The Pop Up Braid Bar

With the imminent arrival of the new seasons of Vikings and Game of Thrones it's time to brace ourselves for an influx of Pinterest and YouTube tutorials.  These two shows have done what a few years ago would have seemed impossible.  They've brought back the braid.  And they've made braiding cool.

But a simple three ply braid isn't going to cut it.  We're talking intricate designs and an infinite number of strands to keep track of.  It's not for the even ever-so-slightly un-co person to attempt.  The image above links to one girl's attempts at recreating classic Game of Thrones hairstyles - short of having the arms of an octopus and eyes at the back of one's head, this looks impossible to do on on yourself!

So what's a girl to do when she wants to rock a complex braid do, but lacks the skills?  If said girl is London based she can pop into BR Natalie's most favourite place, Selfridges and head to the latest pop-up counter, The Braid Bar.

There's for ten quid (about $20) you can select your desired do from the Braid Menu and a braid technician will put her incredibly dextrous fingers to work, creating a work of art on your head.

BRHQ have fallen in love with the idea of The Braid Bar, which got us to thinking - if Braid Bars were to pop up in say, your local Farmers or maybe your favourite clothing outlet, would it tempt you to get braided?

Get chatting below, and you never know, a Braid Bar could be popping up near you in the future!

Can't see it for myself but I reckon my teenage daughters would flock to it. I guess the 90's are in again - how long before wrapped and beaded braids start turning up again?

That would be so cool, I love braids and how far they have come, that would be a great mother daughter concept or day out together, especially if there are braid bars around.

I would!! I have almost waist length hair and I'm useless and boring with it!!

I really like braids and they can look awesome when done well! I've practised a few of the more intricate ones but its always hard in your own hair and they never turn out neat enough to wear out. This is a cheaper option that getting your hair done in a salon and would be great for a more formal night out, I would definitely do this on occasion if the option were available!

I definitely love braids but I would only get one for a special event.

I would love to sneak in behind them & then go home & do it myself... I'm a braider.

I'd love some corn rows... definately into braiding!!

hell yes I would! Especially if it was only $20! I'd probably make it a weekly ritual.

Awesome idea and good if you want a good braided hairstyle for an event as it's probably cheaper than going to a hairdresser. But I wouldn't pay because I can already french braid my hair decently enough as it's been my to-go hairstyle for quite sometime since I have long hair braiding it is much faster than straightening or curling it. I can't make incredibly intricate braids but I can rock braids to a decent enough degree. Perks of having five sisters with long hair in my family plus years of taking care of children.

I love the idea of going somewhere to get a braid, or just my hair put in a style, for only $20 it would be great for even just a night out.

What an awesome idea! I would definitely use a braid bar - such a cool concept, popping in to get a hairstyle that is impossible to do on yourself unless you're an octopus! :)

Cute idea, bit pricey though :)

I know my girls would drag me to a pop up braid bar for me to pay for them to hair their hair styled into some intricate braid style. It would be awesome for girls in ball season too.

Love the look and have the long hair for it. But can't even do a French plait! Shame

I love a good braid, but my skills are terrrrrrrrible. I tried to french braid my 2yo's hair today, and it's wonky Mcwonk ville. Would I pay $20 to have someone braid my hair? Absolutely, but only if I was going out for dinner/to a party/or to a do of some sort.
