Who's a candle girl then?

Article by BR's Merilyn

So when we were asked for this week's theme to nominate one of our favourite beauty products of all time...I mean crikey..where do we start? We are lucky enough to have hundreds of gorgeous products come across our desk every year as well as those we've used since time began. So to narrow down the choice (and to stop Natalie glaring at me because I was taking so long) I narrowed it down by using some key criteria.

  • It must be something I currently use
  • It must be something I would never be without
  • It must be something I would buy regardless of the price, and maybe even sacrifice something else to have it (partner? child? small dog? wine?) Kidding!
  • And it must be something I rave about to anyone and everyone

And here you have it!  The Glasshouse Fragrances Tahaa Vanilla Caramel Candle.

OK yes, I confess this one is a little out of the box (and of course all the other beauty crew have to stick ridgedly to the rules with their choices!) so i'm pulling rank here. And yes I get it's not technically a beauty product BUT I reckon it scrapes in on a few technicalities.

  • It meets all the above criteria (and) it makes my house smell amazing, and consequently it makes me feel amazing, and sooooooo good, whenever I have it burning..which is every day!

Someone wrote a review on this where they said "it's just like a caramel slice being pulled out of the oven." And oh my god is that the truth. It is simply devine, I was hooked from the get go. I bought my first one at Christmas time and I have never been without one since.

They cost around about $55.00 so not cheap or is it? To walk into my lounge and just feel a sense of peace and well being whenever it's burning, hey maybe it would be cheap at half the price.  It burns for about 60 hours to so you get a good innings out of it.

So there you have it my first pick of the week.  And of course you know where you are! The BR Crew are not only sharing their favourite things with you this week, we're going to give you the opportunity to go on a trial team and see what we're raving about for yourself.

So, what say you? Who's with me on this one?

Candles are awesome! I love a delicate fragrance floating through the rooms of my house. Added to the soft light they emit they are a lovely romantic item to own.

I pretty much never use candles. I really want to though, so I must invest in some, and then I can sit down, relax and inhale the gorgeous scents.ive never heard of this candle brand either.

A good scented candle is a must have! There is nothing like a long day and coming home to light one with a glass of wine in one hand matches in the other, as the aroma wafts around you, you slowly forget your stress and often where you are for a moment or two and just enjoy living! They are pleasing to the eye and well as pleasing to your nose, and by the sounds of this beautiful combination it is easy to see why it is a BR favorite! I have a couple of beautiful rainforest ones that allow me to relax in my spa and drift to somewhere exotic :)

First of all.. how EXCITING that we have an opportunity to review a candle! I've always been a candle person since I was young but in the sense (or scents....couldn't help myself :O) of loving the mood they set when you have candles burning and the lights off. That was until recently when one of my friends bought me an Ecoya Vanilla bean candle for my birthday and oh . my. gossssshhh WHYYYY didn't I jump on the delectable candle bandwagon sooner! I haven't tried any other brands yet because at $50 a pop I wouldn't want to get one that I knew wasn't amazing so an opportunity to trial this is awesome! Thanks BR Merilyn! Just on a side note I think the Ecoya candles count as a "beauty" product because you can actually rub the melted wax all over your body like moisturiser as it's made from soy. So not only can your house smell divine but also you!

I LOVE candles and am a big believer in burning eucalyptus candles to help relieve nasal congestion BUT as I am getting older I am finding some candle smells are triggering my headaches :( especially those with rose, jasmine or neroli oils.

I remember going to an event a few years ago co-sponsored by Ecoya. I walked right up to Geoff Ross (Chairman of Ecoya!) and asked why no one was getting a gorgeous candle and what a waste all the candles that were lit were because they would be chucked out. I may have been "slightly" tiddly on Vodka cocktails at the time - it was all quite hillarious. He commanded his Marketing guy to immediately organise a candle of my choice from any that were currently alight. Point is, a girl has got to do what a girl has got to do, in order to get a gorgeous, yummy candle of her own. Sooooo ... would love to try your vanilla carmel candle Merilyn. I know my bath would benefit by its glow. Could swap you a quarter-used Pear Ecoya Candle or offer you a Vodka cocktail ;)

Love candles my room always has them (mite be because I'm a fire bug) love the light ambiance they give or for some the smell but I'm never without them

Candles are my essential ingredient to take to my happy place. When people ask what you'd take to a deserted island, my answer always includes a bubblebath and a scented candle....there is nothing so totally decadent, so gorgeously indulgent as a beautiful candle. After a long day at work, or a busy day playing with my 4 kids, to lie in a bath with a glass of wine and a beautiful candle burning is absolute bliss!
