcasing the colour which is great in terms of identifying the shade you need amongst the rest. I find that this is more true to pan than the colour on the cardboard box.

The packaging is lightweight and cheap but I like the effort that has gone into the design because even though we all love great bargains we want packaging that doesn't LOOK cheap. Unfortunately I did crack the lid because I pushed the lid back on a bit too forcibly so be mindful of the pressure and try not be a beast like me.

On the box, the Praline shade is a reddish brown and I thought "ugh" this is really not a "me" colour. However I was so surprised at the gorgeous nude pink brown that graced my lips - who would have thought!! Now for those worried that it's matte - (unfortunately for me) this isn't a true matte and I wouldn't even describe it as semi-matte (double boo for me). It's actually quite smooth, creamy and depending on the shade it has sheen.

The longevity on the lips is good however that's probably because I have an application process in place haha. I love my mattes so I'm willing to go the extra mile besides for a price like that I couldn't resist but add another 7 shades. All mine were bought off of the ELF website during one of their many sales where I picked them up for $NZD3.00 each. My favourite shades have to be the reds/pinks: Cranberry, Rich Red and Fuchsia.

Tips: I wear a lipliner with all the nude ones; I don't bother wearing the nude shades if I haven't exfoliated my lips because they reveal everything.

In general I apply the product; go over it with a small lip brush to really push the product in, blot and repeat as required,

Beautiful!

I have this in Tea Rose and it's perfect for my skin tone. Easy to apply but can be a bit drying. Wish it came in a bigger size!

great cheapie

I bought this in a really gorgeous plummy/nude colour (tea rose). I love how it's quite a think windable stick. The smaller size (than a normal lipstick) makes it really easy to apply. Because it's a stick rather than a cream, it does have a much silkier consistency, so it's a lot less drying on than a standard matte, but that also means it does't last as long as many other mattes, but you can't complain about that for the price. The colour isn't heavy- I would call it a fairly sheer coverage, but I like it, love ther colour, and love how it feels.

Tips: don't go for this if you like opaque, very matte mattes.

Lipliner

I bought this product in the brightest red colour in hopes of having a nice red matte finish lip colour. After the first application I found this product was rather messy and though it was pigmented, the colour just wasn't what it looked like. It wasn't all bad though, as this product comes with it's own sharpener in the bottom which is very handy. I personally choose to use this product as a lip liner before applying another red lipstick over top, but this product would be great for a beginner or a good cheap alternative for more expensive matte lipsticks.

Tea Rose

I love the colour and texture of this lipstick. Reviews warned me that the formula would be drying but I found it to be just a typical matte formula.

The colour is gorgeous, its like a cool blue-toned rose shade and I love it so much. Very 90's and Kylie Jenner-esque.

The downside is that I find the package awful. I'm not sure if I just got a bad one but the actual lipstick seems so unstable in the tube, it rattles around and moves when applying, I'm nervous that the product is going to fall out. The look isn't bad, its still has that black satin sleekness that most e.l.f products have, I'm just put off by the cheapness. I suppose for a few dollars, I'm still impressed.

ELF Matte Lip Colour - Coral

I have purchased an ELF matte lip color in the shade Coral from iHerb and I think I pretty much got what I paid for!

Coral is a gorgeous pinky orangey nude shade, perfect for everyday office wear. I love that it last for a long time, it wore well for at least five hours for me and the lip color is very pigmented.

While I love the colors and the longevity, I find it very drying and not hydrating at all. I already have dry lips and I scrub my lips and apply lip balm before use, but the product still sink into lines and appear dried.

I like that it's got a twisted end instead of having to sharpen the lip color. It comes packaged in a tall skinny pencil style and it's thin enough to fit into any handbags / purse.

Overall I love the ELF matte lip color and I would re-purchase. I have heard so much great things about Tea Rose and I want to try that next.

Tips: This is a typical matte lip pencil, so it is going to dry out your lips and make it ugly. Scrub your lips and apply lip balms before use, apply lip balms on top of the ELF matte lip color when you feel that it's drying out your lips.

Exfoliate first!

I have the Matte Natural colour that I got in an ELF haul from iHerb!

Although the packaging is quite cheap looking, I love it. I like that it doesn't appear too delicate so I'm not worried about it bouncing around in my bag, and the long felt shape is user friendly!

I love the matte natural colour - it's the perfect "my lips but better" shade for me and I'm quite pale so I was definitely stoked when it arrived (online shopping can be risky for colours!!).

I found the staying power to be quite poor. It would clump on my lips after a while. Although exfoliating my lips minimised this, I still seemed to get a clumpy effect after an hour or so of wear. It may have something to do with the matte finish drying out my lips.

What I did like about the matte finish was that I didn't find it to be sticky on my lips when applied, which is always a plus!

I will definitely be using this lippie again but I'll always take a little more care when applying it and keep it with me for touch ups! Otherwise it's gone before you know it!

Tips: Exfoliate your lips the night before or at some stage before using this so that you don't get that dry and gluggy effect. And a lip pencil will always be worth it to make it last longer!

Bled out of lip line.

I loved the colour and pigmentation of this lip pencil however it did bleed out of my lip line after a couple of hours of wear. This could be remedied by the use of a lip liner however. Also my pencil snapped multiple times while using it which made it rather difficult to apply.
